If you haven't been before, it's truly spectacular. Whet your appetite with the recent article I wrote about it, http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2754/ , or check out last year's MAG photo thread, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/959798/.
Who is planning to go? What day(s) will you be there?
Let's see if we can get a group together for the show!
2010 Philly Flower Show, Passport to the World, 2-28 to 3-7
Hubby owes me for not going with me this weekend to Longwood so maybe I can talk him into doing Philly.
The show starts on Sunday, Feb 28th and runs til Sun March 7th. Will most folks want to go on a weekday or on a weekend? I can go either weekend or Mon the 1st or Fri the 5th. What dates are good for everyone else?
Friday the 5th would be good for me, as I think Jim should be off that Friday... not sure he'll choose to go if I can find somebody else to keep me company on the ride, but he'd be able to stay home with Little Bit (or I could take her along of course, but it would be a pretty long day for her).
I'm pretty flexible, though. :-)
Didn't Tammy say that Friday was her day to work at the show?
Holly and I usually go on Wednesdays, the displays are still fairly fresh looking and the inital crowd has thinned a little. Ric
We were talking about this a little on Sat. at Terri's. Ric
Did a good gathering date emerge from the discussion?
Holly pointed out that the flowers are fresher earlier in the week. No one seemed to jump on a date. Onewish would have to go on a weekend, I think. Critter, would you have to find a sitter for a day other than Friday? That would be a long sitting job. Don't know if you've ever left Joyana with a sitter before. Mon & Fri still work best for me. I don't recall Jen saying much.
Monday might be really good, at least every thing would be very fresh. The trip might be a little busy, although arriving mid morning, 10ish, would be after the morning commute and early truck traffic. In my opinion, leaving after dinner is advisable for anyone using the Surekill crawlway. Ric
I really look forward to this show, internationally reconized,it's one of the best in the US!

That Friday is one of Jim's every-other-Friday days off from work, and Wednesday is his usual work-at-home day that could probably be shuffled. I wouldn't leave Joyanna with a sitter all day -- if he's not available, I'll just bring her along. Adventure Girl is a pretty good traveler. But to have at least the option of leaving her home with Jim, Monday is probably the worst day for us... solid meetings for Jim, and not always ones he can do from home (he's in Rockville today).
I was thinking it might be too hard for a large group to get around but that if we knew when people might go we could maybe meet up for lunch or spend sometime together checking out some of the displays. Ric and I usually go on a Wednesday and old habit from when we still worked and had Wednesday off. I think we could pretty much go any week day but wouldn't be likely to go on the weekend.
Holly, It only looks like there are 4 of us posting on this thread.
I agree about picking a couple of rendezvous places & times and then going from there... we'll all be interested in different things, so people will split up anyway. Of course, if I bring Joyanna I know we will all trail along with her in a big mob because nobody will want to miss her giggles! jk ;-)
I'm hoping Terri and I will drive up together as we did last year, not sure if Bobbie would be able to take a weekday off to join us but Terri's schedule is usually a bit flexible.
Even on the last day of the show, the flowers and displays look pretty good!
Oh Critter, I thought Ric and I would take Joyanna around with us. Maybe give you a break. (oh how thoughtful I sound) giggle giggle.
Maybe she would like to come home with us for a few days and play with my Grans. You know just give you a little rest?????? Hehehe Yeah, like that's going to happen..LOL
On a serious note can't wait to see her she must be getting so big now. Holly
LOL, you are welcome to come down next week while Jim is out of town... we can have a "winter sowing and making Joyanna giggle" party. :-)
I appreciate knowing I'd have help juggling her if I brought her along to the Philly Show. I know she'd love it, but she'd probably love it even more in another year or two. :-)
I keep lurking, not knowing if I'll be able to go til the last minute. I've enjoyed going the several times I've gone.
not sure when we will be able to go yet
well, if one date doesn't work for all of us, we could pick two different dates.
Right... I think the main purpose of this thread is so we'll know what dates people are planning to go, so that people there on the same day can get together if they want. We're not going to find one date that's good for everybody; never happens, LOL.
Nope, never happens. ^_^
I really like the venue for the Philly show, the Reading station has some of the best food and variety just across the street!
I'm making me hungry just thinking about it. LOL The vendors are interesting and all the competition helps keep the prices somewhat in check. Ric
Oh yes... we found some great cheesesteak subs last year, and we did "a bit" of shopping in the vendor area also!
We are planning to join the group.
This will be here before we know it. Maybe we should give some thought to dates.
Monday the first would be good for us.
Wednesday or Friday continue to be better days for me, not that we all have to go on the same day...
Terri (Aspenhill) and I are planning to go together, so I'll have to see when she's available. She's been off on alternate Fridays like Jim, but I don't think it's been on the same weeks LOL
Everyone's schedules are so different & with all of this snow, I'm sure lots of things are going to be getting rescheduled.
Next week's forecast is showing snow on Mon, Tues & Wed.
I'm up for whatever day works for the rest of you guys. Jill and I will be driving up together, can't wait! Terri
I think Ric and I will probably go on Wednesday.
I'll be happy to meet up with anyone on Monday or Friday.
Looks like Wednesday is what will work out for Terri & me also.
Anybody else for Wednesday?
Stormy, wish I could go Monday when everything will be so fresh, but I'd rather have the option of leaving Little Bit home, especially if it's bitter cold.
Hey guys, it's no problem. I'll be happy to call a friend to go with. I just can't rearrange all of my Wed appointments.
It sounded like some other folks were interested in Monday, so maybe we'll have 2 "DG days" as we figured -- Monday and Wednesday. ?
Just post when you know what day you're going, so you can exchange cell phone numbers and set up meeting times with other DGers who will be there that day. (FYI, don't count on being able to hear your cell phone ring in the main convention hall... it's busy in there!)
I know R_R_R is planing on coming, too. Not sure what day.
Stormy I was wondering if we do end up coming on Wednesday maybe we could get together for diner after the show with you. Ric and I might just stay over instead of heading home. It would really be nice to visit. Holly
Monday sounds good to us. We might be staying over also. I'll find out more when Bob comes in and we talk.
Holly, I may be able to arrange that.
We are planning for Monday also. Looking forward to seeing Holly, Ric, Stormy and Larry so far.
We are planning for Monday also and looking forward to seeing Holly, Ric, Stormy and Larry so far.
Teri, Ric and Holly are going on Wed.
