Spacebags DO NOT WORK!
I have a lot of bed & decorating pillows to the point they were swallowing my closet. So, I went to BB&B and spent $20 on these dang Space Bags. We stuffed 4 queen pillows in a bag, sucked the air out of it with our vaccum cleaner and voila, I had this wafer thin bag. We did a couple of other bags. What a dream! a gazillion pillows neatly arranged in minimal space. A week later I went looking for something in that closet and horrors! the bags were full of air. We went thru the whole process again, but a week later, full bags once again.
A little too late, I went googling reviews/opinions on the Space Bags. Just about all of the posters said the dang things eventually reinflated. I was mad at myself for wasting the money. I called the company and they offered n/c replacements, but many of the reviewers did the same, with no better results. I won't even bother.
Maybe somebody who is considering this for a storage alternative will research on their own instead b4 spending $.

I think everybody knows this but me...
They got me too. I thought that mine was defective lol
Well, bummer!! They sounded like such a good idea!
Yea thats like those super sonic mouse things you plug in the wall, supposed to keep mice out of the home. Right, I had mouse doody all around them lol
And what about those magic Mr Clean Erasers, like I want to clean my microwave with one after I just cleaned the wheels on the car lol
I should have named my thread: As Seen on TV, since so many of the products are too good to be true.
Remember the Debbie Meyer bags? I think they help extend produce life but I can't swear to it since: a) I made an effort to buy less than I can realistically consume b) tried harder to use what I have in a timely manner.
I recently got this disk at BB&B and I do think it keeps veggies in the refrigerator drawer crisper for a significantly longer period. It costs $5.99 and lasts 3 mo. I won't make a special trip just to get replacements, but if I'm in the area, i will definitely purchase them.

Just don't waste your money on the stupid space bags!
Got me one of those Shark vacumes, never looses suction, the dang thing wouldn't even pick the dog food bits (little ones too) off the kitchen floor. Cost me half of what it cost to send it back by the time I paid all the shipping and handeling costs Geeesh I'm a sucker!
My MIL buys all that stuff. QVC has her hooked, they sell the higher end stuff on there. Space bags, those produce bags (they don't work).
It seems that in these hard times, more and more useless crap is being offered on TV. Has anyone seen the vibrating dumb bells commercial? Supposed to give you twice the workout. When we first saw the commercial, we thought it was a joke, but they're really for sale. I hope Saturday Night Live picks up on that one. My DH was demonstrating the commercial at a recent party. The hostess had to leave the room before she wet her pants from laughing.
This is a great thread! How many of you have Snuggies and what do you think? I got one at my cousin-in-law's dirty santa exchange and it's ok, so ok I don't use it. I'm doing embroidery and the sleeves are so big they get in the way and take off with my string! It's kinda thin too, I'd rather have a sweatsuit on and a regular blanket.
crissyr, Funny you should mention the snuggies, I bought all the ladies of the family one for Christmas. I don't know what I was expectiing but like you was a little disapointed. They look just like the picture but something about dragging a blanket with sleeves that drags the floor is much silyer than just grabbing a robe, at least it has a belt lol. Daughter is gonna use hers for ball games.
Now that's a good idea! It's the sleeves, the blanket itself is fine, it's just a blanket. The sleeves are too short and way too big.
I agree there's a lot of crap you could fall for in these informercial products. That said sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We bought those space bags in the stackable cream colored fabric totes from Wal-Mart. I've reopened them several times to add to the bags (saving baby clothes) and have never had them in the 3 years using them re-inflate. We have 2 of them.
In the late 60's, my Mom showed me how to stuff a large trash bag with guest bedding and use a vaccume to pull all of the air out and then fold the end of the bag over and twist tie. We had fewer seal failures with black trash bags than my DIL has had with the Space Bags. (LOL - she thought that I was "old fashioned" and that putting things into trash bags was icky.)
We use the space bags for traveling. You would be amazed how much more you can get in a suitcase....grin. Never had a problem with re-inflating on me....but then I only need them for a couple three days at a time.
The space bags have always worked for me...and they are great when traveling.
Speaking of traveling...I am dreaming of a trip th the Netherlands next year so I am reading about hotels, etc. found one, and one of the amenties there, is the window being able to open....what!?
After making statement about Shark Vacume, I would like to say, they did re-imburse me in a timely fashion and I know they couldn't help the shipping and handling costs and possibly could have gotten the only rotten one they had. I did get a steam mop out of it which I did like a lot. Don't like to give a co. a bad wrap unless they really deserve it.
So frustrating--things that don't work as advertised! I refuse to believe that aero garden works. I am so sure it won't, that I am temtpted to get one jsut so I can prove it!
my MIL found some super humongous ziploc type bags, that if you can stuff something in and then lay on it while somebody zips it--could halfway substitiute for a Space Bag.
LOL sallyg, I saw those aero gardens at Sam's Club, so tempting but can't bring myself to buy one LOL as I suspect the same as you that it won't work.
Maybe I'll try those super humongous zip lock bags.. It's got to work better than the Space Bag lol
Tir Na Nog mentioned some kind of space bag at walmart. I went to their site and found 3 positive reviews. One woman said that after a week, they were wonderful! it was all I could do not to email and ask her is she still "loved them". lol.
It appears that b/c the plastic is so thin, it is easy to damage seams or zipper (anywhere along the way from manufacture to end user), which eventually lead to leaks. So, it seems accurate as many have pointed here that it is a gamble and should you get a perfect bag, it's heaven. if not, not so much.

The smaller bags have worked quite well....it is the larger sizes that seem to fail....may have something to do with surface area. May also be temperature differential/fluxuation....the big bags seem to re-inflate much faster in the attic than in the closet.
Seems the Space Bag is a 50 50 hit miss thing, you either get a good set or a bad set. I bet they are awesome for traveling, when Dave finds work in whatever he wants to do and we get into a better position again maybe I'll get some for traveling, or get some of those super humongous zip lock bags. hhhmmmmmmm
Crissy...with space bags for traveling, make sure you use the medium or small ones. The large one lets you stuff so much into them that the weight requitements on luggage get blown....grin DH has a warped sense of humor...said when I was packing for Australia trip "Well if the plane goes down at least our clothes will be nice and dry" He knows what a clucker i am about flying to begin with. Told him I was taking some of the large ones in my carry on bag for us....grin
My space bags worked great until my cats started chewing on them :)
We never fly anywhere so I don't care about weight, he doesn't like to fly but I do! At this rate we'll never be traveling anywhere ever again anyway LOL!! That's not true, just true for about 5 years.
LOL Jean, that pretty much takes care of that issue!
So how about other "As Seen on TV" products? Hair clips, therapeutic massage items, mattresses, shoot I need to watch some commercials. Oh here's one! Oxyclean!
Crissy, the Oxyclean does seem to work as a laundry additive. Everything white cotton has a tag saying not to use chlorine bleach on it....it can turn it yellowish....I use the oxyclean on GS's white uniforms and my white blouses. Keeps them bright.
Got one of those double decker single air beds, Worked good as long as you didn't move otherwise it would roll you out in the floor LOL Gave 129 dollars for that thing, liked the idea of it sitting up off the floor. Couldn't sell it at a yard sale so wound up giving it away poor sucker.
I guess you can call these commercials the equivalent of the old west's Snake Oil salesmen.
I use Oxyclean on whites also. Works great on yellowed curtains. I found an old white (cotton) prom-type dress of my DD's hanging in the back of a closet for 20 years. It was yellow. I remember I paid a fortune for that dress for her to wear once, so I soaked it in Oxyclean for days changing the water and adding fresh Oxy several times. The dress is as white and bright as the day I bought it for her. Of course, it's back in the closet again.
I agree Pastime...the Oxyclean is one "snake oil" that actually works.
I agree, I love Oxyclean. I don't use it enough though.
DD didn't like it, thinking maybe she didn't soak clothes first. Said it bleached some of the colored clothes.
What about the Magic Bullet? Have any of you tried it? We got one, I chipped some ice in it for a milkshake and when I drank it there was all these hard bits in the shake....when I looked they were bits of plastic that chipped off the inside of the blender! It works good if you need to pulverise nuts or something for baking but other then that it just leaks out the bottom.
I haven't heard of the Magic Bullet, what is it?
It's a blender....supposed to be super fast and easy to use....you'll sometimes see comercials for it
SW that doesn't sound healthy at all lol. Just saw advertisement for a Steam Ball of some sort, put water in it and throw in the dryer and clothes come out freshly pressed. They looked starched and new to me . Even have a spray scent to put in it for smell like dryer sheets or fabric softener, but didn't say fabric softener only good scent. You guys order it, its only 19.95 and you get two. Let me know how it works :-)
^_^ Go ahead, we will wait while YOU try it! ^_^
Not me Juney, I'll wait until it shows up at a garage sale , I've flushed enough money lol
I think that it works the same as a few tennis balls thrown into the dryer. I guess that you could put perfume on them. They work great to fluff and remove static cling. Best of all, they are free from a friend or colleague that plays the game.
