Garden Objects #4

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I get that catalog .... out of control prices... but nice stuff

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

ldy, More to tempt you, http://www.carruthstudio.com/History.aspx

Carruth, I just drool over his work. Nice stuff.

Here is my "Fairy of Lost Things." She is flat on the back, to be hung up, but I have a metal rod stuck in the ground and bent the wire hanger to slip over the wire to hold her up.

so pretty!!

Rhododendron is finishing, so I placed 3 stained glass butterflies amongst the foliage for continuing color the rest of the summer. I move these butterflies around each year. This year they found their way to the front yard.

Here are two majolica style garden objects from my parents.
Up on the steps of the front porch is a fat frog and nestled into the garden is a small birdbath.

Here is a planter from Walmart, that i planted a small boxwood into.
Not really happy with the result. The clematis I had in their died. I thought it might dangle over the sides.
I am thinking on moving the boxwood to the garden, but what would I plant in its place.
The area is very shady and prone to deer snacking.

Sorry about the spelling mistakes, I should have previewed.
Here you can see that same planter viewed through the trellis.

Rileyobo, do you have a bench near the planter, it looks so inviting I just want to go thru the arbor and sit awhile, it looks so peaceful.

What a beautiful garden!
Those butterflies are so cute love the way you use them. I like the wal-mart planter but I think you are right about finding something else to plant in it. The box wood may just be too small, when it is taller it might work better. What about something a bit taller maybe clipped into a spiral. I could see some kind of topiary shape in that planter.

beautiful gardens, onewish, you crack me up.

Goes to show you - color isn't 'all that' - your spaces are beautiful Riley with the lovely green and just the spots of color.

Here is a favorite blue ball (but I would rather have 'the egg' Holly)

This guy is a birdhouse but is in for the winter. the red stuff is in the 'entrance'

A local potter made this - she didn't like it and let it 'go' to a new home pretty cheap! (but 'she' is 'no cheap piece of goods'!)

And this is my biggest and most serious garden 'pest' does a lot of damage...but maybe should post this in the Garden Pest forum..

Missingrosie, Your prettiest flower and garden 'pest' are adorable. What beautiful children. I love your ceramic lady. How tall is she? What's her name? Although I too Love Holly's egg, I'm quite taken by the blue sphere among the deep green foliage.

Riley, I'd really like to know what vine you have on your arbor. It looks familiar but I can't place it. The texture and size of those leaves and the lushness of it is superb. My arbor has a first-year Josephine that's about waist high, and a second year Jackmanii that hasn't bloomed yet. It doesn't have quite the impact (read puny) of yours.

Later, after the forty five mile per hour wind gusts die down, I'm going to take pictures of my new bird bath and mushroom and stop back in here. Right now the plants are whipping around like crazy and my pollen allergy is on red alert.

Edited after seeing I had the wrong names posted. Sorry it must be the Benydril.

Pam- thank you (flower and pest are grandkids)

The lady is maybe 2 feet high.

I have a few puny vines too. I hide them with hycacinth bean - quick growing and so pretty.

I was just telling someone how windy it is here. I keep hoping for rain..after this winter I didn't think I'd ever say that again, but the garden is drying up and I am on a well. I agree about that pollen...all the pollen from the past weeks had settled on the shrubs and my nose was right in it. I had no tissue ....too lazy to go into house to get.... so was driving myself NUTS with the sniffling. I think the frogs hated it too - they all leapt into the water after a while.

The vine is a Japanese climbing hydrangea. It is 13 years old. It took 3 years for me to get the first bloom.
When we first moved here, I got a list from the Md. Cooperative Extension from the Univ of Md. for deer resistant plants.
I bought 1 of each and put them into this side garden. Most was eaten quickly. What survived was a Leatherleaf Mahonia, a Peris Japonica and the climbing hydrangea.

Here is a similar view of the trellis from earlier this year, when the daffodils were out and the bleeding heart had not bloomed.
The previous picture is after the blooming hearts have finished. The hydrangea blooms late spring. So I added a clematis to the left side to fill in some early spring color.

Rosie, They are very lovely grandchildren. I went outside again, but couldn't stand being out more than a minute. It's so dry there is a wildfire warning. I thought we were golden after the snows, but it would be so nice to have a nice gentle rainy day. We also are on a well and haven't had rain in a month. I've been hauling water to the 5 trees we hand planted late last year. Their tender leaves look dessicated today.

Riley, I'm very impressed by your beautiful vine. Your garden path is very romantic, especially as the trees have leafed out and one wonders where the path leads. Good job creating that sense of mystery.

Maybe tomorrow I'll take a picture of my new garden art. Less wind, please.

Missingrosie, Love the blue ball and the glass globe flowers surrounding it. The blue egg is up and running again this year. The Grans just love playing with it, sticking their fingers in the hole and getting sprayed. LOL What wonderful "flower and pest". I think Grandchildren are the most wonderful thing in the whole world. All the fun with out the responsibility. I love all the garden art you always have such interesting pieces.
Riley, I just planted a Mahonia and Peris Japonica. Climbing Hydrangea is high on my want list. Only reason I don't have one yet is we haven't decided on a trellis for it yet. I do have a few pieces of new Garden Art but I don't have them placed yet but eventually I will post a few pics. Wouldn't surprise me if I don't get another piece or two tomorrow.

ldy_gardenermd, I love your piggy bed. Such whimsy lightens my heart!

Rileyobo, that majolica birdbath is really lovely and your trellis looks beautiful. I put in two of those Japanese climbing Hydrangeas Roseum last year. One is growing leaps and bounds, the other is doing nothing.

Missingrosie, I too love your lady and the blue sphere. I'm a big fan of spheres in the garden and I particularly like blue ones.

I'm late with the garden objects this year. Haven't taken a one out of the basement yet. I'm still trying to tackle cutting all of the spent bulb blooms down. There are thousands and thousands of them. I've been doing a couple hours a day's worth. Today was a day for picking all of the fallen branches out of the beds. There were many crushed blooms from the fallen branches, so I made two nice bouquets for inside Yesterday and today there was so much trash blown into the beds and so many things needed to be staked from the wind.

I did have to pick two stainless steel gazing balls up and affix them to their pedestals and retrieve some downed fairies and sprites. The wind has been amazingly strong and constant.
