thebestmissy - dang, you are covered up with cedar waxwings - and I haven't ever see the first one in person. My Ga book says they are known to winter here.

Hey, Burd_Fotos - does Elvis have any tail feathers?

adelbertcat - those sure are some nice looking ducks.

Well got the new camera today...not optimum photo conditions but got a just few. This will take a little learning on my part to get the hang of this one. The Fuji is very user friendly and easy to use. Hopefully things will improve as I learn what I am doing with this one!

The size of the file seem weird. They don't crop as nice so I will have to figure that out. This is the camera that has no written users guide. It is on a CD you load on to your computer. That is a downside for sure.....for me anyway not being real familiar with Canon's.

Anyway...female Cardinal.

Hi, nanny, glad you got your new camera. I'm still figuring out mine. I took a look at the EXIF data of your last shot, the female Cardinal, and have some suggestions.

Here's the data

Camera Make: Canon
Camera Model: Canon PowerShot SX20 IS
Image Date: 2010:01:26 02:40:28
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 91.2mm
CCD Width: 6.20mm
Exposure Time: 0.0031 s (1/320)
Aperture: f/5.7
ISO equiv: 160
White Balance: Auto
Metering Mode: Matrix

Suggestions.
Go to manual made and
1) Slow the shutter speed to 1/250 or maybe 1/200 (to let a little more light in)
2) Set the Aperture to 6.3 or maybe 7.1 (to increase the FOV)
3) Leave the ISO at 160 or maybe step up to 200. (to increase the sensitivity of the sensor)

I'm learning to use manual mode, I play around with those three settings and have been happy.

If my pictures get worse, I go back the Auto, snap the picture and then see what setting the camera used. And then play around with those.

I also read that you could download a manual for your SX20 IS from Canon, if you prefer that over a CD.

Just trying to help a friend.
