Thanks everyone, maybe I'll just stick to the Dianthus I want for now, until I figure out which one I should get. : )
Can't wait to see your pics Ge. : )

Oh dear the Select Seed catalog arrived last night. Too many pretties. Lots of nice poppies and cosmos and larkspur and oh my. So far have not gone to the web site because then it will be over for sure. Still have lots of seeds from last year and really need to prepare a better place to sow annuals.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

meredith i have both and did not see a noticeable difference in flower color - both were first year in the grounders - can't give you a good idea about height yet

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Wow I got my select seeds back in December. There are a few in there tempting me.
Thanks wha, maybe it's a good idea to see others opinions before I decide. Maybe the Geraniums are better to buy in person, where I am indecisive.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I bought some Martha Washingtons from select seeds last year & the year before.. they were very nice

here is my order

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Oooh it's nice to see they send good plants! They had a bunch of stuff I was intereted in that were only available as plants! : )

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

did that small order 2 years ago... to see how they were... the shipping is fantastic!!!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Yes it looked like everything arrived in perfect shape. That's one of those nice surprises, when shipped plants are in better shape than the ones you bring home in the car! Thos turns knock something down every time I swear! Unless I buy enough that they are jammed in too tight to fall anywhere! Lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my biggest complaint would be it was hard to get them out of the boxes they were packed in.... and not damage the plants... had to rip real carefully .. and trust me .. from me that's saying a lot... I am picky about my plants.. and fed ex are a bunch of football players around here

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have before & after pics somewhere

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I looked again they were definitely in there! : ) How did the Torenia work out? I never have good luck with those.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

somewhere I have a photo of the whole container.. I will keep looking

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they worked out great... and for the first time.. my seeds did really well

here is pic of the ones I grew... in years past they did not bloom in time.. going to start them again in the next couple of days

I don't think I ever took any pictures of the ones I grew last year. I started them from seed and they did good. I do remember them being slow to get going. They were a mix of colors. I just felt like they never amounted to enough to get a good pic of them. I tryed them from HD in a hanging basket the year before and they would wilt by mid day. I had to water them twice a day. I think they like a rich soil which I have the complete opposite of.

I found my info I kept on growing them from seed in my journal. I think I could have started them this time if I were to do it again. I think I still have a package left of them. http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/239046/

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I did mine march 3rd last year... thought they were still very small compared to the ones I bought... I use polymer gels in all my containers.. it really does help

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow Meredith.. I was poking around in your journal.. nice job!!!... I am shocked you grew crocosmia from seed... how cool

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks! and one or two actually put a flower out before the first hard frost! That shocked me. I think I have a pic of it in my picasa album. : )

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very cool

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Yup, now lets hope at least one lives through winter. I am not counting on it... from what I've heard they aren't usually hardy in New England.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hopefully they will

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ooohh did you guys see this one??

That's a great color on that hibiscus, I want Lord Baltimore.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's a nice one too

I was bad yesterday---I'm blaming Victor & Bill----bought crapemyrtle Tonto & JM Purple Ghost. I've ordered many plants from Select Seeds, & have been pleased with them all----never a problem. I ordered African foxglove from them again this year---it's very tall, & kind of odd, but striking---also ordered some nicotiana---and poppy seeds. I'm having the same problem as Pat---finding a good location for annuals----well, I decided to use part of my veggie garden space---I am cutting way back on the veggies this year.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I just ordered some geraniums from geraniac@pacbell.net. I already grow many but this place has so many more than I have ever seen anywhere. I grow in the blue range already Johnson's Blue, Orion, Jolly Bee, Rozanne and Brookside. I am adding from Avant 'Sabina Blue' and from Geraniacea 'Blue Blood', 'Blue Sunrise', 'Baby Blue', 'Black Beauty'( a second one for the garden).

I noticed this on their site about Jolly Bee vs Rozanne.

Quoting:
We were only planning to sell G. 'Rozanne' but many customers asked for G. 'Jolly Bee'. A taxonomist can tell them apart, but at 5' we can't. Remember culture can alter plant size and flower color. Large mounding habit. Large blue lilac flower with pale centers, faintly mottled leaves; very long flowering from spring to frost.
I must say I have a really hard time telling several of the blues apart. All pretty.

I am adding some whites too

G. 'Coombland White'
G. clarkei 'Kashmir Green'
G. oxonianum 'Prestbury Blush'
G. pratense 'Galactic'

And one odd dark colored one for the Chocolate bed.

G. phaeum 'Chocolate Chip' The darkest G. phaeum of all; our own selection; flowers dark brown-maroon, verging on dark chocolate.

Now to scurry off and see 'Lord Baltimore'. I have a few hibicus that I adore, but not that one. My 2007 planted 'Plum Crazy' died, or has yet to bloom. I need to inspect the spot this spring. It was a tiny twig when I got it for 3.50. I didn't think it would make it. I added for this spring 'Cranberry Crush' This is a Sept 2 2009 picture of 'Old Yella'

Snowy day here, so it is a perfect day to look for plants.

Robindog, I alway blame Victor and Wha....that is an easy problem for all of us. Evil men. Nice choices. I haven't looked at Select Seeds, more trouble! Patti

Oh boy, you are really going to town. What is the site address for the geraniums? The link you gave is an email address. Probably better I can't go browse on a cold snowy day anyway. LOL.
I agree the only difference I can find between JB and Roz. is the size of the plants. JB does not get any where near as huge as Roz. At least not in my garden.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

pat that is the same place i ordered my gernaniums from - you can spend hours there - http://geraniaceae.com/bin/welcome.cgi

pricing is reasonable and plants very healthy - got a bunch there last year too.

received my first bluestone catalog yesterday - many ear flaps - now need to find where i can get seeds for the most of the plants

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Okay I remember that site, have it bookmarked. Your first Bluestone catalog? Oh boy. Have fun.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does Jolly bloom as long as Rozanne?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

As I recall JB started a little earlier than Roz. and stops a little earlier from frost. Could have been the location in the garden. JB was moved last season so I will see if anything changes this year.

I don't remember my Jolly Bee ever being without flowers last season. Even in the fall, when it's leaves turned red it still had some flowers on it.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, my Rozanne blooms longer and later in the season, but it may be in a better spot. Here is Rozanne on Nov 19th 2009. Talk about late!

I hate Bluestones printed catalog, it is way to confusing. I like their website far better. I haven't done an order with them yet. Good idea! Patti

Thanks for your thoughts on Geraniums Patti! I was also considering trying some white flowered ones. I want to plant some good ones under my newish Roses and most of the roses are orange pinks so I want a color that will look good with them. I think the only color I should stay away from would be the more fuchsia or magenta colored ones.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's what I mean! Can't believe anything can bloom longer.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Meredith79, Geranium sanguineum Album is an easy pure white that I have had for close to 30 years. It blooms in June and if I cut it back I get some more in late summer, but the blues are a joy as are any of them for that matter. Patti
