Garden Projects - 2010

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Patti how is it possible that you order seven jm's and i do not have ONE of them:) Are keeping track of what i order just to make me go and check these others out? This happened last year too - I noticed:) And did you intentionally misspell Coonara to make me work a little harder?

great list, have them all saved in my Patti list journal with pictures and descriptions - i came very close to ordering Diana's Gem this year - let me know if it really looks blue/green in the summer, with two viridis here already it was hard to go that was again.

Coonary rings a bell. I might have it.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

bbrookrd, That,s quite an order, if they all come at once you'll need a crew to git'er done.
ngam, I don't think Bambi likes yew, WOW, that could go both ways. LOL
Victor, I only wish mine looked like that, those holes in the La Dew photo are actually windows to the view.
wha, That hedge was actually part of the master plan, when I moved here I did a sketch of the property and planned certain things just so, it is one of the original ideas. I wish I could find that sketch, it was done on a 2X3' sheet of brown paper so I could show the finish size of what I proposed. The only change that jumps to mind is we substituted a holly hedge for hazelnut. Ric

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

LOL Ric. I will have to check into that.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Deer do like yew, unfortunately.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

:-(

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

ric if you go and look at the lists patti has posted on the three "what have you ordered" threads you will be AMAZED by what she and her hubby will be planting this year which was no different than last year. no rocks in the soil in Nantucket:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, unemployment would be at least 1/4% higher without Patti.

Thomaston, CT

Wow---nice vision for your gardens, Holly, Ric, & Patti. My problem is I CAN'T visualize what the beds will look like---I plant willy-nilly! My DS, who is a landscape architect, has the vision---but then it would be his garden, not mine! He has been in his home for 3 years now, but not much done in the way of plantings, because he's still working on the interior & has 3 little ones 4 & under that keep him very busy. The 4 year old will be the gardener---she has to know the names of every plant.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

All I can say is WOW!!! everybody.

South Hamilton, MA

Great for the 4 yr old. We have a yew on the north boundary of our property, a bit shared with neighbors. The deer walk along the line & chomp. It is a big one & I keep hoping that the deer will kill it & go elsewhere for brunch.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh I am much more of a find a plant you like and then find a place to put it. I have the areas all planned out but the gardens are a bit willy nilly, too. LOL
Oh how wonderful those Grandchildren must be.
I will be checking out those Maples I would like one for in front of the Holly Hedge out back. I want something that is low and twisty with cut feathery leaves.
Here is a close up of the opening in the hedge. That hedge is a bit hard to photo.
When you walk thru into the side yard the Veggie garden goes off to the right, straight ahead is the gate to the fenced dog yard and to the left is the side of the house. It give Ric a nice rectangle to work up his formal garden. HOLLY

lots of nice dissectums for that ric

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Been there, walked thru that hedge I have to say it's very cool!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha the only reason I get different ones is that you bought all the others before I got my order in. Thanks for the spell check. I will fix my files.

ngram, These are little kids, so the hole digging will be easy.

Victor, I think you are right about unemployment. We try real hard to give our money to small independent stores and of course nurseries. We are able to add to our plant money by not employing any house help or yard workers, except to mow the yard and help spread the mulch in the spring. That is a huge weekly savings. I have had my hair cut once during the last year by a pro and I have almost nothing that goes to the dry cleaners, so I figure that money all goes in my plant money pile too. I haven't gone to eating beans and rice, but I could for more spring bulbs, if need be. Not sure DH would go along with that.

Robindog, I use to plant your way too, but I have been slowly moving things over the years to more compatible neighborhoods. But nothing is as nice as a real cottage garden done with love. I'll bet yours is just that and more. DS would most likely hate my garden too, as it is a tad too full of too many things.....Too too much. But we love it. It is cool about your GD loving plants. I think she is old enough to help you weed!

Off to cause more havoc to my check book and to help the economy with an order to Brent and Becky. But it is a small one for galtonia, lilies, and crocosmia....so far. Patti

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Wow Patti That sounds like a beautiful vision! I can't wait to s ee the end result.... all your beds are so wonderful, I can only imagine you get even better as you go!! : )
And Lol about eating rice and beans in sacrifice for more bulbs... I've been considering that! Ha ha No seriously, does someone have a good recipe? Put it in the What's for dinner thread if you do!! : )

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have a great rice and beans recipe, I'll get it a little later, going to make popcorn for the movie the kids are watching. No school so staying up late.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the sazon recipe - I ran out too!
Good luck with jury duty JoAnn. I did it last April, thought I might get out of it but was the second to last person chosen. Grand jury. I actually enjoyed it, met some good people. Learned some stuff.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It just rattles me to find a new building ,once I know the route I should be OK.Hope I can find a place to park.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

The garage is right there, maybe $7 to park. A cheaper lot a couple blocks away, but this time of year the garage is warmer and drier. I think if you drive past the court house on your left, then turn left at the light, the garage is right there. Might be called the civic center parking garage. The worst part was waiting in line to get in.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks I'll take my Cane, hope they dont think its a weapon.I have a bag with snacks and insulin in case.
I just wish my stomach would calm down.
I almost got a doctors excuse but thought I would gample my number wouldnt come up,I only had 2 weeks to get an apointment and doubted I would get the papers in on time..
This is why I dont play the lottery.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Maybe you willbecalled for the Elliott Spitzer trial!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks so much Flowerjen I am going to try that recipe this weekend. I plan to do a pulled pork and for somereason rice and beans sounds like a good side to try with it. : )

Victor, could I replace the cooking wine with the red wine vinegar? It would save me a trip to the market if so. : )

Good luck Ge, I hope you don't get picked, since you don't want to be!
Not much time to be on dg today. I will try and come back in a little bit to look at the album!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Meredith - that's the exact amount we use. We don't do peppers, though.

You want to be a Juror? I have been signed up for months but have not got one yet. I did my email and I have not even got 1 spam. Saw the ad in Better Homes and Garden this summer. I have a friend in Utah, he is disabled and signed up under his wifes SS# and name. He stays home does them and they get paid!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am finally home.I threw myself on their mercy on the questionaire and claimed disability, arthritis, balance problems,Memory problems, cataracts.
It was enough, they cut me loose and said be back in 8 years. I doubt I will be in better shape by then but who knows.
It was a civil case, someone sueing a contractor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
