Joy, this is dog heaven! Just look at Spirit, who talked Peanut into playing with him. Daisy is really slowing down a lot.
I don't know about you, but I count 7 paws for sure off the ground. Spirit embodies, Joy of the moment in this photo. : - )

Back to the spot where the creek overflowed the farm road, but on the other side of the creek.

Way down the road I was able to use the wonky telephoto to capture a photo of this mourning dove. Spirit scared it away. I think it was just enjoying the sunshine.

A piece of white quartz that the river running down the farm road uncovered.

Boy am I glad we piled up a deep layer of mulch under those pots. We didn't loose any, but you can see it was close.

Dramatic light, through the clouds, over the trees.

Too soon to speak of that dear Carolyn, and I am enjoying your company on this walk. Can't sleep tonight? : - (
I learned something cool about airports on my trip to TX, when Dad died. You show up carrying your funny pillow that you have to sit on, and a cane and a lot of one dollar bills. The staff will plonk you into a wheelchair or people mover and take you to your destination lickedy split. I always tip the people helping me out.
The worst part is going through the metal detector. They won't let you use your own cane, (they give you a wooden one as a loaner) and having to take off your shoes when you can't balance is fun too, but once you get through there, you only have to worry about slowing other people down. Usually they have someone waiting to assist you on the other side. Really nice folks.
A blackbird. We are still debating what kind.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Another blackbird showing some color on his wing. We aren't sure if they are bi-color or tri-color redwing blackbirds. Spirit is too energetic, I will have to leave him at home to get a good photo, he scares them. Either they fly away, or pretend they are part of the tree.

Spirit thinks splashing around in the flowing creek up by the overflow is a lot of fun.

Mom, I don't want to come out yet! : - ( Says Spirit.

Part of the overflow, but from the other side of the creek from yesterday. Peanut is investigating a critter hole and Spirit is headed upstream.

Well at least he smiling at you while he is enjoying the cool water!! The clouds are awesome in above picture's , Made me think of peace and floating on the clould's and the above and the below . May seem strange but we all think differently like to me grasp it and hold it and have the peace it give's lol , you may be given me a peaceful nigt of sleep ,Thank's

Looking downstream, if the clouds weren't in the way, you could see Mt. San Jacinto.

edited because I left off part of the name of the Mountain. Ooops.

Carolyn,
Spirit was told to get out of the water, and here is why.
This photo was taken at the farm pond. You can't see him well, he's behind the middle white rock. To the right side of the photo.
Most of the tule reeds had died, and have created a mat of vegetation, which is difficult to move through.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

He just turned his head and was thinking of trying to go back the direction he'd just come, but with some calm encouragement, he came to me. This photo will give you a better idea of what he was dealing with.

Once Spirit gained solid footing, he wasn't waiting for Mom to take photos, and he really is a photo hound. He likes to have his photo taken. Silly dog. : - )
Now he knows when Mom says, "No don't go in there!", he probably shouldn't.

Another great view of our little mtn. range. Totally different when it's green and the sun is shining. In a few weeks we'll get to see all the different wildflowers growing on the slopes. : - )

Wow! I wasn't expecting this one. You can see the red on the wing! The clarity! Wow!

This one looks like it has a yellow band. Two different birds, BTW.

This is that hummer that hangs out at the farm pond. DH says he is a black chinned. I couldn't tell especially from this photo. I really like the imagery.
This tiny little bird is facing the bad weather, how strong he appears. A little warrior, the rain doesn't scare him nor the ominous looking clouds to the north of us. How brave of him. He returns again and again to this dead branch to protect his kingdom. LOL! : - )

A new Drainage to the creek from the road uncovered some rocks.

Look at them all, used telephoto to get you a closer view.

This tree is full of blackbirds, they started moving when the sun started shining again. I'm telling you they were taunting me. : - )

This is the trunk growing out of the side of the creek, of the LP Oak.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf

This is the whole LP Oak as seen looking west. She doesn't have many branches half way up her trunk because of the heavy brush that had been growing around her. A lot of it was washed away in the flood. Yea!

All kinds of colorful rocks in this new drainage channel to the creek.

The water level has really dropped, as you can see for yourself. It was really pleasant.

It's easy to see the new channel the creek made flowing down the road.

I like the ripples in the black sand. Told DH he should get out his pan and see if he could find some gold. LOL!
They did prospect for gold out here on the farm in the 1880's. I guess it's possible. : - )

Oh, look you can see raindrops too!
I'm done for tonight. Please feel free to make any comment you'd like, but since this is getting really long, I want to start a new page for our dial up friends, tomorrow and continue today's walk. So much more to share with you all. Really it takes longer to tell you about it than it does to actually do it. LOL!
It's good, it's helping my memory stay sharp.

Jules, great pics! You have such great views there, on such a large area...no wonder you were pooped!LOL We have a word here, in Romania saying about a large yard where the dog gets tired when running to the gate!LOL

You can almost hear the Splats of the raindrops by looking at the photo. Beautiful pic.
Spirit is getting to be just a magnificent Dog. Love the profile of him. The hummingbird is guarding his kingdom .
Sometimes I have re-wings at my feeders. Late summer, mostly and there is an occasional yellow wing in there too.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Adina, and rrm, I love sharing the photos I take of where I live. I'm not sure how much land we currently pay taxes on. We have to give some more of it to the city/county for road widening. It's over 40 acres though. Good thing DH picked the right Grandparents, eh. LOL!
This is the last post for this page of the thread. I started a new one, so my dial up friends can keep up. You can find the continuation of yesterday's walk, here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1071418/
Don't know if I'll be able to do much walking today, because I have a lot of clean up to do. If I can though I will walk to the top of RHH, just to show you the view. LOL!
I wish I'd gotten more than just a silhuette of this guy. I can't tell what kind of bird he is. Can you?
Now, I'm off to finish the walk.

Love the picture of the dogs at full run in the field...you are right pure joy!!

The red-winged blackbirds do have red and yellow on the band. Here is on in birdfiles. http://davesgarden.com/guides/birdfiles/showimage/2539/ I have seen some around here but they are few and far in between.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Yep, very pretty. We get a few here too.
