Ring-bills standing on the lake ice. I watched a Herring Gull make a landing on the ice and it was so comical. I bet that bird slid 75 feet. Couldn't get any pics of the Herring Gulls, they are about one-third larger than the Ring-bills. Easy to pick them out of a raft of birds. Also saw some Bonaparte's Gulls.
DAILY PICS VOL. 274
Great pics Red! I'll bet that was comical watching the Gull landing. Love the Roadrunner!
So pretty Rose.
Red...so nice to see a Roadrunner. They are so cool!
Resin, that's great information on the fish line which I'll watch for too.
Hack, great assortment of birds there. That little Song Sparrow is sure colorful.
Nanny, thanks for the flicker info.
Mrs Ed, I'm sure going to save a couple of my sunflower heads next spring!
Dave, glad you found that old card. The birds are beautiful!
Red, love that roadrunner!! Pretty gulls, ducks and geese too!
Rose, I just love your photos, especially the wps and that starling is gorgeous!
This Ruby crowned Kinglet brought me a little cheer in the thick fog.
Nice pictures everyone, I can't possibly comment on all. I'm so glad to see the Northern Flickers and Redbellied, Downy and other colorful WPs posted since I see them here but unable to get their pictures due to shady condition. Here is a long over due pix on this beauty. The Redheaded Wp. I was delighted to find this one perching on the brightly lit branch. He in turn was currious to find me staring at him with my camera.
Hack, please send me some Junco. I haven't seen them here.
2dCousinDave - Wow, Dave, talk about a Senior moment.:-) That Canon EOS-1D took some SHARP pics. Love the female Cardinal.
reddirtretiree - I've never see a real live Roadrunner. Was Wily Coyote sneaking around? :-)
dellrose - that Tufted Titmouse pic is great. I have some that I see regularly.
ducbucln - that Ruby-crowned Kinglet brought to mind memories of one or two I've seen around here.
Lily_love - I'd be happy to swap some Juncos for a few Redheaded Woodpeckers. That thing is PRETTY.
Burd_Fotos - So many great shots and variety too. I especially like the pic of the White-throated Sparrow. I have quite a few around here.
dellrose - I really like the looks of that male Pileated Woodpecker. Nice
Hack
Hack, as a matter of fact there was a coyote right across the road from that Roadrunner. When I first saw this RR he was in the middle of the road feeding on roadkill. Something that I'd not seen before, but not surprising. RR's are are cunning predators, they eat lots of lizards, snakes, mice and small birds. A buddy used to have one stalk his bird feeder in the winter.
Lily, Very nice picture of the Red-headed Woodpecker!!
Rose, Nice shots of all your birds; love the Pileated!
Good ones Burd!
reddirtretiree - Now how cool is that! I never even suspected a RR would do something like stalking a feeder for prey. I have a chipmunk or two that like to eat off the ground with my feathered friends. I reckon a chipmunk may be on a RR's menu, too.
Hack
Love pictures, especially the wp shots.
Too many good pics to mention them all, but Burd, love the pic of the Starling, and all the iridescent colors.
Love that pileated woodpecker dellrose! Wow!
Wonder if we get them here in VA?
Yes Karen, we do have piliated woodpeckers here in eastern Virginia. I often see and hear them. They prefer the deep woods but I have seen them in the open and even saw a pair in the trees behind our house, which is in a subdivision. They make quite a racket as they fly though the woods and the other birds move out of their way.
Here is the best picture I have taken of one thus far. It was taken several years ago. I was only about 10 or 15 feet from him and I could hardly hold the camera still..

That's an excellent pic Dave!
Burn, Love your Goldfinch!
Oh my, Dave and Rose your Pileated Woodpeckers are just beautiful. I've only photographed this beauty once at our local park and can't wait to get more photos of them.
Burn, love that little wp, finches and jay!
Rose and Burd, beautiful photos as always!
Lily, glad your red head is still around!
Here's one of my Golden-crowned Sparrows.
