Daily Walks - 2

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

This is the little hill behind/between the house I live in and the one my Mom lives in. Right before I came out here to the beach I blew out my knee so I planted the extra poppy seeds on this hill. Maybe Mom will see them. I just couldn't make that long climb up to the top of RHH again.
This is the one I plan on climbing today.

I did not plant that pepper tree. I would get rid of it if DH would let me. I do like the nice gentle path way up the hill and the rocks through here.

A view looking back at the chicken pen. Don't laugh, it's worked all too well since we put up the bird netting.
LOL!

One of the pretty little yellow bellies. : - )

I took this photo of the wild tobacco that has rooted itself into the granite rock. You can also see the back of Mom's place and the back of the Bee Barn, well at least some of it's roof.

A close up of where the trunk comes out of the rock. It's a wild tobacco plant. A good winter time food source for the wild hummers out here.

umm, Oh yeah, this is the top of the wild tobacco plant. You can see the yellow tubular flowers at the top of the plant. Just perfect for those hummer's strawlike sipper tongues.

Blackbeard Jr. and the feral Mama Cat have decided to accompany us up the hill.

Boy am I glad it's cloudy and cold. Most of the red ants are inside while a few patrol on the outside. Since I'm really allergic to these guys I'm not sticking around.

This is a dead wild tobacco tree/bush. The birds find it a handy perch and YS would be bummed it it wasn't there.

Jules.,,,,,,,..Love your walks, so relaxing, feel like I've been there with you and Spirit.

This is a close up of the green stuff on the ground. A piece of white quartz, and lots of bunny poop. LOL!

Glad you are enjoying the walk, Sylvia, it's raining and pouring here and heading your way!
Now how'd a walnut shell get up here?

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Jules...........dear one you even resort to photoing poop with the green stuff. You are too much.....;.; I love it!
Sylvia

A rock on the side of the hill. Notable because it has two different colored lichen growing on it.

Wait a minute, I admit to being easily amused, but the quartz is centered because I was taking a photo of that rock, the green stuff is just there, and you know me all too well. I just had to point out the bunny poop. Lots of people don't know what it looks like. Would it make you feel better if I called it "scat"? Poop by either name is still poop. LOL!
Here is a close up of the yellow lichen.

Now a close up of the light green lichen.

Spirit in motion. Got to love that grin. He's running for the fun of it. Sorry it's blurry, he moves fast!

Scat.......,......Now that is a much more dignifited word. However poop by any other name is still poop.

Birds aren't stupid, between Spirit racing around and those cats hanging around, they've gone to higher perches.

Scat is more dignified, and some people don't know what it is. (Sadly shaking head.)
The cats are wary of Spirit racing around. He sometimes forgets not to chase the cats when they are outside of the yard. He's still a growing pup, and he'll learn.

Daisy and Peanut are checking out Mom's house. You can see part of the bee barn behind her place.

Looking to the east you can see the storm clouds moving in.

Finally we have gotten to the boulders at the top of the little hill. I won't be climbing around on them with the rain clouds coming in so fast.

This rock is perpendicular (if you can be on a slope) to the ground. It's got an interesting lichen pattern on it. The hole in it was probably caused by the limb of a bush rubbing against it over a long period of time. It differs in appearance from the "pots" or grinding holes made by the NAI, because it's surface is so rough.
I'll have to show you some of my good photos of the Indian rocks. A walk for another day I'm afraid.

The boulders facing southwest on the top of the little hill.

This is the boulder field at the top that faces north. It's a work out to climb through there. So I'm skipping it for today.

Spirit in the shade of a rock. That is BB Jr. behind him.

BB Jr. and the feral Mama are staying close to that pepper tree.

I really like this rock covered with lichen. Or maybe I should say I like the way the lichen reminds me of a tree growing on the side of the rock. If you look at the horizontal crack as being the ground and everything beneath it being the roots anchoring the tree, and above the crack you can see one "main" trunk, with a broken branch to the left and at the top a bunch of branches cascading downwards like a willow tree.
No one ever accused me of not having an imagination either. LOL!
The texture of the wood at the base of the rock is interesting too.

Taken using the telephoto.
Isn't he pretty?

The cats are getting braver and the storm clouds are a building. I'm heading down.
That white blur is Spirit. I don't know if he set out to chase cats or just forgot how to use his brakes. He'll learn. : - |

OOps! Putting my cats before runaway dogs!
This is the "The cats are getting braver and the storm clouds are a building. I'm heading down." Photo.

This was sort of funny. Right before I took this photo, Spirit had bowled over BB Jr. and scared Mama Cat into the Pepper tree.
Well, BB Jr. didn't like that, and said, "I'm gonna get that boy!" Bad, Bad, BB Jr. took some skin from Spirit that day. BB Jr. is the baddest cat around. I've seen him face off some strange critters. He's unexpectedly kind to the ferals too. They hunt in a team of three. Anyway, Spirit got a swat with claws extended to his nose, and he is circling warily around BB Jr. in this photo. You notice he is giving BB Jr. lots of room? Jr. has been known to charge an adversary. He's bad.
Spirit learned a valuable lesson too. Don't mess with BB Jr. and the feral Mama when they are out hunting together.

The feral Mama Cat is keeping a wary eye out.

BB Jr. is so hissed off, he takes umbrage at poor old Daisy when she stumbles into the photo.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

The feral Mama Cat doesn't seem to mind Daisy. She's still keeping her eye on Spirit though.

Spirit running in circles (away from the cats you notice), and Daisy heading for home.
