Pretty iris Allison and Ge that picture is card worthy!!
Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris
'Forever Blue'
Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 5
sweet blue
Thanks Ge. ^_^
Missed a day ,just catching up. Love all the garden bed shots and lilies. That is a very pretty little iris, nice light blue color.
Does 'Forever blue' rebloom for you, Pixie? It does in many cold spots including west of here. It didn't do so for us, but we have trouble with them.
No rebloom yet but it sure has started clumping up nicely. I've had it 3 years this spring I think.
clumping is good
Pat, 'Monte Negro' or 'Black Out"?
Ya that's it Pix, 'Monte Negro'. It just got lost in the file of names in my head and I did not label the pic. Where did you get your pretty blue iris? I am leaning towards the shorter ones. The TBI seem to get so tall and heavy with blooms, specially if it rains, that they need staking and I really don't want to do more of that in the garden than I have to. Getting a little lazy in my old age I guess.
I got 3 as a bonus .Just planted them in October. WOW they are nockouts
thx everyone for all comments - polly i like those ferns too - except they have found there way to the top of the wall and into the azalea's - have to pull them out constantly
here is another long shot in the back yard through a bed i built last spring - the rody was a "volunteer" that i transplanted and trimming into shape.
and joann i like that bird house with the roses
thanx It isnt mine tho.I deleted the album for the garden where it is. Friends place with a huge collection of David Austin roses.
i saw you mentioned that - i might have to build one like it
Pretty double peony Dnut, it sure is a big fat bloom. Looking forward to getting a whiff of them again.
Bill your beds are so neat and well kept. How nice of some bird or squirrel to plant than pretty rhodie for you. I am waiting to see them again as well. And btw you can have all my snow if any from the storm tonight and tomorrow.
thx pat - the rody came about by a branch taking root
speaking of volunteers - does anyone else have hosta babies - one of my beds has several little baby hosta in them - must come from seed heads that i left on a few times
so romantic
Pretty hydrangea, nice colors Victor. Does it bloom on new wood too?
Bill I have a few 'Patriot' hosta. They will throw seeds like crazy I have found if not dead headed. Other ones not so much. Here is a bloom from one of the babies. The usually have heart shaped leaves, all green not variegated like the 'Patriot'.
Pretty shade, Pat. No - only old wood.
Pixie - sweet iris.
Nice shot, ge.
DN - you do have big and beautiful blooms on your peony!
Ngam - I agree - no staking is the best of all worlds. Lovely lilies.
Victor - that's too beautiful! Fantastic photo! Do you think you'll go into the photo business eventually?
Bill - your grounds are impeccable. I do have some hosta babies I found in one garden and thought I wouldn't bother relocating just two or three. Then I found four or five more and another few after that. So I did put them all in one area and we'll wait and see what they look like.
Lily Oscar:
Thanks, Pirl! I am considering it and have sold a number of photos so far. Great combo!
You've got the talent, Victor! Any hydrangea nursery should want your photos.
Thanks.
Might as well make a buck towards a new camera
Pirl and I cross posted and she brings up a sore point with me. I ordered a lily from American Meadows( what a dumn thing to do)
I ws trying to find my file of it to enter it into the garden folder where i planted it.
When I googled I found tons of pink variations of what AM had as a mediym coral color. PF has it as pink. Pirl and I just spent half an hour comming up with a color solution. There needs to be more accurate coloring on websites.
Thanks-gawd for PFiles.
Absolutely agree JoAnn. If I can get a reasonably decent pic of a plant with true to my eye color then these so called professionals can. So the question arises are they trying to deceive or just don't care. There are of course reasons for subtle differences such as comp. monitor, time of day and certain flowers do change color as they age. These blooms then should be shown in a range of light, time and age so the consumer can get a true idea of how a flower will look under different conditions.
I doubt we will ever see that happen.
It depends on the garden website and size of business. They want to sell plants and their cryteria isnt the same as gradeners. I will go out on a limb here and say that many sales are from hobby gardeners who arent aware of those subtleties.
I dont know why Ididnt check PF first.
I think the ad was a bargin rate fro the fall and I just blindly bought.
I can usually tell when a ad has been doctored, they usually go darker than the actual color and add blue when they want a reddish color to look lavander. Its as tho they make up a discription for the plant and then adjust the photo to correspond.
Photoshop may be a blessing for those who sell plants but it's not good for the gardener. The alteration in the blue colors is maddening.
I suspect any photo where the leaves are soooo dark they can hardly be seen.
Also suspect leaves that are too bright green-green when the blossom is orange or yellow.
A lot of that can be lighting. It's so drastically different in the very early morning hours to the hot sunny hours.
There is no reason why one lily photo should have a dark center and spotting (Harper's) while yours has neither and yet they're both supposed to be the same flower. I really like both photos but they can't be the same lily.
Here is the gammut on google

Thanks, Pirl.
The color is always a problem - even with a good dslr. Better if you can custom change the white balance.
I'll start a new thread shortly. 61 more days!
