Coffee Break #30 - Go Jets!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are not kidding Victor... I guess I am more old fashioned than my sister

And unfortunately, the behavior has changed with the clothes. Girls are not only doing crazy stuff at young ages, but are so much more aggressive now. I posted one time that a good DG friend who has all boys had to deal with a girl stalking her 12 year old son! Talking to their parents did nothing. She only stopped when she found someone else.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

OMG that's frightening

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Getting psyched for the games today? I'm rooting for Jets for the AFC and my man Brett for the NFC - gotta love a guy that enjoys the game so much and can still hold his own in the NFL at 40. More likely it will go the other way - both Colts and Saints are doing fantastic. Will probably watch the Colts and Jets at home until half time, and then head to the local sports pub for the second half and the late game.

I have six nieces (ages 30, 26, 26, 22, 15, and 11). Have been fortunate that all but one of them have dressed pretty normal - not too conservative and not too over the top. One went thru a really weird phase with the black clothing, tatoos, and piercings - she is now 26 and appears to have outgrown it. I will never admit to favorites, but Shhh...one of them just melts your heart (have you seen the pics I've posted of 11 year old Erica?) Terri

Yes, Terri - very psyched!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL.. I never outgrew the black clothes

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not into tattoos and piercings at all.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Come to think of it, I wear black clothes a lot too - I kid myself that they are slimming on me :-)

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

But no tatoos or piercings here ...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just went outside to dump some coffee grounds and stepped in a lot of deer crap. Grrrrr.

Better than dog poop...

What a subject for me here today. DS finally asked a girl out on a date. He's in the 8th grade and she's in the 9th. They met at the mall. It was the first time I ever let DS go to the mall to just "hang". I don't like that idea, but he was headed to a friend's house and the friend was going to the mall that night. His parents called me to ask if DS could tag along. It wasn't 'till later that I learned there wasn't going to be any adult there.

So, he met this girl. They exchanged facebook addresses. I'm so glad I have a rule about DS leaving his facebook info open to me. I adjust all the privacy settings to high. Usually he likes to post goofy cartoons and boy things like that. Anyway, I looked up this girl on her facebook page and it seems her parents have given her no limits. There are photos of her in skimpy swimsuits with lots of admiring comments from high school boys. She clearly loves the attention. One boy seems to have been her boyfriend up until Jan. 19th. He is 18 and a senior in HS. Well, what I mean to say is, it looks like this girl will go to any length to have all the boys like her. Sigh... my DS is still asking me to read to him at night.

I am not sure how to handle this, but we looked at her facebook page together, where we saw her post sweetheart notes to other boys (especially the 18 year old) as recent as yesterday. So, I know he's informed. I told him that I believe he is wise enough to handle his heart without my being overcontrolling, but that if his heart breaks, I hope he spends a little time on my shoulder. Other than that, he has limits on his whereabouts that are very strict by today's standards. Maybe she'll lose interest in him. What's really sad is that I see most girls his age behaving this way.

Jets game is underway - two sacks on Peyton already! YAY...

Sofonisba, hopefully you'll figure this out - sounds like you're going in the right direction.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - I'd be concerned, Harp. I would not let my freshman HS daughter go out with an 18 yr old guy. He's already an 'adult'. I would not be surprised if she has 'sexted' photos of herself too.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

harper you have a good relationship with you son - i think everything will be fine

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I am worried. I wouldn't be surprised if she did more than that. Oh, wait, do you mean to DS? Eeek! I'd have my daughter locked in a closet. Or we'd move to Siberia.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - not to him.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Cross posted. Thanks Bill. I think he has a very good foundation. I just have to remember that when the bumps in the road come.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the bumps are part of growing up and helps us learn

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Cross posted again. Yeah, Vic. She looks like the type who has had lots of one-on-one time with boys. Well, I get that also by reading her posts. Oy, yoy!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Way more dangerous roadblocks these days, though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Another problem with that - potential confrontation with other guys.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

True Bill!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Urgh. Cross posted again. Yes, Victor. That HS boy looks well, OLDER. DS doesn't get in fights, but plenty have challenged him to fight. Now throw girls in the mix and it could get ugly. I'm glad he's been taking jujutsu for the last 4 years. I love the teacher there he's all about defense and get away from the aggressor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

All that is great, Harp. It's great that you have such a nice, open relationship with him. It will probably get tougher the next few years, but I know you will do the right thing. You're a great mom.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Harper my sons are 30 and 32 and we still have bumps! The 30 year old is getting married in June and I still worry about him being happy. Keep that relationship just the way it sounds now and all will be fine. By boys told and still tell me just about everything and NO they aren't Momma's boys just gentlemen!! My daughter-in-law thanks me for being so close! Girls can be Trouble!! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm happy I have boys!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Me too Victor!! After my younger son got his heart broken I was real particular about who he was dating that's for sure. LOL

South Hamilton, MA

If she has been seeing a 18 yr old, she will probably lose interest in your son. He may be unhappy about it, but that will pass. I think kids of both genders are nervous about talking to others around their own age.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Thanks Victor. How kind of you to say. I hope you can meet him some day.

Ronnie, that's funny. I'm 41 and feel like the bumps are all over. One day at a time.

I think you're right irisMA

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Harper it sounds like your doing a great job, I wish you well in the coming years but....
I don't envy you one bit! I'm so thankful thats all over!! lol

I need some advice too......
With out getting into details, i've been accused of hacking by someone. This person said I somehow made a question mark pop up beside their avatar and when they clicked on the ? it said something mean. First of all.....what is an 'avatar'??
Quote: "- I was clearing my avatar statement--could not clear an exclamation mark--clicked on it, and this comment popped up next to my mail avatar"
What the heck is that?
How can I clear my name?
Who do I report this to??
Thank you in advance for any help.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

an avatar is the picture you can put on your name... I would report it to your provider ... and I would change your passwords

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Even though it wasn't my avatar that was messed with?(I don't have one because i didn't know you could. Glad I didn't now!) I have really good protection, just bought it in at the begining of Jan. and DS the PC geek said it's one of the best.
I am waiting for him to wake up so I can pick his brain on this matter he works nights, sleeps until 2pm. I couldn't wait...had to ask someone as it's been eating at me since yesterday. Thanks Allison. :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the first thing I would do is change your passwords... my email got hacked earlier this year... changing the password stopped the problem

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ok, thanks. it's kind of commical if you look at it from my side or my family and friends view....I type with 2, maybe 4 fingers most of the time!! I'm hardly an expert on the PC and I run to poor Josh for everything!!! He's about to start his day with "Mom and the PC' again and im sure he'll give me that look! ^_^

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh I am sure

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think you fit the profile for a vicious hacker, Celeste. And your avatar is a furry bunny. ^_^

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL, thanks Victor!!
