When we first moved here, I got a list from the Md. Cooperative Extension from the Univ of Md. for deer resistant plants.
I bought 1 of each and put them into this side garden. Most was eaten quickly. What survived was a Leatherleaf Mahonia, a Peris Japonica and the climbing hydrangea.

Here is a similar view of the trellis from earlier this year, when the daffodils were out and the bleeding heart had not bloomed.
The previous picture is after the blooming hearts have finished. The hydrangea blooms late spring. So I added a clematis to the left side to fill in some early spring color.
