I hear ya Jim. I full well expect State Police to close roads if the ice gets too bad. Hopefully they will keep I-10 open for truckers....boy would that be a mess. Last time the roads iced up there were over 30 fender benders before the morning rush hour ended. Go fast and hit the brakes and skid like crazy...just no stopping some folks....grin It is still steady drizzle here....through the evening weather man says.....YUCK.
Hope you and Jo are both feeling better. Stay inside and warm and do take care of yourself.
Gypsies Shoot for Spring
Hi everyone,(I'll have to catch up later)
Plenty of snow here. Nice fluffy white stuff. About 8-10 inches so far. If wind picks up will be a mess.
Had to go to work this morning and school was canceled, so GS has been on the computer.
DH was home to watch him.
I came home to extra boys.
They decided to go to their house for awhile..yea!
DH out plowing snow now.
Hi Dixie ,Jim and Moon,
Moon, the recipe you say your DH makes for the, drop biscuit, and the method used,is exactly, the same as that of drop scones, which are very popular and wideley eaten over here:}I also love Shortbread.
Jim,I'd heard similar, but article blamed "Gas" given off by Cows,as being to blame Lol
As I live surrounded by farmland,I'm not sure if that's good or bad news:}
Moon,I bet you can't wait for your family to visit,and you're right,i do prefer minimalistic decor and my favourite colour's green:}
Dixie,have a good day too:}
JJ, glad you didn't get stuck in that snow and that you didn't have car problems. I knew you would have more snow than we have. I think we have close to 4 inches. At least your snow is light and fluffy so plowing should be easy.
Last year I read an article that China or Japan was harnessing cow gas to use for fuel!!!
JJ,I can relate to "extra boys",my younger son always seems to come home accompanied by at least 3 others :}My 2 had school cancelled yesterday, but open again today. At least they're old enough to be left whilst I'm at work.I know that if not it's causing problems for a lot of parents/grandparents.
Venice,I think the article I read about it contributing to global warming touched on that fact too,it's incredible:}
Hope you're health's improving.
You seem to have a similar depth of snow to here. The problem here though ,is that it's very slippery where it's been compacted, because it's below freezing most of the time.
At my granddaughter's school, they have After Care. Then my DIL picks her up after work at 5:00. The AC time is structured with homework and other activities. I asked my GD if she liked being at AC because I thought she might feel being left behind. But she likes it and she was excited about telling me all the things they do.
I think all schools should have it.
Well Joy I am lucky as he could go home, his dad works nights, and I have a sister right here in same town, so usually finding somewhere for him to go is not a problem.
But I know it is for a lot of parents/grandparents.
Venice the snow plows easy but its going to blow easy also.
I didn't go to my client in the country as they still didn't have their drive plowed and I got stuck in it last week. Might have to send DH out there if their son don't get at it soon.
Last week I shoveled their walk while he stayed in bed until 1. He's not a youngster either got to be at least 30.
Lets just say I love it when county/ state money gets used because kids are lazy.
He said to me " They get X amount of hours paid for so why not use them.
So I sit with the father while the mother gets hair done and son sleeps.
And then they wonder why state and county are having cutbacks..geesh
they have something like that here Venice but it's only two orthree days a week
Julian is trying to decide if he wants to do it or not..
At GD school AC they even get help with their homework. So it is not like a baby sitting service.
Venice, they have after school care similar to that,at schools here. The school my sons started at ,at 5 years old, provided it every day.The one they're at now, since age 11,also does, and in a morning too, from around 8am,until school starts at 9am.My 2 are older now and so don't need it.The only problem has been lately, that when the schools closed due to bad weather conditions,so did after school care service,I asume, although,I'm not certain on that as I don't use it any more.
I'm off to have see if I need to do anything before I can go and sit and watch TV or read a while.Almost 9pm here, work from 6 am tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a good evening, take care of yourselves
Joy
Yea they do that here to. They do homework and then have other activities they do.
Need to go clean my kitchen. Its got potting soil all over.
Talk later.
If GS doesn't hijack the computer. haha
Hi all popping in again.....will probably be here until 6p.m. today. I think that global warming stuff is a pile of poop. I tend to agree with Jim. There are too many therory's around on that subject. Hope you and wife are on the road to recovery Jim. Joy when my son was younger and still in school he all ways had a little troop of boys following him home as well. Some of them didnt know when to leave! Grin....See all later. Gone again!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who has potting soil all over the place. Trying to get it cleaned up as long as its snowing and I AM NOT GOING DRIVING IN THIS STUFF!!! Not unless its an emergency.
Cappachino any one, get it while its hot! Well I don't know where it is! Love getting senile, lost my other camera. Think the cold has moved to my brain.:-) Yeaaa Moon, I'm so pleased DD and family will visit sooner and stay awhile, I know you are excited, I am for you! No snow here yet, hope it forgets about me grin. JJ I don't know how you and Smiley and Lynnie stand it every year, guess this is a norm for you. Dixie I have you know me and Sparky don't kiss and tell so just keep guessing girl lol. Joy I don't put eggs in my bisquit dough either, just wanted you to see the picture of what we call one. Jim Global Warming is just another distraction to us while they are off causing havoc somewhere in my book.Venice you sound a lot perkyer today thats good! Marti glad you have something to do since you can't get out :-)
Well we will see in the spring girls if I get any plants out of this WS'ing mess I just made.
Wind is starting to pick up and the boys are back.
Flowers I would be a snowbird if I could afford it and didn't have grandchildren.
Look out it gets any colder and I may be spending winters with one of you..lol
I don't get my kitchen done either Moon. :(
Just haven't figured out why yet...
Watched Fox News for a while today. Guy in Alaska has made a giant face of Al Gore with a Hot Air coming out his mouth. It is called "Frozen Gore blowing Hot Air. He was invited to debate the guy on the topic of Global Warming, unfortunately Gore has scheduling conflicts. He is off flying around in his private 747 burning tons carbon fuel and talking about cow poop contaminating the atmosphere.
I saw documentary a couple of years ago about a dairy farmer who makes etheynol. He takes his cow poop and extracts the methane gas to run the equipment that makes the etheynol he is extracting from his corn crop. What is left of the corn is as high in nutritional value after the extraction, so he feeds it back to his cows so they can poop some more. That's what I call good ole American Ingenuity.
No waste there...LOL
I have a package of boneless chicken breasts in the freezer that has been in there one year. Do you think it is ok?
I have another food question.
I made vanilla instant pudding with soy milk that I always use. And I know I put in exactly 2 cups. I also put some coconut in it. It has been close to 1/2 hour and it is still sloppy! What is going on??? Any ideas? I put it in a homemade graham cracker crust and it is now in the freezer.
My recipe for homemade vanilla pudding calls for cornstarch. It thickens up realy nice and is so yummy.
This was instant pudding that does not need cooking.
yikes I 'll have to catch up in a bit.....I hope to see you guys in an hour or so!
I sent an email to jello.com and told them about my pudding disaster. So hopefully they will tell me what happened to it. I dumped it all in a bowl and mixed it up bit thinking that the crust would absorb some of the pudding. Think I will add some nuts tomorrow and make it kind of like a parfait thing.
I guess I won't know about that year old chicken until I unthaw it and see what it is like.
Venice I have a food chart on my fridge....it says chicken 9 months in the freezer, unless it's a whole chicken then it's 1 year. Unless it's packaged really well, or you repacked it with one of those food saver sysytems, it's probably freezer burned anyway.
global warming doesn't cause warmer weather, it causes more extreme weather.
it's not the smaller farmers animal poop they're talking about, it's those big corporations that have thousands of pigs or cows...need to spread those out!
Venice did you check the box to see if you accidentally used the pudding you cook instead of the instant? That's all I can figure. Although I did buy koolaid on sale once, it was packaged wrong and had the wrong directions on it....it needed only half the water. it should have been recalled. Made 2 pitchers before I figured out the problem.
Joy I also make my biscuits without eggs, sounds like Moon's recipe, and I like them with gravy.
Oh I also saw a farmer who makes pots for plants out of his animals' poop..I do believe they're called poo pots. Completely biodegradable and good for your plants, and they don't smell *grin*
It was 31 degrees when I left work tonight, which felt mild & toasty to me *grin*
Ok did I miss getting my 2 cents in on anything? ;)
Lynnie, I didn't repackage that chicken. But it was on the bottom of everything so it stayed frozen pretty well. I will defrost it tomorrow because I finished my bean soup except what I put in the freezer. I will see what it looks like and smell it and even cook a little piece to see how it smells. I hate to throw it out if it still might be ok.
Yes, I checked several times on the package and it was Instant Pudding. I wonder what info I will get from Jell-O.
Lynnie, I took the chicken out of the freezer and it does have a little freezer burn but not all of it. What do you think about cutting off the part that has freezer burn?
I found this about freezer burn and you can cut it off, but it still may be iffy.
http://www.sheknows.com/articles/6321
yea, I have heard that you can cut the freezer burned part off, too. Be careful, I don't want you getting sick again! I have tons of chicken in my freezer, if you were nearby I'd tell you to throw it out and give you some of mine lol
Venice do you always use soy milk in the pudding.
I have read it is not recommended for inatant pudding as it might not set.
Well, JJ I didn't know that! Thanks! I had some FF regular milk but it went bad because I don't use it very often. On the pudding package it didn't say to use cow's milk and not to use soymilk. I think it should be labeled like that for us who didn't know that.
Lynnie, ok! I won't mess with it and just throw it out! (But I still think it could be salvagable). I am not putting it in the trash tonight and I will look at it tomorrow. I certainly will keep your warning in mind! Whole chickens this week are 88 cents a pound so I will get one of those. I had some gound beef that smelled a bit old but not bad. I used it in some spaghetti sauce and didn't have a problem with it.
If you have tons of chickens in your freezer, how old are your chickens??
I threw the chicken out!!!! I opened the package and about 2/3 of it had freezer burn. Gone!
lol I just pulled thin sliced boneless breasts out for tomorrow, they're from Oct. You guys know how i eat!
JJ the kids & I were eating the proscuitto tonight, my husband seems ok *grin* little one loves the "Italian ham." Kid has some expensive tastes...shrimp, artichokes, now proscuitto.
venice look at the very last sentence under directions

I think it is on recipezaar.com they say if you use soymilk onlu use 1 to 1 1/2 c instead of 2

well I'm relieved you won't have a setback!
Well it's good they aren't afraid to try different foods.
but they will be high maintenance LOL
We are plain folk give us a hamburger and fries....
JJ, but that warning is not on the package! How was I suppose to know?!
Its not under the directions on the package, like it is there?
I'll go look see if I have one.
