And, it is rice and cooked like rice? Or just read package instructions?
So. Calif. Spring RU 2010 - FOOD
No...lol....capsule form...no cooking involved. I believe it's actuall Chinese red yeast rice extract....
How does a pot of chili sound with some cornbread????
Sounds yummy to me!!
Red yeast rice: I'll check into it! Thanks!
With turkey instead of beef...so ok, Kathleen, I'll be bringing chili and cornbread.
Got it, Louise!
Costco carries the capsules - cheaper.
Thanks, I'll check there next time, don't go there often....
I'm glad to hear about the Chinese red yeast rice. I've been on a statin for a couple of years now. It's better than clogged coronary arteries, but I'd love to not be on the drugs.
Last I heard, statins are the highest money-making drugs of all time...is it any wonder they're prescribed to nearly everyone I know? Need it be said that they also can have some BAD side affects?
As to the food portion of this food thread.....Kathleen, please put me down for coffee beans in addition to biscuits.
Coffee!....*tongue hanging out of mouth*
Another one joins the coffee hounds. LOL
How about if everyone brings their own mug?
You guys make me wish I liked coffee :o)
Is someone already bringing soda? I can bring some for all of us soda drinkers...
karen
Please do! I'm a soda drinker, but I know a lot of folks prefer coffee and tea. I have a 35 cup coffee pot, and a dedicated hot water pot for those who'd rather have tea or hot chocolate. Just don't ask me to make the coffee.

I might be bringing two guests to introduce them to DG. They are really good cooks!
YeePee skippy We so love good cooks!
Ditto what Sylvia said!

Jules You are way COOL!
The kids tell me, "I rock". I stumble and fall too. : - )
I was given a Marlboro Man Cookbook, and it has all kinds of chuck wagon recipes. Now that book is way cool! I'm drooling reading some of the recipes.

I Love cookbooks!!! I read them just like a regular book.
I'll be sure to have it on hand for you, you'll get a real kick out of it.
WIB,
SW
I look forward to it along with a long walk
We still have a few people that haven't said what they're bringing to the RU. Did I miss anyone?
BengalPhoto is bringing Fudge, and we hope that will entice a RoadRunner to come by for a visit.
I promised to help him, and we'll make enough for him too. Not to mention some for the rest of us to share. LOL!
He loves chocolate as much as I do!
Good job KC, and thanks for helping with this.
No problem. Frogs hasn't checked in, but she will, I'm sure.
I'm salivating already!

I am needing to look at my recipe books, to figure out something that can travel for 2 1/2 hours well. I brought my jello salad, with cream cheese topping, like a cheese cake, one year and it got a little runny by the time we ate, but it was a hot year and a hot time that we did it that year. I may make that again, but am still weighing it out.
What do you need? Meat stuff or main dish type things? Salads, Deserts, side dish?????(&%^%
How about a cake or cookies? Something solid would be easy for you to transport and we can always use another dessert! LOL
How about some homemade Choc. Chip cookies????? Or Lemon Bars or something sweet...lol
Can you tell I'm cravy something sweet right now? lol
Whatever you decide is fine, although I got to warn you, that Kanita makes the best Lemon Bars, I've ever tasted. Has anyone heard from her?
I'm always into sweet stuff. I'm a chocolateholic, I admit it!
SoCal, are we skipping anything? I know you'll let me know if I forget something. Okay, we are doing pretty good, I think.
You all make it so easy, and it's appreciated. : - )

Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.
Jules, your doing great. :-)
We do need to have name tags, have someone bring some and be in charge of making sure everyone wears them. lol
We usually have everyone bring their own drinks and a chair. Let us know if we should bring a chair too this time.
Time is getting closer and I hope everyone that has been lurking, will start announcing if they are coming. There are lots of new people in the area and I sure wish they would come. They don't know what they are missing, as this is a great bunch of people and they will feel very welcomed.
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. :-))))
Donna
Dawn, that's a good idea - lemon bars! Kanita put the recipe up somewhere. Maybe you'll become famous, too!
My jello experience leads me against bringing it even close to home in the winter. LOL, I made all these cute Christmas jello molds in red and green (mind you this is while living in a 24ft RV). I carefully unmolded them and place them around the larger center jello mold, covered them in plastic, placed them in the car then proceeded to drive down our VERY steep driveway, then get on the CURVY road on the way to DD's 4H Christmas party. Those little guys were sliding off and I was starting to fling them out the window, lest they melt on the carpet or seat! What a hoot. In my even younger years I made a cake for someone's birthday at work and made it THREE layers tall, each layer another color. I iced it and the next morning lightly covered it, placed in on passenger floorboard to be more stable, then commuted from San Pedro to downtown LA in stop and go (emphasize stop and go) traffic. Well, at least the Leaning Tower of Pisa/Cake-a did not come off the plate! Those 2 things make me laugh even today. Brownies in a nice secure pan are good to bring.
The image of you trying to throw jello out the window of a moving car will carry me for the rest of the day, Lynda! LOL
Now just quit making me laugh so hard! QG, I hate it when you work so hard and you end up throwing it all away. I like jello, but unless I plan on eating it all myself, it's not on the menu. It'll melt before my kids will eat it. Weird kids! I kind of like the leaning tower cake. It resembles more than one i"ve made. I used to know how to cook. Sigh . . .
Thanks for the name tag suggestion, Donna. I'm thinking of having something with people's name on it for every one to place in their loot pile. LOL!
Any one want to volunteer to meet and paste name tags on people?
I do have several picnic tables but you may want to bring your own chair, if you have one that makes you happy.
I think I heard someone saying they could bring coffee. (Thank God, I don't have to make it!). I have pots, and one is a dedicated hot water pot for those who'd rather have tea or hot choc.
I don't recall if anyone mentioned bringing drinks. But if you are coming from a distance that might be something to think about.
Thanks for your vote of confidence, but you know that a lot of really nice people are doing all the real work. They deserve most of the credit for keeping me on task. Thanks you all!
Okay lurkers, time to start committing to the RU Date. You Snooze, You Loose! : - )
Hope to see you soon!

I had a bad experience with my lemon bars last Christmas. I made them from a box though, and they sucked. I never made them from scratch. I am good with deserts. Let me ponder it, I bet I can come up with something great to add to Sopapilla Cheese Cake, that our dear Jo must bring for us. I can look at recipes for Lemon bars though.
I am bringing my dd and her 2 year old if it is ok?
I do have a swimming pool, and a life vest for the 2 year old to wear. Safety first! I'm sure that everyone will keep a close eye out for her, but please bring her (GD's) swim suit and a change of clothes so we can clean her up before we send her home. Kids have a tendency to get dirty here. LOL! The water was warm when I felt it yesterday. I'll check the temp today.
It's all good, and I appreciate knowing in advance. I worry about kids and my pool and pond.
I will have a table just her size too!
I'm so glad that you will be able to attend hellenzn, I can't wait to meet you and the family. I'm sure that whatever you bring, will give joy. (I have a soft spot for little girls~
