New year so all the orders that got in under 2009 don't count right? My bad, more snow more plants. Just a little one from J&P roses. Got two that will replace two that I love the flowers on but get blackspot so bad it takes all the pleasure out of having them. Will give these two own root floribunda roses a trial. Black Cherry and Honey Perfume. Anyone grow these?
The rose in the pic is 'Christopher Marlowe' and is very little trouble, for a rose that is.
What Have You Ordered 2010
good timing pat - i just sent out emails to my jm suppliers with questions on a bunch of potential suspects.
Bill it's all this snow. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. LOL Besides a lot of them have free shipping or % off if you get your order in by Feb. I did forget to mention if you order at J&P to put in 15OFF in the coupon square to get a discount on your order.
I will be looking forward to your choices of JMs.
This is what i've ordered so far in lilies from DG'er 'Mainiac' aka Ramona. She runs Faraway Flowers........
2 San Pedro

2 Starburst
http://farawayflowers.vstore.ca/product_info.php/pName/starburst
1 Hot Spot
http://farawayflowers.vstore.ca/product_info.php/pName/hot-spot
I can go back and add more at anytime, you know I will! ^_^
Oh, and 2 daylilies that I liked........"Forsyth Flaming Snow" and "Bombay Silk "
Nuttin' yet, but I'll be using my gift cert to FW soon.
I placed a tiny order with Brent and Becky for some lilies I really want before they are sold out. Miss Feya. They are 5 for 13.54 (with the 10% off for early payment), and I saw them for 10.00 each at another site!
I'm into lilies this year, so there will be more.
Avoid lillies here because of the nasty lily leaf beetles.
I haven't had them yet, and I don't understand why, since they are in Canada and Mass. Probably will soon. I have hundreds of lilies, and would be very upset to lose them.
Let us hope that they can be destroyed before they get to you.
I hope so.
My lilies are in the iris beds for the most part. Maybe spraying for the irises is getting the beetles? I have never seen one. I understand they are red?
I sent in my first 2010 order today to Garden Crossings. They had an early discount thing too.
Ligularia ‘Osiris Cafe Noir’
Heucherella ‘Sweet Tea’
Dryopteris ‘Golden Mist’
Hibiscus ‘Cranberry Crush’
Snow Day™ Surprise Exochorda ‘Niagara’ (never heard of this before)
China Chiffon™ Hibiscus ‘Bricutts’
Leucanthemum ‘Banana Cream’
I have a couple more that I am working on, but I won't send those off for a couple of more days as I am still in NYC. We are visiting our DS who is trying to furnish his small apartment and I am buying him, among other things a bed, instead of roses for my beds, so my plant fund has been nipped in the bud a bit for 2010. I had sticker shock even at the cheapest furniture stores which was worse than going to a nursery for a tree. I have a few of those on my want list, but I think they will have to wait. Mostly a Magnolia and some more Japanese Maples.
Wha, I need to follow your advice for those as you did a great selection last year. Patti
Good luck with the lily beetles Polly, I had some last year, not a lot and I didn't see damage, but I did pick them off and looked for them almost every day.
Nice selections Patti and JoAnn. I have been tempted to get more lilies If I can squeeze them in the lily section of the garden. Also put an order in at GC. Will probably send one more to them when a few things are back in stock for spring. I always think there is more room in the garden when it is covered in snow for some reason. LOL
Here is the order there so far anyway.
Hibiscus 'Peppermint Schnapps'
Hosta 'Golden Tiara'
Hydrangea 'Invincible Spirit'
Leucanthemum 'Paladin'
Lupinus 'Gallery Red'
Stokesia 'Peachie's Pick'
Clethra 'Sugartina Crystalina'
Vitis (grape) 'Nimrod'
Lily beetles are scarlet & their eggs are orange. That is why I am so peeved with plant inspectors who
d idn't catch them. Larva hold on to their poop & cover themselves with it so they won't be eaten.
It would take a lot for me to touch the awful things.
Bayer spray and Sevin occasionally to keep them out of my garden.
Oh i touch them now, the anger over what they do to my lilies overides the grotesque part!
Guess it would take surgical gloves.
Rubberized garden gloves will do.
The adults are easy to snag if you put one hand under them because their mo is to drop to the ground. The disgusting offspring I use disposable gloves, the same ones I use for gathering slugs. Hope to see less of both this season.
The only thing I can't touch is those tomato hornworms. The rest I just pick and toss in a bucket of water. Even slugs don't bother me.
My most disgusting thing is I have about 10 little water gardens for my beardless irises, and they are those plastic preforms, and the moles and mice get in them and can't get out and drown. And I hate dealing with those. But that's what men are for, LOL.
Neighbor fornd a Racoon in his bird feeder.UGGGG.
Maybe this subject needs a trhead of its own.

Pixie - I LOVE those lilies! I bought one called Salmon Star last year that was beautiful, do you have that one? I will have to look into Faraway Flowers.....
Yes I have Salmon Star and I love it!
Nice selection of roses, that 'Golden Princess' is stunning!
I have Salmon Star too, it's a beauty! A great addition to the garden.
Salmon Star looks really nice beside a purple blooming JI. ^_^
Thanks for the info, Pixie. I'll have to find one of those JIs to go with Salmon Star, LOL. Probably dark purple.
Oh nice roses. Love those gift certs.
I did check out Faraway Flowers. Okay they got me. Its all you enablers here. Pixie and JoAnn spring to mind. I was restrained though and only ordered a few.

I almost bought Santa Rosa, may go back anyways. :)

Now cut that out! LOL I have hit my budget for this month ordering. She does have a lot of beauties and it is good to know the pics don't lie.
Sorry , forgot who I was talking to for a minute......it's all those lilies, made me dizzy. ^_^
LOL I know what you mean. :)
I have not ordered anything yet for this year. Will have to wait till after my Florida trip next week before I can even think about ordering. Also have to replace the catalytic converter in my car and pay overdue excise taxes as well. Need to renew my registration by the end of Feb. Patches needs her teeth cleaned, and in March her shots will be due. Then the end of March I'm taking a trip to TX and NM to visit my 2 sisters out there with Dad. Lots of expenses coming up, so unless I hit the lottery or get extra work, then I won't be ordering much.
Oh, Celeste, I love your choices in lilies and DL's! I think I might have DL 'Forsythe Flaming Snow'. Looks like a NOID of mine that I've been trying to figure out what it is. It's very pretty! BTW, how many bulbs do you get for the price on those lilies you're ordering? I really like that Eyeliner. Very nice!
Polly, I really got into lilies this year, too. Hate spraying for the dreaded lily beetle, but those lilies are just so gorgeous it makes it all worth it. I have a great organic control I use, so I'm not worried about harming the environment.
JoAnne, your selection of lilies looks nice, too.
Karen
partially finalized one order today with davidsans japanese maples - a multi-stemmed shirazz (no one can have just one), beni komanchi, and a okagami - probably have enough left on the gift certificate for at least one more jm, possibly two or a jm and a small conifer. will decide later this spring what to add.
This storm is killing me....
