I like lupines and will gladly take any extra seeds from someone. I have an area perfect for them. I like the true blue ones best. Nice geranium, Bill. Nice combos Jo and Patti.
Rozanne and Astilbe Pumila.
Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day(sort of)Part 9
For yellow iris, try siberian iris 'Summer Revels'. See jpwiris.com.
Victor!!
How tall does your Rozanne get? Maybe mine isnt Rozanne because its quite a bit taller than Pumillas astilbe.
Good stuff this am everyone. I hope the lupins I have coming this spring do well and set a few seeds too. The astilbe and foxgloves will seed about too.
In keeping with the geranium trend here is an oldie but a goodie that is another spreading and seeding plant geranium 'New Hampshire Purple'. There is also a slightly smaller and pinker one in there as well but the name of it escapes me. Need more coffee.
Oh wow Jen that is a beauty. Is it a clivia or what? So bright and in your face. I like it.
Yes Clivia, next time I'm at Longwood I'll remember to take pics of all the labels too. First time there, who knew I wouldn't remember all the names? lol
Rozanne kind of rambles, Jo. Never really tall - 15 inches at most.
I do it with my photo manager software - ACDSee. Nice shot. Did you go to LW?
Nice mass, Pat.
joann i think victor was on his back and looking backwards in a contorted position attempting to get the "perfect" angle when he took that picture :)
I've done that quite often, Bill, but not for that one!
Yes mine rambles and flops.
I will never see the ground unless I have fallen or am dead.
Yes tell us how you insert the names. Do you use Picasa?
I think its possible to do it with that program.
Funny, Jo! Will you see it if you're dead??
Happy Birthday! God bless her.
Best flower pic of the day! She is very pretty, hope everyone had a great time.
Robindog Great picture.Congrats to your mother.
Victor: When I'm dead ,I will become the plant.
That's it JoAnn. I look at it the same way, will be helping another garden grow. Once a gardener always a gardener.
Robindog, congrats to you and your lovely 95 year old Mom. She is slightly older than mine! Mom's 95th is March 12th. We are lucky. Patti
Yes, you are both blessed to have your moms around that long.
hee hee "ACDSee"....that's funny....I'll have to see if I can do it with Picasa or my other photo manager
That's been my program from day one of digital!
RD that is the best flower of all time!!!
Picasa can do that Jen
Thanks Allison
What a beautiful flower, Robindog!!!
Congrats to her. She was a gardener?
Thanks, folks---no, Mom didn't garden---she just likes raking leaves, trimming shrubs, sweeping up the pesky acorns---I got my love of gardening from my Grandma Eva, who was my Dad's mother---she grew lots of stuff----still remember her cherry trees, & the jars of yellow & purple cherries on the cellar shelves. She always had deep maroon Sweet William growing by the back door----funny what you remember from childhood. Yes, Patti, we are so lucky to still have active Moms at that age-----I'm still tired from the party, but I brought several dinners over to my Cousin's wife today---she just got out of the hospital----guess I'll sleep tonight!
WOWSER you guys are gooooood! RD yours is the best pic of the bunch IMPO! Tonight ladies and gents I will just introduce one of the mysterious poppies that pop up in the poppy patch. This is one of my favs and like the weinerbrain that I am I did not collect seed and its gone. Did I perchance mention that I am a weinerbrain? (ARGH!)
pretty.. maybe it will self sow???
Noper onewish. That pic is from 2008 and it's gonedy. Joe the Poppy King is still kicking my butt about the lack of collecting seed from this mysterious beauty. Yes sigh I am a weinerbrain.
It looks like a garlic "skape"
here is a nice article about them... I plucked off some of the bublets at the top... and planted them all around.. should have some to share this year
http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2296/
They are really exotic looking. Can you eat them? Do you eat the bulblets or dig the bulbs for eating?
Michele & I both loved them at Kassia's ... she had some clumps here and there.. so cool looking.. the article says the whole thing is edible I am guessing you can use the bulblets like pearl onions... scallions.. and eat the bulb in the ground.. although I haven't tried it yet.. was waiting until I had more before I messed those up.. the idea is that the main plant will droop down once it's heavy enough and start new plants.. hence the walking in the name... with all my mulch I knew that wasn't going to happen... so I took care of it myself
thats really neat
if we get to meet up this year I will give you some.. I am hoping the bunch of babies I planted take off ... must have been around 30 of em and the deer didn't eat them... so I kinda figured maybe it would help keep them away from that spot
very pretty... too bad they didn't come back
how sad
JoAnn your groupings of DLs ,lilies and astilbe are really nice. Your path with DLs is going to be wonderful.
Nice article and very interesting plant onewish. Planting a few of those around the garden could help keep the critters away too I bet.
Janet what a nice bright bloom, too bad there was no return.
Some bright warm colors to fight off the cold and storms. Have my countdown going in my head. First the Olympics, turning the clocks and St. Pats Day then hopefully start clean up and mulching. And away we go to spring and green shoots and flowers. Yeah!
