Gypsies Shoot for Spring

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Just had to look it up.

pancetta = Italian bacon Pronunciation: pan-SHEH-tuh Notes: Pancetta is the Italian counterpart to our bacon. It's cured, but not smoked, and it's often used to give a subtle salty flavor to pasta sauces. Deli counters often carry cylinders of it, and slice it to order. Substitutes: equal parts prosciutto and salt pork OR unsmoked lean bacon OR bacon (Blanch it first in boiling water for a couple of minutes to tone down the smoky flavor.) OR prosciutto

(Zone 5b)

I got proscuitto, I LOVE proscuitto :)

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm with you Flowers, they all eat some weird stuff...
I've never seen an Italian pig, how bout you?

I don't understand how 35 outside is cold and 52 inside isn't freezing.
You guys would be running naked at my house...set on 70 all winter.
But my kitchen needs remodeled and its cold in there. If I put glasses in the cupboard wet they would be frosted in no time.

I don't like to pay the power company either but I like being cold even less..

LOL I can remember my dad starting a pan of charcoal and letting the coals turn white and putting under the trailor we lived in and under the car when the gas line froze.
One of the first things he taught me how to do when I moved into an old farm house, that and where to shoot the X husband if he didn't stop bothering me so I didn't kill him...

(Zone 5b)

kneecaps JJ?
maybe that's my Italian coming out again.

Jesup, GA

Hi All! Ohhhhh,I love biscottti, with milk or coffie. Just like a long cookie, cookie conniseur dont ya know. Flowers hope ya get your pipe unthawed. That way I'll no you've been moonlighting, new job. Grin....Venice,in hopes that you are feeling better today.

Jesup, GA

Lynnie in the south we just throw um in the swamp and let nature take care of the rest...Grin

(Zone 5b)

we don't have swamps, we have construction sites and rivers

Jesup, GA

That works as well! Grin.....Now I'm hungry....send me some food Lynnie!

Jesup, GA

Lynnie your too slow with that plate! Going to kitchen on a food hunt. Be back later.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Yea think thats what he said Lynnie, kneecaps.

Outfit ready to go Dixie...around here thats all I'd probably get is a cat!!

GS home rummaging in the kitchen so better go stop him from eating everything i site before supper, and start the homework.

Flowers put some bales of straw around that side of house.
Want me to bring over my plastic? I cover everything that fills like its leaking cold air.
Duct taped the back doorshut and covered one year, DH had to walk all the way around house from the garage..he was not a happy man...but I got a new door. :)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

What does she know, Dixie is just a Georgia Peach lol. Think we've got something going here girls, I grow apples, cherries, strawberries and plums, Dixie grows peaches, Moon can grow Watermelon and oranges , Venice can grow dirt, and JJ and Smiley can grow snowballs while Lynnie cooks it all up in Italian Style lol We could start selling produce on DG and get rich quick. Wlhat cha think about that? I get 75% and you all can split the rest.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

By the way, how do you girls make your cream sauce for carbonna?

I just went to the grocery for a few things and did a drive-up for meds. When I got home I was breathing so hard you would think that I was having an anxiety attack with sweat dipping down my face! Also, I get kind of pukey a couple hours after taking meds. I slept 9 hours last night except for a couple of coughing spells but couldn't stay awake after I got up and had breakfast. So I joined Kitty on the bed for about an hour or so.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

JJ have block underpinning just need to get problem areas scoped out and heat taped I guess. Son is on his way, know he will be glad when we get it figured out too, He was doing the same thing last year.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Right out of the jar venice..no recipe needed :)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Venice you have been very sick so will take awhile to get your strength back, Meds are probably making you tired too. Stay out of the cold until you get better don't want a re-lapse girl.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Well I'm glad it's him out there crawling around and not you..brrr

I found a draft I need to take care of before DH gets home, he don't care to much formy duct tape jobs. Guess thats what ya get when the house is over 100 yrs old. Something always falling apart.

Wish I would have lasted that long. lol

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I had to go to the grocery because I was out of tissues for one thing. I think I have gone through 5 boxes since I started to be sick on Christmas eve.

(Zone 5b)

right, take it easy Venice, I'm sure the meds are making your stomach a little sick too.

The recipe I found was for cream, eggs, parmesan cheese, mix and pour in hot dish (I think the dish is supposed to cook the eggs?) I'm not crazy about that idea, so I'll cook the angel hair pasta, cut up the proscuitto, then put the sauce ingredients in the pot while it's still on the stove. I think the recipe is still in my right click let me check...
PASTA CARBONARA

1 lb. cooked spaghetti
1/2 lb. crisp cooked bacon, crumbled
4 eggs
1/4 c. butter
1 c. Parmesan cheese
1/4 c. whipping cream
1 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 c. parsley
Pepper to taste

Let eggs, butter, cheese, whipping cream stand at room temperature for 2 hours. Then while spaghetti is cooking, mix eggs with whipping cream until thoroughly mixed. Place large oven proof dish in warm oven until hot. Drain spaghetti; remove dish from oven and place spaghetti and butter into it. Mix. Pour egg and cream mixture into spaghetti and stir until well coated. Add remaining ingredients, stir and serve immediately

(Zone 5b)

JJ what are you taping up now? lol

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Sure hope you get better soon. That is just way to long to be sick.
Just hunker down on the couch with a blanket and Lynnie will deliver some soup.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, I am not fond about that raw egg thing either. There have been so many problems with them. Bernaise sauce has raw eggs in it and Caesar salad dressing also. I use to have homemade eggnog. Not any more. Maybe Kassy can have those things with all her real fresh eggs.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

It doesn't matter JJ new or old ya still have things breaking all the time. Venice says to heck with soup she wants Pasta Carbonara. Sounds like a bunch of carbs but must admitt looks tasty. I keep the duct tape handy myself :-)

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

The kitchen window..brrr. DH says its coming through the wall from the basement( that basement wall needs replaced) not the window.

This house has really cheap brick foundation. We have replaced one wall but the other three need done and when its this cold and the wind blows across the field,BRRRR

Frosted glasses anyone?

(Zone 5b)

I read somewhere that most of the salmonella is on the outside of the shell (don't know how true that is) , I used to make my own eggnog too, it was yummy. And I always eat raw cookie dough. I've never been sick from any of it. But I think I will put the sauce on the heat for a couple of minutes! The egg gets cooked so it has a texture a little like scrambled egg, but very very fine, with the cheese mixed in.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Sounds like a fancy name for spaghetti with bacon and eggs to me...

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Mix up some mortar JJ and fill in the cracks, can put paint in it to match the colors of your room lol Then put little duct tape bows for a border.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Flowers sounds like the consistancy of curdled milk to me..what do you think?

(Zone 5b)

yeah it's a cold windy winter, too. This house is only 16 years old,so it has separate heat zones for each floor. We have baseboard heat, which I hate. Ugly baseboards.

(Zone 5b)

it's curdled EGG *grin*

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I got salmonella from eggs Lynnie about two years ago. Farmers deliver eggs to store above me and I bought some fresh eggs I thought. Didn't have dates on them. Noticed it looked a little cloudy when I put it in the pan, but man what I didn't know found out later while hugging the mode.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Mortar? I just get those cans of insulation that foam up and start blastin.

My basement looks like somethings growing out of the bricks in some spots.

All I can say is good think DH likes me or I could be on a curb somewhere one of these days..

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

No way JJ, not as long as my BW is running lol

(Zone 5b)

I got food poisoning years ago, it was the worst experience. I don't know what it was from, too many choices to pin it down. A whole bunch of us were sick. Plus I've seen some very sick people at the hospital with it, it's nothing to mess around with.

good idea with the duct tape bows, I saw pink duct tape at the hardware store, that would be right pretty.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I like my baseboard heat, but yea its ugly.
We use to have separate thermostates for the upstairs and downstairs but for some reason we don't now.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

They say if you lower an egg into a bowl of water and if it doesn't lay flat on the bottom, it is not fresh. But I am not counting on that!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Flowers you can pick me up with the BW but before we leave my house it will have a clear plastic cab on it...

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Need to get one of those old timey looking gas stoves JJ, they are cool and put out a lot of heat. Looks like old cook stoves but with logs inside.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Have to go check on the homework.
I hate making him do it right after school but if I don't I'm fighting until bedtime to get it done.

(Zone 5b)

Venice I'd rather use my big nose to see if it's fresh or not lol

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Thats cool JJ then will be protected from the rain we run into while buzzing through States.lol
