Garden Objects #4

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

You know someone posted their site a few years back and I thought some of things were "cheap" looking. Boy was I wrong, for the price there's nothing cheap about them except the price!

rcn--

Love how you displayed the cranes! Those stones below makes it look like they are guarding a clutch of eggs......
Did you intend for it too look like that?

It will be a long time that I see my garden....Hope there isn't too much damage to all the shrubs. That shrub just to the left of my steps is my beautiful Camellia....it is all sprawled due to the snow. Things are pretty wrecked....

Gita, our Hollies out front are looking like your Camellias :( I was hoping they'd recover after the first "big" storm but I'm afraid after the snow yesterday they're going to need a severe pruning. We didn't get as much as you but it was HEAVY!

LOL, I actually chose a few rocks so the cranes wouldn't look so lonely but the round white one caught my eye - a perfect egg :)

RCN, What great booty!! I love your Dragonfly Lantern. In also like that standing Lantern? that you need a pedestal for. Some of the things I have used for pedestals are rocks, logs, pots. It's square shape will dictate what you use. I have a green glazed squared off flower pot around 10" tall that would work Just flip it over and set the object on top. Try looking at the pots when you're out. You might find one that works just fine., Rocks are a little tougher because their surface isn't always level. Log sections are easy because you can cut them to size needed.

I also like your preying mantis. Good call by your hat hating daughter!
It's really nice to have an inexpensive source for garden decor. In my experience, some of the expensive things fall apart sooner than the cheaper ones. The elements are tough on everything. Thanks for reposting that link.

Jen, That is cute.
RCN, Thanks for the link. Just love those Blue Bell Stake Solar Lawn Lights
Gita, I'm a bit worried about some of my bushes, too. They weathered the last storm ok but I couldn't hardy get to them to knock the snow off.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks, that was the snow we had last week, right now they are buried.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Jen, I was wondering how you could find them in this. They do look cute.

Good call by your hat hating daughter!

LOL! I love the dragonfly lantern too :) It's larger than I thought it would be, even better! Not sure if it will ever see a candle, probably would just melt in the heat. But I have been looking at those flameless candles :)

Cute Jen! I stuck one of the solar Asian lanterns in the snow to try it out when they arrived. The snow melted and it fell over and now it's probably buried for a long time :(

Holly, I like those Blue Bell stakes too! I'm looking at some of their fairies just in case I find a place for a fairy garden :) This fairy house is a little more $$ than I'd like to spend but if it goes on sale, it's mine! LOL

I got a chinese lantern several years ago and sat it on the edge of the pond to light the night, possibly , but someone found better use of it as you can see during the hottest part of the day...

What a GREAT photo!

Thought I'd share a pic of where the bird bath my son bought for me ended up - by my front door :)

How pretty , I would have found a nice place for it too..By the way the fog's name was Romeo

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

LOL, was there a Juliet?

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes I have a friend named Julie who has had the worst luck with men . So I call her Juliet and like me she has a pond and is fond of frogs too. And kindingly I told her that maybe she could confide in Romeo and he might help her find prince charming LOL. He vanished after 5 years last spring during the heavy rains... I missed him because he would let me stoke his back with my finger he was not afraid of me.....Here is a picture of Romeo taken the previous year , it was taken about 2 feet away... I must have taken 15 shots and he never even moved....

Oh Orchid, Romeo is a beauty. I don't have any nice lanterns. I will look for one this year.

Rcn, That is a great spot for that birdbath. Great spot to drop your keys and sunglasses as you come in the door.

The fairy cottage is really cute.

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

I think that I got mine at wall mart in Cambridge 7 or 8 years ago, It is abit rusty but it give's it a rustic charm LOL .

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Orchid in this forum we have a love hate relationship with rust!!

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

This year I might do something about the rust thing but no guaranties. That lantern get routinely shoved in the pond by the local Mama raccoon or her pups... She had 4 last year. I have several projects planed for this year. The city is planing to put the sidewalks that were planned 60 years ago for the 6 children that walk to school meaning I have to move my flower beds back in my front yard and this will be a major job.I am not amused about it since 90% of the parents are driving their children to school blocking the street below me and this will not change a thing... I am annoyed about it...On the light side of it I will have a sidewalk to walk my dog LOL.

Picture the front yard last year , my yard is also a natural habitat.

very pretty.. so sorry to hear about all that work you have ahead of you... and the parents tick me off bringing the kids to the bus here as well.. my roads are all small and they drive like they are still sleeping and could care less other people need to get around them.. there is one side street I take to avoid them.. but it's even smaller and have to creep out to see traffic.. 2 blind corners.. lots of fun

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

That garden is just beautiful. Hope all goes well in the moving process. Another bright side is that more walkers will enjoy your gardens.
In our area you have to pay to put in the sidewalk in front of your home and keep it in good repair. Where my parents live there are a lot of mature trees and the sidewalks are all uneven due to tree roots. One of the neighbors had an issue with a walker that tripped and fell in front of their home. Honesty their walk really isn't that bad just a inch or so higher. Don't know what happened but the walker was threatening to sue (sp?) These are trees that were planted between the street and the sidewalks the homeowners didn't planted them but they are required to maintain the trees too. So if you have a dead tree you have to pay big$$ to an insured tree remover. Tree lined streets with sidewalks are really nice and it would cost a lot and raise taxes if the city maintained them so I do understand. But you have alot of people out there that just can't afford to take care of these mandated public areas. I guess that if you are a homeowner it is just one more thing you are responsible for.

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

The sidewalk will be going on the city right of way . They are verygood about taking care of the curbs and the driveway aprons. This is nice. The street where the school is located is narrower than mine and people park on both side of the street and spill over into my street , they dont have any problems blocking driveways and sometimes blocking the traffic because" someone is moving and they want that spot" Recently I was talking to someone and we realized that if there was a fire at the school or an emergency when the school opens or close , the vehicles would not be able to get through, is that sad or what... Right now I am with a group focusing on this issue and we intend to make a lots of noise about it. As far as people seeing my yard quite a few do because they walk their dogs and stop by and talk to me if I am out in the evening .

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Well, I'm sure that you will use this chore as an opportunity to change things in those lovely beds to something that you might like even more.. Gardeners are great at turning adversity into joy. I love your habitat.

Central, VA(Zone 7b)

It's great to see all of your pretty garden ornaments. like being out window shopping. I've put off ordering until the snow is gone because it's such a hassle for the big old UPS truck to get to the house, so since we've had so much snow I'm really saving a bundle. I've got all this pent up need to order something. I think I've been stuck inside too long.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Now we know the secret to QVC & HSN's success!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I can just see the rebar garden art come summer. LOL
Oh Orchidfancy at least you won't have to shell out $$ for the pavements. When you start make sure to get before during and after pics so we can follow your progress. Holly

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sorry you have to move your gardens, orchid. Believe me the fire trucks will get thru, even if they scrape up the cars on both sides of them.(hubby was a fireman for 14yrs)

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

I love how Jen just pops up out of nowhere.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

hee hee

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Not that Joisey is nowhere!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL, I love Jen's comments, too. Holly

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

OHHHHHHH RCN, Ric was trash talking you. LOL
I ordered those blue bell solar lights and these really interesting trellises that bolt on to the wall over a doorway or window. Now I don't know where I will use those trellises but not on the house. All I know is that I like them and want two of them I will figure out how and where to use them later. Ric's trash talking started when I said I was buying them even though I didn't know what I was going to do with them. That's when he said "You are as bad as RCN get it now and figure out what to do with it later". I take that as a high compliment. LOL

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

It must have something to do with that name Ric(k).

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

WHAT??? Trash talking me, shame on you Ric! LOL Holly, I can't wait to see the lights when you get them - if they're as nice as they look I might have to add them to my Christmas list for next year :) Just be prepared, I get bombarded with emails from their website. I know I could just "unsubscribe" but there might be something I can't resist!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes I am expecting that. I got an extra 15% off for giving them my E-mail and I also got a $15coupon to use at a later date. I saw several other things I liked but didn't know if I would use. They had these strands of grape cluster /leaf lights they weren't out door lights and I know I saw them somewhere and really liked them. I was thinking they might have been on the mantel decorations in the Dupont House. I wonder if Sally would remember we were looking at those decorations pretty closely. They also had some solar powered snowflake lights that I liked.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

What?? I got the 15% off but I didn't get any $15 coupon??? :( I had my eye on the solar powered dragonfly lights but don't tell (your) Ric - I have no idea where I'd hang them! LOL I wish I had that little smiley that sticks its tongue out at you - I'd send it to him :)

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

trust me I will be taking before and after pictures.Along the curb last year

I love Asters!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

jen and orchid--very cute.
Holly- I do remember some kind of lighted artificial grapes on that mantel...

hey orchid--if someone walks by with a gorgeous black and white Great dane--she's been a DGer at a time, not posting lately in this area anyway.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Orchid, I forgot to comment on your curbside garden - what a shame the city's sidewalk project will cut into all your hard work :( Hopefully they'll get their work done early so you'll have plenty of time to get it back in shape so you'll see Asters blooming again in the fall! Rick's going to have a mess to deal with when the snow melts :( His woodland garden took a beating from the county's snowplow last weekend. They dug into the edge of the road at least a foot and everything is flipped over and just laying on top of the snowbank. Lesson learned, when he does get it replanted he'll probably move it back a little and we'll try putting flags along the edge and hope the snowplow sees them!

Hey, where IS wrightie? We haven't heard from her in a long time :(
