Coffee Break #29 - Halfway through January
yeah same reason my mom did that
Yup,mine too after I forced her into it. LOL
omg woolsworth ... we used to go shopping there too.. and if we were lucky eat lunch there!!.. LOL
Did you guys have JJ Newberry? How about Two Guys?
We had Woolsworth too....
I think everywhere had a Woolworth.
I remember 2 Guys! Used to love to go there. I think all the 5 and dimes were gone by then. When I was around 13, My mother took me for a hair cut--unusual b/c I always hAd very long hair and she always cut my bangs. It was cut very short and the cut was known as the 'pixie'. I loved it as it was summer, my father was furious--another bonus now that I think of it! ^_^
we had 2 guys
We had a Newberry's, a Woolworth's, Sears, and a McCrory's, downtown in the metropolis of Chambersburg, Pa. LOL Ric
Love the pic, Victor

JJ newberrys went out of business before Woolsworth did. We had an A&P which is gone and Sears which is still here but moves around quite often.
Last night a mouse ate my rubber spatula in the utensil draw. Opened the draw and saw little red things here and there. Picked up the spatula and it had missing rubber of course and teeth marks in it. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - whats next?
mouse traps--DH baited ours with popcorn & caught 7 of them at the beginning of the season. No more problems since then.
Glad to hear your eye is better sherrie. Migraines are no fun , hope you feel better too Jen. My son had a scratch on his eye that took a long time to heal because they found he had map dot syndrome. Told him if he ever had a job that required retina scan it would not work. Had to do eye drops for quite a while but it did heal okay.
We had a Woolworths and JJ Newburys here to, called them the five and dime. Remember A&P too. It was not a big super market back then, only a local store that sold tea and ground coffee fresh with a few groceries. Mr Wheeler ran it pretty much by himself. How things have changed. They are all gone now, not so sure that is a good thing.
Ewww on the mouse in the house. They are amazing the little spaces they can get through.
I second that Ewww.
we bought those electric mouse traps from HD.. a bit of peanut butter in them.. all gone.. no mess either
I have those critter ridder plug ins. Haven't seen or heard any mice this year, also throw around some moth balls in the attic.
Thanks ngam. Thank God for the inventors of Excedrin.
Glad your eye is better, Sherrie. Make sure you don't wait another 40 years for your next check up.
This is a major local chain--been around since I was a kid--really bad news! http://www.wfsb.com/news/22238338/detail.html?treets=hart&tml=hart_break&ts=T&tmi=hart_break_1_03150101142010
Sherrie--glad your eye is on the mend! If the ER discharged w/o a recommendation for eollow-up with an eye doctor, I believe they were negligent(not sure which legal term applies here) Speaking of 2nd opinions....This just came in my email
HOLY EMAIL
One day God was looking down at Earth and saw all of the rascally behavior that was going on. So he called one of His angels and sent the angel to Earth for a time.
When he returned, he told God, 'Yes, it is bad on Earth; 95% are misbehaving and only 5% are not..
God thought for a moment and said, 'Maybe I had better send down a second angel to get another opinion.'
So God called another angel and sent him to Earth for a time.
When the angel returned he went to God and said, 'Yes, it's true. The Earth is in decline; 95% are misbehaving, but 5% are being good.'
God was not pleased. So He decided to e-mail the 5% that were good, because he wanted to encourage them, and give them a little something to help them keep going..
Do you know what the e-mail said?
Okay, I was just wondering, because I didn't get one either.
LOL!! Me either
LOL Good one. I am not in the address book either.
Got it, but not permitted to forward it.
Sure you did!
Youngest Grandaughter Isabella is turning 1 today and Oldest child will turn 32 tomorrow. Time flies when your having fun.^_^
Time definitely flies.
Happy birthday to them both.
Yes - happy birthdays!
Thanks Jen.
Thanks Victor.
Thanks John-Boy.^_^
Glad to hear your eye is better Sherrie. Happy B-Day to your GD pixie.
Thanks D-nut!
V Victor..... I don't want to be rude but please tell me if you have a day job or do you spend all your time on NW gardening?
Wow - thanks for not being rude.
Nice to hear your good report, Sherrie! I think I had those same jazzy glasses when I was about 10.
We had Woolworth's here in Fort Myers, downtown. When we were pretty young, we'd go as a gang into town to catch the bottlecap movies on Saturday, and we'd always walk through Woolworth's. I remember that the floors were wooden and they would creak when you walked.
Happy birthday to DD and DGD, Celeste!! You're still pretty young and very youthful looking, so don't worry about time passing in your case!!! Bailey and Carli are aging me daily!!! LOL
Thanks Louise! Yes, I imagine those 2 are like having 2 year olds around!! LOL
Wow - thanks for not being rude.
Funniest thing I read all day!! Go get em!
ROTFL
Love this headline
"Best to lose some weight before weight-loss surgery"
Now if you could lose weight before the surgery do you really need the surgery????
Dont get me going on weight loos surgery. Its rarely a permanent cure.
Compulsive eating is really at the core.
There are a few people I know who are putting their weight back on.
On another topic.
I was watching news of Haiti and noticed the number of charities popping up like mushrooms to help with aide aka your money.
Be careful if you are donating.
Check out the charities carefully.
This country has one of the most corrupt governments going ,we have poured billions into that Islans since the 60's and most ,if not all, has gone to the officials.
You would think after 40 years they would have decent schools and hospitals, but NO
They would have an emergancy system in place NO
They would be helping the poor NO
No wonder the past elected officials want to come back to help their countrymen. Its time to dip into the aide thats comming into the country by the millions.
Yes it's terrible. DH & I went to the red Cross center in the city to donate . I had X amount to donate and ended up only sending half to Hati, our own Red cross is struggling to place people who have lost homes to fire. It's been brutally cold here, my mind went to the homeless. I could not help another country without helping my own out too....these are people I see on the streets daily. I had a hard time with that one, so I only sent half to Hati and the other half stayed in my State. :(
I'm waiting for our ususal charities to contact us. They have the experience in disaster areas. It sounds horrid, but I really don't trust the Red Cross money management. Haiti has been under dictators so long & now that they have a parliament, senior members of it were killed. Likewise the archbishop who might have been able to help direct things.
