That's great Dawn. Enjoy them, I just didn't have the right spot for them.
So. Calif. Spring RU 2010 - PLANTS
I am hoping they will be fine, where they are, they are on the west side with chain link behind it, but there is a pine tree that shelters it some times in the day. The soil is a little heavy there, so I have to watch it.
Randy you never said anything about the repellent thing so I don't know if you read it and saw the name of the book that you asked me about.
Yes I did notice that Dawn. I'll have to go to Barnes and Noble and try to find it have them order it for me. Thanks!
K.
Oh yes, the Milorganite fertilizer is pretty darn good for repelling rabbits too as my friend here told me. Little nursery owner's secret.
Okay, I'm at a loss and can't find a tag. I do remember being told to plant these in the ground. BTW, they are starting to bloom, but I don't know what they are or where to plant them. I'm talking specifically about the plant in the plastic bag on the table.
Does anyone recognize it?
Please let me know, or it's gonna be a guess and by golly. : - )
I probably will have more questions as I get to everything, and get them planted.
Thanks! : - )

Alstromeria from Donna :o)
Jules,I got one from Donna earlier this year and it is doing fantastic, almost ready to bloom.
Louise how tall are your flower spikes?
Thanks Marie, Now I remember it was Donna.
Care and feeding? Sun or shade? Damp or dry? Ack!
My flower spikes are about 3-4 inches right now. I think.
Thanks for the name. I'll see if I can find it in plant files.
Dang, right after I turn on some water!
Where did our rain go!
WIB!
SW
Boy, am I really confused now. I was just in the plant files, and they've changed the format, so you can't type in the name of a plant, only select a category.
What category would I find Alstromeria, in? Go look yourself and tell me it's not confusing for ignoramuses like me with bad memories.
It weren't broke before, so why'd they mess with it?
Thanks for letting me vent and for the help.
I think I'll go take another photo of it. Then you can see the flowers budding out. : - )
WIB!
SW
Jules, yes it is from me and it is an Alstromeria, pink/white. It takes sun and regular watering. When the spike is done blooming, you need to gently tug the stem out, don't cut it off. This encourages more flowers.
Sorry I've been MIA this week, but it's been a crazy busy week and haven't been on DG hardly at all. I will get back here to post some pics and do some thanking to all.
Had a WONDERFUL time for sure,
Donna
Probably the same as Jules, Marie. I have it in the front with my roses on the west side and it gets filtered sun from the birch tree. It's doing great, thanks Donna!
I just remembered the name of the little Linaria that I shared with a few people. It has little pointy leaves and was about 2-3" tall. It is called...
Linaria 'Canon J. Went' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/822/
Donna,
Did you by chance leave a linaria for me? I found one on a picnic table with a couple of other plants that it looked like someone was going to take home, but they were left behind. One had a label saying it was a Linaria. Will send photo of the group of plants, maybe I can find out who they were meant for.
Still trying to find the owner of a nice Black not Brown zippered sweater. Anyone missing it?
Donna, I'm very glad you are back from being AWOL. I played hooky myself one day this week and went with DH to work. Will post new thread on playing hooky. LOL!
Sherry, my roses are blooming profusely right now. They are also trying to put new suckers up. I guess I need to find my clippers and take care of it. Have you seen any hummers bathing in a rose yet? No wait that was KC! I saw mine in a mass of 4 O'clocks.
Good news everyone! About 10 years ago Mom and my YS collected those big Lupine seeds from the plants along side the road and planted them all along the other side of the creek along the driveway. Yesterday, I saw them blooming for the first time ever.
Mom was so thrilled that she said, that she couldn't wait to walk (yes walk) over to see them. This is good news. Since mostly she has been staying inside and sleeping or reading. She doesn't even garden anymore. : - (
It made her really happy, and believe me, I haven't seen her happy in a long time. Not since she had the stroke and broke those two bones above her ankle. So it's really good to see her happy and excited about something. : - )
Dang it, those bananas you all saw at the RU are ripe now. I had to cut them down yesterday before they snapped off under their own weight and fell into the pool. If anyone wants some and lives close enough to pick some up, please let me know. I know now that I can freeze the extra's, I was going to make banana bread for the RU, but the freezer melt down we had ruined those bananas. Rats! Don't forget I have two more bunches of bananas already setting fruit too. Thank goodness they didn't all become ripe at once! I'd have to set up a stand on the street to sell them. LOL!
We've also had a snow storm of sorts. All of those lovely Honey Locust trees have started dropping their blossoms and covering the ground in white, then the wind blows them up against stuff and they look like snow drifts. The only bad part is if you are walking around barefoot (that would be me) and they stick to the bottom of your feet. LOL!

I don't know what this plant is either, even though it had a tag. It was found with the two zebra plants I was giving away, and I'm not sure how to care for it.
Any advice on care/feeding/sun or shade, dry or wet would be helpful. I hope to get this group of plants back to who ever wanted them. No one claims them, then I'll give 'em a good home.
I have one more plant to ask about without a label, after this one.
Thanks again for the help.
WIB!
SW
Okay, this is it for now, although I just remembered a tree too. Later for the tree unless you know what I am talking about. It was a tall tree sapling in a pot.
Anyway, this sweetie is one that someone specifically gave to me, and I promptly forgot what it was. Duh moment. Or maybe there was so much going on, and I got distracted. Nah, it was a Duh moment.
Same thing, care and feeding info and a name would be nice. Fred is already taken along with Larry Jr. (LOL) Sorry, I couldn't resist. (Snicker)
You all have a wonderful sun filled weekend. Don't forget the sunscreen and a hat while out in the garden.
Thanks for helping me to plug these holes in my memory! : - )
You all are the greatest!

Jules,
The 2 green looking plants were mine and they were extras for anyone who wanted them. The small one is a Linaria 'Canon J. Went' and the larger pot is a mum. I used to belong to the Mum society and acquired many unusual plants. I can't read the tag, so maybe you can look it up to see what she looks like. They both are sun plants. The linaria should bloom this year and the mum will bloom in the fall.
Donna
Well then, I'm keeping 'em. Thank you Donna. : - )
I'll nurse those poor little Zebra's back to health and see about finding them new homes.
I found the owner of the sweater, so all is good except making arrangements to get Donna back her favorite Salad Bowl and Tongs. : - )
Do you want some bananas? LOL!
Maybe we could plan a get together next weekend or something, Donna. I am one of those people who can't rest til the overdue library book is turned in and the fine paid. Same way almost about "things left behind, by accident".
Happens every time my EB#2 visits with his family. After they leave, it takes us about two weeks to find everything that was "left behind, by accident". Enough to make you want to set up a box in the front hall for lost and found stuff. LOL!
Okay, I think we're good on the plants for now. Nice gloomy day for getting them planted.
Thanks again, Donna for helping with the plant info, and everything else too! : - )
WIB,

This thread is so long our dial-up friends will grow beards before it loads. I started a new conversation thread here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1093682/
Leonotis leonurus aka Lions Tail
It's an evergreen shrub, grows to about 8'
Pretty plant Jules!!
I will have to try that again.
Thanks JD. Long time, no hear. Hope you are well. Thank you very much for the plant ID, that's what Rodicap said too. I really like it, and sure wish I could remember who gave it to me. I'd like to start some more. I guess I need to do some homework. : - )
It sure seems happy, and was a welcome gift at the RU. Now if only I can remember who gifted it to me?
Thanks!
WIB!
SW
Do you think it could have been Donna? I know I remember her saying that she had left some plants on the table for you and that may have been one of them. I could be wrong.
Donna gave me some Leonotis before, but it did not make it. Probably her.
Hey Jules and everyone,
Sorry it wasn't me who gifted that beautiful plant this time.
Dawn, I've wanted to tell you that the Malva you gave me is doing wonderful and blooming it's head off. It's about the only plant that is living in my gardens these days. lol
Miss you all,
Donna
I find that hard to believe Donna, is because of the gloom this year and the cool temps? I am so glad. You know that darn thing will spread and pop up all over, it can be tall or short, or a hedge, it seems. I like it's versatility and it is not a nuisance. Not like a weed though it does self sow, it is easy to keep in boundaries. It continues to bloom and bloom, as fall comes nearer. Yeah! I wanted to ask but I never looked up to see who all I gave them to.
What is that stuff DP brought that was a grass? I can't remember, though I know it was a common one. I am having problems with it. all of them have like one blade and never took off, nor died?
Thanks Donna, now we know it wasn't you!
DP brought some Agapanthus, regular sized and a dwarf variety called Peter Pan. My Peter Pan is in the ground with some afternoon shade, but the regular sized one bit the dust. I just procrastinate tooooo long before planting. I still have Snow in Summer cuttings (LIVING, BTW) in the Target bag they came in. Now that is one hardy plant. The Rudbeckia is in a mixed container and blooming well, the Sticks of Fire is getting larger, the Rose Campion is holding it's own, in anther mixed pot, but needs to be moved as it is 'getting lost' amongst the Mandevilla and 'something else'. That something else I started from seed in the house with veggies and some flower seeds and I cant's figure out what it is. It is very happy in it's new big pot with the Mandevilla and has lots of ferny leaves, but no flowers. Looking at the seed packets that are open, it may be Aster or Cosmos. Wish the seed packets showed what the whole plant and the leaves are supposed to look like, not just the flower or veggie. The Malva was doing just fine and giving me some purple flowers, until that weird thunderstorm with heavy huge raindrops. That, my lavender from seed and the chocolate mint bit the dust (but the mint is coming back) and a couple other small and large pots had wounded plants. Too much rain? Too much too fast? Out of season? Who knows?
The Malva should come back too if you left it there. If not the sees that fell will grow by the fall, I predict.
Maybe it was the sticks of fire. It was like a tuft of dry grass with roots that he gave out. It was not the Agapanthus, I still have them. A few of the bulbs never sprouted but I dug them up and they still look fine, so I don't know, maybe next year. The others are alive.
The stuff DP brought is surviving, I do have a couple of mystery plants and some that up and died while I was at the beach. You really need to water them.
Hey! What rain storm, QG? Did I miss another one? : - (
My agapanthas aren't blooming unless they are in the direct sun this year. It's so weird? The bulbs are fine, and they formed the leaves when they should have in April. I just don't get it.
I'll take photos of my mystery plants so we can figure out what they are. The two I am wondering the most about are trees, and the third one has the white, latex like sap. They are all alive and well but I forgot their names. (Duh, moment.)
Too late tonight, but tomorrow.
QG, I may be able to share some regular agapantha with you. They haven't spread as much as I would have liked, but they do grow rapidly and spread once established. Still nursing my Peter Pan's along. : - )
Got to go for now!
WIB!
SW
The sticks of fire are succulents not grassy, so no match there.
SW, you did not miss a storm, lol, I was referring to the one in July. You got some cloud shots and the smoke from the Sage fire, remember?
QG, do you honestly expect me to remember the rainstorm I napped through? LOL! Okay, I'll quit teasing you. I do remember the Sage fire. I remember hoping it'd rain some more because I wanted to try for a lightning photo. Not this time. : - (
In answer to the big what the heck is going on with our weather question? I don't have an answer, but my wisteria is blooming for the fourth time this year so far. : - )
I'm kinda glad it's not too hot, because I'm still planting things in the ground. Next for the mulch.
Are we still going to carpool to weegy's for the iris separating and transplanting? LMK, okay?

SW
Singing Wolf Wave Petunia 2/2 cuttings from Globe Willow/Mulberry Tree if it lives./
Dillan’s nana Lambs Ear
Quilty Mulberry Tree/MM Malva
Donna MMMalva
Cayte /Calendulas& orange things/MM Malva, willow cutting
These are the things I brought to people, and plus 2 little baby tiny trees that were 3 inches high. I forgot the name, but it is a flowering tree, Catlapa or chitalpa, one of the two. I think I gave them to quilty, but not sure.
Chilopsis linearis, that was the two babies I grew from seed.
I'll take photos of the last two that I'm unsure of. Sadly the snails really liked the petunia's and they didn't make it, Hellnzn, but the Globe willow is still alive, I just don't know which one it is. I think it's the one some DG'ers potted up for me during the RU. : - )
I'll post photos.
Thanks for helping me out here, hellnzn.

I'm glad yours is alive. My parent died suddenly. I think it did not like being in a big tire.
SW - Yep, we can still carpool, providing the date is ok. Wow, that was a lot of thunder and lightning that day to sleep through.
I plan on calling you to see if today (I know, last minute) is OK to head over. I'll bring the "kids" (big guys) with me to see your place, along with your red bouquet and who knows, maybe something brown too.
