Group Seed Swap Discussion2

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

that is so cute Nannie.

(Zone 7a)

Nannie, if I interpret Terry's post correctly as follows then we may have one or two weeks before any noticeable changes on DG - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7513682 .

I already have a copy of the MG sticky index on my hard drive, but not the threads and posts referred to in there, so I'm going to try to save those. Anyone wanting a copy when I get done feel free to ask.

So - just in case and I hope it won't be necessary - now would be a good time to start copying and saving email and snail mail addresses of friends and any work you may have done like posts that took thought and research; diary/blogs; journals; articles; other?

I plan to hang in there with this site and see what happens and try to keep an open mind, but it won't hurt to be prepared.

Becky, am I forgetting anything? Anyone feel free to chime in here.
-----------

Nannie - very pretty little quilts...nice pampered pooch - spoiling pets is one of my favorite things to do :)

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

oh gracious. why do they always have to mess things up when they are going well!

my address is in the address exchange. but nanniepb is also my yahoo name.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Phyllis - Your quilt is adorable and that is such a great idea to make them for donations to babies and children in hospitals! You are a special earth angel.

Karen - I would love a copy of the sticky thread file when you get it all done. I don't even know where to begin to try to save information and photos on DG. I have contributed so much to DG in the way of photos, information, etc. I also started 3 sticky threads on DG. The MG sticky was the best because of you, Karen. :-)

What a disappointment to see this unexpected turn of events happen right out of the blue. I didn't see it coming and going down like this. Though, when Dave originally sold it, I feared something like this would eventually happen. I am hanging in here hoping that something can be worked out between Dave and IB to make me feel more confident about the future direction of DG. Time will tell. I am not interested in being on a website that gets flooded with advertisements. So am waiting to see what kind of integrity and intentions IB has for DG.

If some of you want my email address, just dmail me. :-) I would hate to lose contact with so many of you who are my cyber-friends. :-)

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

oh Becky...i'm too mean to be an angel.;) i'm getting to do something i like....that makes me greedy, eh? but thank you.

all my g'kids were/are really attached to a special blankie/quilt/pillowcase. i like that they find security in them.

the sun is shining. the sky is blue. and it is 6 degrees out!
the snow is above my boots. i had to tuck my pants into my socks to try to walk the dog.
i need to take pictures.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

OOOH! Please DO take some photos! I wanna see the snow! Sounds beautiful but ... very cold! :-)

My youngest son had a special blankie until he was 11 and it literally crumbled/fell apart. LOL!

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

without boots, its hard for me to get out! here's a few

Phyllis - I am sitting here giggling looking at your photos! How cool is all that snow!??? I know those living in it might not think so, but for a southerner who never sees such beautiful newly fallen snow ... it is a lovely sight!

Thanks for sharing those great shots! I can feel the clean, crisp air just looking at them! :-) And you be careful out and around there! :-) No falling!!! Don't do a becky stunt! LOL!

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Fresh clean snow. So pretty. So deceiving.
Sure have busted my rump in a lot of snow when I was a clumbsy kid,
now I'm a clumbsy old lady. ☺

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

i know. i busted my bottom a few sundays ago on the snow!

i was a sight out there today with my old walking stick. i was trying to walk in the ruts to not get my feet wet. leash in one hand because Moe thinks he has to go with me and camera in the other hand.

the problem is that with all the sun shining, its melting. i tried to show you that in the tire tracks. its supposed to be 9 degrees tonight...that will make a BIG mess out of the roads. it'll be 2 or 3 days at best before they have school I think. i should have gotten the shovel out because a broom is useless on my sidewalk.

look at this guy. he found a sunny place to lay. (theres my broken chair in the background.
hahaha from the road, no one can tell its broken)

That's is a good picture.

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

last one and then I am getting busy! enjoy your sunday, all.

this is what's under the stump. we had some trees cut down and they broke my bird feeder. i saved the bowl and stuck it on top of that old stump, then later on I added a few blue balls in the middle. being the lazy person that I am, when the temps started freexing I just turned the bowl over and left the balls too.

ok. done. bfn phyl

ps. YAY i finally figured out the 'hold' on Picasa! duh. i was dragging a pic down to that tray but kept loosing the pics.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

snowing here now, still... nice pics there, nannie.. wish ours would stop..

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Debra, no snow for us for the next few days. i hate to see this melt.

Becky...you said you liked petunias...I found seeds that I didnt mark what they are. they had small hard pods, shaped like a tiny rosebud and inside its got micro small seeds. some of them had lots of them. any clue?

it has to be wave petunias or cardinal climber. i hope its petunias.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Check your email Phyllis! :-)

glad I looked in tonite....had a rough week, so I came here for solace and distraction (thanks for all the great collages ;) ) and then this 'takeover' um stuff. well if Daves feeling creative and 'itching' to be that way we could have him in the furure do a MG site for us all?????????? We have broached the subject on other threads have we not?????. Hmmmmmm....and Becky I got YOUR number....LOL. After a funeral this week I feel truly WACK to think of any sort of DG 'demise' or 'lessening' it of its magic...which is only the result of LOVE, shared love of this Commommality. I bought this great, possibly the best, bumper sticker ever this week, it was: ''Tree-Hugging Dirt Worshiper''. Me to a Tee, lol.
ciao for now
:D

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Darren - {{{Hugs}}} So sorry to hear about your horrible week. I sent you a dmail. :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

So glad you checked in Darren. Was getting a little worried.

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Well, last week ended better than it started. thanks to Becky. =)

My neighbor lost another sister this weekend. two sisters in 3 months.

DirtWorshiper. there's another screen name!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Nannie your seeds sound exactly like petunias to me.

Hi Darren, so sorry for all your troubles.

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

thanks. i found a smaller bag with the same type pods so i'm sure it is too. i'm keeping the seeds separate because I had two kinds.

hey...I decided to make a spreadsheet last night listing all the seeds we just got in our swap, and for the MGS, i had 65 entries. and i am not finished yet! then another 8 or 9 that i wasnt sure of or were non-MGs. can you believe that? now to finish looking up pictures.

i wanted to ask a question about these:

I. Quamoclit (that could be a typo?) and ipomoea sloteri. where do they fit in?

i. tricolor - is that describing the color or is that a type?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Phyllis - In answer to your questions:

1) I. Quamoclit - Cypress vine.
2) I. sloteri - Cardinal Climber
3) I. tricolor - refers to the species. Tri-color cultivars are Flying Saucers, Blue Star, Heavenly Blue, etc ...

I hope this clears up the confusion. They are all Morning Glories. :-)

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

no real confusion. and wow...i didnt know cardinal climber was one! THANKS.

i'm going to town. i'm going to town. woooohooooo i get to be among civilization.
errrr wish me luck. roads are still bad

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

BE SAFE!!!! (Driving and walking!) ;-)

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

The Cypress vines are beautiful and I'm excited about the Cardinal Climber, very cool leaves.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

the white cypress i sent did really well for me and all the volunteers from the year before that i didnt get came back this year. i loved it next to my white moonvine.

the orange noah i sent also did well here. both of these do seed alot.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Marie - Nice idea about growing the Moonvine and white cypress vines together! I like that idea! :-)

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

and add some cardinal climber for that pop of color. i'm going to mix some again this year. or try to.

my dad is a big UT Vols fan...i think he'll get a kick out of the orange vines.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I like the idea of whites together too.. neat!

Pretoria, South Africa

Ronnie and Debra , thank so much for the lovely seeds you sent me through Becky. I was so upset when I realized I wouldn't have any seeds to share.
We've had the funniest weather ever. It is overcast as I'm writing, but not just that, also dark and cool. Our temperatures are a good 5deg C cooler on average, with lot of extremely overcast days. The poor plants are soo confused. I have only been able to harvest a few purpurea seeds. I will however let you know once or should I say "IF" I have anything good to share.

Have a great day,
Elsa

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

nanniepb. . those photos really reassured me that moving to Florida back in 1991 was the best idea I ever had!!! *BRRRRRRRR*

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I started my Hanafubuki in a cup already. That one sprouted open really fast. I did 2 seeds but the other one got lost in the seeds starting dirt somewhere. It'll come up when it's ready.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Just got back from the Orthopaedic doctor. :-( Since my foot didn't seem to be healing very quickly, I called and made an appointment last week, but the earliest they could get me in was today. Seems I DID fracture my right foot. =:-O

So now I am hobbling around in this over-sized boot walker! My foot didn't fit either the small adult or the medium adult. (The small actually looked like a child-sized boot.) So the doc decided I needed to go use the medium boot so my toes wouldn't be hanging over the edge of the small boot. LOL! I have have this "thing" on my foot now which is going to be a real pain in the rear! The bummer is that I can't drive with the boot on, so I am going to have to drive to work wearing my shoes and then switch over to the boot when I get there. (rolling eyes ...) At least it's not a cast! Thank Goodness! I would've been really upset then. The bone that I completely fractured was the one marked "12" in the photo. I used that photo from this link: http://www.drnelsonclinic.com/bones_of_foot.htm

Soooo ...

Needless to say, I am not amused.

Lord, girl. Glad it wasn't any worse. At least you are still moving.
I got baby MG up. The first one is just standing there. Should I fertilize it? Got some super Bloom.
Hang in there, girl.
Charleen

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

ouch!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I was going to post more and got interrupted by a phone call ...

The foot hurt a lot when it first happened, but now it's just has a dull ache if I stand the wrong way! LOL! I've kinda gotten used to limping after almost 4 weeks. (sigh)

Elsa - Interesting how Global Warming is affecting the planet. If that is what it actually is ... Sorry to hear that your summer has been cooler than usual. I would love to have at least a 5 degree difference in temps here in the summer. :-) Low 80's would be good! Even better ... 75 degree highs! LOL! I can dream, right?!!! LOL!

DIRTYGIRL - Amen! It's pretty to look at, but I don't think I would want to live in the snowy part of the country. Brrrr ... is right!!!

Nicole - I have actually had a MG seed germinate 6 months after planting it! LOL! I was shocked! Like ... why the heck did it take so long? We had some rain recently and now I am seeing more MG volunteer sprouts coming up and they are all I. nils! I am IMPRESSED! After all the freezing temps, I thought I wouldn't see any more volunteer I. nils. Apparently they need more than a week of freezing temps to kill those seeds. :-)

Charleen - I would wait until it gets a few "true" leaves before fertilizing it. Sometimes they do just sit there for a while. I guess they are pondering their next move. Sometimes that next move seems to take forever! LOL! But once they do, it will grow in leaps and bounds! It's like a new parent who wishes their baby would walk, but then are sorry once it does because they spend all their time chasing after it! ;-)

That is pretty good. I liked that.
Thanks

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Becky!!!!!!!! Dr's dont get in a hurry do they? well, I'm glad you finally went. it'll be worth the extra trouble for it to heal in time for spring, right?

Dirtygirl, I moved here from Ga....I ask myself why all the time! there are drooping, melting snowmen of all sizes and shapes still hanging on. our school are already cancelled for the rest of the week. so they'll have 6 days off. and more snow due saturday.

CHarleen, i am jealous. =) in a good way

hey...i saved a couple of 16 oz soda bottles. like the water bottle sizes. I was wondering why I couldnt start a few in the window? but, how long can they stay in that size container. I was also gonna ask if a 2 lb coffee can was big enough to plant some in? but, it will be may or june before we are frost free. what about a milk jug?

what do you think? i might be able to put a few pots behind my sewing machine but i'm not sure how well they'll do inside for so many months.

this is killing me not being able to plant any
