Garden Objects #4

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I miss Wrightie, I was thinking about her the other day. Must have been when Luvs, posted pics of her Danes. Holly

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Holly, my sister has some of those lit grape cluster sitting above her kitchen cabinets. She got them at Costco. Try Ebay, there will probably be some there.

I'm glad that I went out on Thursday and brought that blue metal sculpture into the basement. The wind had blown it loose from it's pedestal, even though it had been secured with Plumbers Putty.

There's going to be a lot more rust on our objects when this stuff finally is done melting.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I keep meaning to post pic of what I got from that Collections Etc place. Here is a good picture of the Blue Bell solar lights. I really like them there are 3 lights with 3ft of wire between each light so you can either spread them out 6ft along a walk or group them anyway you might like in a flower bed. The solar collector has 3 ft of wire between it and the first light so you could place the lights in a shadier spot if you have a sunny spot near by for the solar collector. I wanted to see how well they worked so I put them in a pot in my windows and they seem to be working just fine. I really like them.

Here are the trellis things I bought. They are meant to be hung outside over a doorway or window. I thought they were really cute but I wouldn't use them like that at my house. They aren't real heavily built and you can see the attachment points that are just big enough to run screws though you certainly couldn't bolt it to something. But they aren't real flimsy either, I think they could support light weight vines like MG but not something heavy like Trumpet Vine or Wisteria. I also think they would be really nice for inside use if you grow house plants that vine I could see these screwed in to a wall or window molding or maybe used to hang shear curtains and artificial flowers as a window treatment or headboard for a little girls room. I was really please with these and thought that they were pretty much what I expected to get. Still not a100% sure where I will use them but I have been thinking maybe over the door way in the GH when we build that. I bought 2 of them and I was thinking I could wire them together back to back to make an arch and attach them to a couple of posts to grow MG on this summer. I think I might just have a spot for that.

collections is a dangerous site for me... love your lights!!

Oh yeah, Collections, Lakeside Collection is one of my favorites, Terry's Village and Tender Heart Treasures, they are all dangerous.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yep yep and yep

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Holly, You got two really nice items. I like the bell lighgts and that overhead trellis is really cute. It will look great at the greenhouse entrance.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

This is delayed - but I just read this thread. Great photos by the way. Gita you have to send that poem to Blue Ridge Magazine. It is great. Please send it.

I will post a photo of something in the garden too to contribute.

A metal horse. Not sure how well it will show up here.

It looks OK its 'feet' buried tho.

That's a neat horse.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

It's blown over twice and that is scary - it is heavy. It has a huge stake that gets nailed through it but the ground was too hard. Come spring and I will do it.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

missingrosie--

Thank you for your kind words re my Poem....

Could you give me more info. on the "Blue Ridge" magazine? I am not familiar with it.
I will be happy to submit it to any magazine/publication. I think it is great too. NOT being arrogant--I just cannot believe I wrote it myself! Just one of those moments in life that produced something wonderful.

Thanks, Gita

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I will look for the magazine and see if I can get a submission address. The publishers print photographs and I can't help but think that they would absolutely welcome your lovely poem. Will you D mail me to remind me and I will try to get it tomorrow.

missingrose, Your horse is great. I love that you've placed it near that fence. It gives a nice natural impression of where a real horse would be.

Yeah, but it gives me no fertilizer like a real warm-blooded horsey would!!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

This is a copper snail which stands guard over some of our hostas next to the front walk. Neighbor's farm is in the distance. We unfortunately do not have their abundance of full sun.

The senior member of our hedgehog family has not aged well. He began life as a boot scraper, but as sometimes happens with humans, his hair was not to be a lifelong feature. This fall's leaf blowing sent the last of his dark fur into the woods, and he is now a pot holder. We're on the lookout for a more compatible container.

Pat--the snails eyes just crack me up! Hopefully he scares the real snails and slugs away from the Hosta, right? Nice recovery use for the bald hedgehog.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL, I like the snail's antenna too. It's very odd to make a snail out of copper. They can't abide copper. He is too cute to lay down on the ground to really make a barrier. Maybe Sally's right and he's a scaresnail! LOL Do snails look up in the air?

Poor bald hedgehog. A critter of many lives. Just how many lives does a hedgehog have?

Greenthumbs, it's about time we had a man around here showing off his garden objects!!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I have to admit that the snail is Pat's, but I did acquire the hedgehog.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Hm, soft and gentle (snail) , versus bristly (hedgehog) --do we have a personal statement going on here?
I am really overdue for an object. I have almost nothing. Does that make my garden objectionable?
Last fall I ripped out some unblooming Siberian iris (tree roots and shade) and took my kids 'stepping stones/ concrete handprint/whatevers, and lined them up. Finally they look sort of decorative rather than scattered. I also promise myself to do something with my gourds.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

The bristly hedgehog just gave me my own DG membership!

The snail does seem to keep its smaller counterparts away, thankfully.

Shudder to think of those Siberian iris being ripped out, but do understand.

Pat (Mrs. Greenthumb)

Woo! go Pat! joining the ranks of DH/DW teams here.
Those Siberian iris are a very old cultivar (groan to realize, if its been at my moms house "forever", and add my age--it qualifies as heirloom LOL) and I'm pretty sure I have spread clumps of it around Mid Atlantic, plus still have some. It just couldn't seem to bloom in the spot.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I love that snail it is too cute. LOL
I agree great save on the hedgehog.
OOOOHHHHAAAAA Your own membership! I tried to get a family deal. Fork over a few$$ so Ric could have his own
but they coiuldn't do that and he wasn't ready to pay full price. Isn't it nice when you both love to garden? Holly

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Love the snail, has that "So what are you looking at" attitude. LOL

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I couldn't resist the snail when I saw it in Harrisburg, PA, at one of their events. Certainly does have either attitude or a frazzled look. Felt more that we were sharing a frazzled moment, actually, but you have a good point.

We realized that trying to share one membership wasn't going to keep peace in the household, and had never thought about asking if there was a family deal. Was surprised when I logged in this a.m. to see an email saying I was all joined up. Both definitely crazy about plants of all kinds.

Love Sally's definition of an heirloom plant.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Pat, Your "gift" is also a gift to us! Holly & Ric were driving us crazy trying to guess which one of them was talking to us, especially after they got 2 computers. My tired brain thanks the Hedgehog!!

I love Sally's heirloom plant definition too. It seems so fitting as many of us are approaching heirloom gardener status!!

There were some nice sculptures similar to your snail at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Sadly, I passed on them as mostly they were beaucoup bucks!!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

We're eagerly awaiting pictures from the show. Washington Post put in a few, but of those, some were of the people TAKING photos, not of the flowers or displays.

What were your favorites?

The snow is melting at last! No more like in the snail pic.

Glad we can lessen confusion with the 2 IDs. We're hooked!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ric picked up a couple of small dragonflies for over by the bathtub pond. There are two on stakes and one that will sit on the edge of the tub. The one that sits is a little heavier made

Here is one of the ones on a stake. They are hanging out with the Bougainvillea for the time being.

Greenthumb would mind posting a close up of your snails face.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

No snow for background now on the snail! We'll get to it hopefully tomorrow. Greenthumb is off to his sister's today in Arlington to remove fallen branches. I'm about to do the same here. So nice to be able to be out in the yard again without layers of clothing. Lots of things popping up and can't wait to discover more.

And a frog, who hangs out by our pond.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Thank you Ecnalg I was thinking they didn't look difficult to make and I have a son that is a plumber and loves making things with copper. That frog is just adorable.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

That frog is cute, looks like he spotted a nice juicy bug "He's mine, He's Mine!!!"

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Pat, That's a great Frog!!! He looks very happy to be in your garden!!

Your snail is better looking than Gloria Swanson!!
