Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think Ryan is fat enough to have me inside HIM.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

well that might be true.

one fat one that is getting thinner is lily the bear - looks to be having cubs RIGHT NOW.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Pat, thanks for posting that link from the new owner. It does clear up some things.

Bill, I hope Verizon can straighten things out with DSL for you. Sounds like a real pain.

Ric, you're right, it was Bob Ross. That's an impressive piece of work for an 8-year-old.

Unfortunately you don't get to see much of the birth of that bear cub.

Yay for clean water in Haiti!

Hi. I went over to the memory garden from one of Victor's way earlier posts on the last thread and now apparently according to 'Skip to New Guy' I've read everything although I haven't which I SO don't like cuz instead of returning to where you were when you left, you end up at the end of the thread like rumplestilskin :( I hope everyone is ok. There were some major layoffs here in the last week. Some of my dear friends lost their jobs. I'm trying to spread the joy offline at this time. ps Luv you. pss there is still joy. We just sometimes need to look for it in different places. We have ice fog and the trees and shrubby things are beautiful all covered in ice crystals.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

got on today no problem so maybe they have figured it out.

sorry to hear about your friends there dnut

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Hope things get better soon for your friends, Cousin Nut. Oh, ice fog, cool! I love it! Take some pics so we can see!

Karen

Yes - very sorry, Nutty. We're still far from recovery.

Well I FINALLY got my DNA results and it's pretty surprising! Though it did not show a complete path that ends up in Europe (my grandfather was from Positano, near Naples), the result was kind of unexpected. The 'unique' feature which delayed the result was that I am in a group called M 20, in the L Haplogroup. Guess where this group is from? India!!

I have emailed them to ask why it does not continue to Europe. On the show, they traced most of the people to their most immediate place of origin outside of the US.

I'm already having fun with this, of course. I phoned my wife, who was at work, and told her I can explain the Kama Sutra moves...

heehee
neat

There must have been plenty of migration from the east into southern Europe. Perhaps those traced on the show had ancestors who were stick in the muds, just like those who didn't migrate to North & south America.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, quite the opposite. Many 'Europeans' went all the way to the Bering Strait before doing a u-turn and ending up all the way back in Europe.

Judging from my father and grandfather (this was the paternal line only), they got to India, refused to ask for directions, and just stayed.

Can't make this stuff up - comedian Andy Dick arrested for sexual abuse:

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That DNA stuff is interesting, Victor.

All I have to say about Andy Dick is, "Sicko!"

Started getting into the TV show Lost today through Netflix. Watched the first 5 episodes of season 1. I'm hooked now. Was hooked on the first episode, actually. Never really watched it when it was airing on TV. Still catching up on Dexter. Finished watching the first and second seasons and have watched the first 3 episodes of the third season so far. I don't know how I'm gonna watch the 4th season, as I don't get Showtime. It's not out on DVD yet.

Is Dexter a comedy?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor, I though you were a Dexter fan, or are you just messing with me?

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - I have never seen it. Bill is the big fan.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, okay. No, it's not a comedy. It's about a cop who is secretly a serial killer who only kills other killers who have somehow beaten the system. In other words, he takes out the trash when the system can't keep them off of the streets.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Okay - a vigilante cop.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yup, and of course he has trouble keeping activities secret, so it gets really interesting.

To change subjects entirely, I have said before that I am shocked how teen (and even younger) girls dress these days. I recently starting going to church again and I can't believe how they come to church dressed! And even worse, their moms are usually with them. Walking out of church last week, this girl was showing a tattoo on the top of her butt to her friend. Her mom was laughing!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

not like when we were kids... that's for sure!!!.. as brides maids we were not allowed to show a bare shoulder.. the dress always had to have some type of cover.. and then we could take it off at the reception

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - very different. We went from too conservative to too crazy.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, I'm shocked at that, too, Victor. What's the world coming to? In church? If I had kids, that would not be happening. Parents aren't willing to set boundaries anymore, or they just don't see anything wrong with what's going on with their kids today. Don't know which it is.

I can even say my own family shocked me when I went to my nieces sweet 16 party.. all the girls were dressed like street woman... my niece herself had something on that LadyGaGa would wear... had like a heart shaped top... balloon bottom that if she bent over everything would show... and my sister said to me when I remarked... "what is wrong with what she has on?"... I said back mom or dad would NEVER let us wear something like that at 21.. never mind 16... and my sister said my mother helped her pick it out... I just hung my head in shame.. I went up to my niece and told her I am kidnapping her and her brother and moving to a farm in Montana... she looked like she was going to cry thinking I was serious .. I told her I was joking and if she was my child.... and I repeated CHILD... she would not be wearing a dress like that or dancing the way she was.. as I walked out the door I asked my sister what is so sweet about this sweet 16????

South Hamilton, MA

oldest GD likes t-shirts & jeans--her cousin is in to layering, the youngest 2 are little girls of 8 & almost 6. 6 yr old doesn't like t-necks. There is something to be said for not dressing up, I guess. even though I would like to see eldest in something else. She will come to it, I guess. Obviously you can go too much the other way. In some ways I blame dolls like Barbie. Not her shape but the idea she must be high fashion so the kids don't have their dolls doing 'kid stuff'.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I do think it's the parents more than anything. My sister played with Barbie, yet my mom would not let her wear makeup until 16 or 17, and could not date until 16.

Both are true, Karen. I see moms trying to relive their youth by dressing like their teenage daughters! (I have a cousin who does.)

Wow - must have been shocking, Allison.
