Daily Walks - 2

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

This is the last one for tonight. Also completes the walk I took on Jan. 27th.
Waiting for the cats to catch up. The dogs were already in the yard by the time they made it to the back gate.
Hope you enjoyed this installment of the walk, it's always different.
Have a great evening!

If you do another walk for the bird count this weekend, you'll have some fantastic entries!!

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Spirit loves the walks, you can see it in his face. He is so happy.
Loved the walk. Always very interesting.

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

SW, Your "yellow belly" is a type of flycatcher. Can't tell from the photo. If I had a nice spread, I'd put up nesting boxes everywhere. Especially for flycatchers and swallows because they eat tons of insects.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I was reading up on the Bird Count, and I can even participate here, although, I'm not very good at the shore birds, gulls, pidgeons, sandpipers, and once in a while a brown pelican.
We watched them fishing offshore yesterday just before the rain started. I got some blurry photos to check out. : - )
I'm glad you are enjoying the walks.
So many people are snowed in, right now.
My grandparents walked every day, I think it's a good thing to do. I love having my rocks, and dirt, all year long, but it's especially nice when it greens up.
Hey Joeswife, good to see you. The plant you admired is commonly known as wild tobacco. It is poisonous to us, but not to the hummers. I am very blessed that the hummers live near me, year round. Some folks don't have hummers at all! : - (
Living vicariously isn't a bad thing. : - )
More to come later.

Hey CatSmiling,
Been missing you. I know that they are probably Golden Finches, and I also know what a great job they do with catching gnats and flies. The seem to be finding their own places to nest in the "wild".
DH and I keep adding to the "wild", and trying to take out plants that just don't belong there (like salt cedar, and pepper trees), will make exceptions for the Strawberry tree/bush and the elderberries. : - ) You do notice that we leave the dead trees for the birds. They use those scags to perch on and the woodpeckers nest and store food in them. Eventually they go back into the ground. In the meantime they are fun to watch.
Got to go for now.

You sure do work that camera, Jules. We usually can't even remember to bring ours with us. I learn so much from your entries. Like that Wild Tobacco plant. We have a bunch of them, lined up near a fence. Suspect there was one that in turn seeded the rest. When you had the picture of the wild buckwheat I had an 'AHAA' moment as we get those all over and they really have strong roots. A bunch of them I have watered and trimmed, so they look right purdy and help fill in for free!

Enjoy Oceanside, although it is most enjoyable, for me, when I can leave the 180 degree summer days here.

I grew up my first 10 years in Oceanside, Ca.. the beach was my backyard... *sigh* I miss it. I also miss my hummers..

I forgot to say, yes poop is poop, but when we are talking bunny poop, my dogs think poop is a food group. Oh yea, they are gross

Goodness, Jules, have you looked at the size of this thread?

PC, what kind of boxes for the flycatchers? We have Phoebes, Phainopepla, and a couple of others. We have two bluebird boxes up, but they don't use them - just the water features. The wrens nested in a gourd last year.

Yes, KC. I need to start a new page on this thread. I am enjoying O'side, and will be posting them when I get home. Takes too long here. Too much demand on the internet, I guess. Photos aren't loading right, only seeing thumbnails instead of photos.
I'm heading home tomorrow, sigh. . .
But I get to come back in July to escape that 180 degree heat that quiltygirl was talking about.
Taking part in the Backyard Bird Count. I counted 8 brown pelicans today. Also a flock (took photo will count later) if sea gulls, and two pigeons.
The day before yesterday, I got to see a whale, okay two whales, Mom and babe from the balcony. I even got good photos. Will start new page and show you there, even though I only "walked" out to the balcony! LOL!
More soon!

And the last of the wild plants is this one. We had 3 of these, but bigger and older in front when we moved here and trimmed them to look like trees. Their fresh leaves come out in the winter and they lose them in summer. This one just shot up and is about 2 years old. I like it covering the chain link to the flood control channel. May trim the bottom branches, don't like to leave places for snake to lurk.
