Daily Pics Vol. 273

Marlton, NJ

Rose1656, Great shots, I love the Pileated!

Wonderful pics guys!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Wild Rose, great close-ups.
Burn, I enjoyed all your photos, but the fluffy jay is adorable.
Adel, congrats on the new ducks.
CC, cute dove in that bath. They always look so cheerful to me.
GP, cute buntings. I just read about these beauties in my Birds and Blooms magazine. I thought it was interesting that the Indigo gets its blue coloring from the color of the sky. It's a shame the Painted have to stay in the brush to stay safe.
Hack, cute warbler and cardinal.
Dave, that snow is beautiful on your birds. Great job on the paint shop too.
Rose 1656, your pileated and cardinal are just beautiful too! Stay warm!
Nanny, glad you're still seeing the sapsucker. Great job with the wp and wren.

I still have 3 Anna's Hummingbirds that will probably stay through the winter, but they're drinking the sugar water and then quickly leaving for shelter in the trees. This isn't clear, but at least you can see the bird.

One of the many Juncos. I just read that they return to the same areas every winter. Now all I have to do is find something on each one to identify them from the others so I can see if that's true.

While I was at one end of the deck putting peanut butter in the log, these three White crowned Sparrows formed a waiting line, waiting for me to fill the nut feeder.

Duc, Those 3 White-crowned Sparrows are so cute!!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Wow! Evewryone's shots in the past two days have been great! I love the reds against the snow!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ruby-crowned Kinglet. It's a window shot, so not great, but he's too cute!

He is cute Missy and you even see the red crown!

Hack helped my ID my first Pine Warbler. Also a window shot. Too darn cold to go outside...

Thanks, Pelle.

Well, I got outside today. The birds were very active.

I must have had in excess of 200 pics to sort through. Took a long time. These represent what I thought were my best.

Here's a Brown-headed Nuthatch at the feeder.

Mourning Dove checking things out. Not often I see one perched, usually they're on the ground.

I just found out that if I re-size your pics down to 800 x 600, they up load a WHOLE LOT FASTER.

LOL. Hack. Yah, that helps. I always resize to 800 on the longest size anyway, though DG will downsize to their maximum allowed no matter what. p.s. I want your brown headed nuthatch. how cute! you are lucky.

Nice pix all!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Mrs_Ed, that nuthatch doesn't pose long at all. Oh, that reminds, me. I was inserting my 1.4x converter when I looked up and that hawk, the one I've been trying to photograph, was sitting on a limb, not 20 feet away. By the time I got my 40D back together it had flown away. I couldn't believe it! I think I could hear it laughing as it flew away!

Anyway, the birds didn't skedaddle, here's a female Cardinal.

Got me a Brown Thrasher stepping out of the shadows.

This male Cardinal's "hair" was being blown be the wind.

On this one, I had the 2x converter on, with the 70-300 zoomed all the way out. I had to manual focus and am pleased with the pic.

Yep, true! To make the bird as large as you can for posting, always best to crop the background off fairly tightly before posting.
