Almost New Year, last thread a bit long for downloading so here we are..Christmas decorations are all put away, time to clean so you can enjoy a coffee with your feet up, a bit of sweets and great friends...
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Visit with friends...
Thanks for the new room Betty. Good luck shopping today!
Aaaahhhhh thanks Betty! Shoot, I got a filling yesterday and it has a hook or prick or something that is rough and I keep rubbing my tongue against it and it's driving me nuts! I'll have to call the dds and ask him to file that spot down. gggrrrrrrrr
I don't remember what I read on the last thread, but have fun shopping Betty! I know you will find the deals, you always do!
Not ignoring everyone just have a lot to get done today and tomorrow for the Club Party on Friday......then maybe I
will get my life back!
Everyone hae a good day!
Happy Wednesday everyone. I'm afraid I'll only be popping in once in a while for the next few days. Norm is converting the computer from Vista back to Windows XP. We are taking our time and copying a few files that Vista won't export. I gave it a good try (one year!!!) but I just don't like it. So forgive me if I haven't given someone an answer or haven't commented on something I usually do but this is why.
Hope you all have a wonderful New Years and I'm saying prayers that next year will be a fantastic one for us all.
Love to all
Barb
Hi Norm!! I hear that Windows 7 is wonderful, I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet here at work... hhmmmmm
Greg got it for a free trial run from Microsoft, the Wind. 7, that is, he likes it. Cool graphics. Vista never got rid of the gliches I guess. I don't have many problems but one, and I was not sure if it was the Vista or the Mozilla Firefox, causing a page to load and load and fade into light blue, over and over again. grrrr!
Betty I feel for you, but you are so much of a giver, you will shoot straight to heaven and the Lord may say, "Ya done good". No, "Well done, good and faithful servant". Your in laws and that situation was a scarring event and nobody could forget it, even if you forgive, the wound is too deep.
I still have not downloaded the pictures of my monkeys from the camera. I have a problem since the Vista thing was loaded and Greg rebuilt my computer, the pictures go to some other place and it is not so zip, bang, boom now. So I dread doing it in fear that I will lose them.
Any of you have Joe Pye seeds. I am dieing to have some?
You all speak of such programs..I have outlook express..not sure with all the trouble some have that I should change...
OMG..just got in and got a call from Roger's best friend..he was with us New Years' eve and again New Years's day when we lost him..he'd been thinking of him, rarely do we speak except around Christmas...his wife, after Roger died, couldn't deal with our friendship, as with a lot of wives, they think that because your hubby has passed on you need to replace him asap...WRONG...no offence, and please don't take any, just the way it is, even with friends...sooo his call tonight meant much to be...we always update each other on our families..my kids call him Uncle Harvey..will have to call both Greg and Jeff and let them know he called...
Did go to MIL..she actually was quite pleasant..was it my visit? or was it the 5 pairs of pants she needed hemmed? no, she was in a good mood, had a lovely visit, gave her and Marg their gifts, they were thrilled...tomorrow morning I'll hem the pants and drop them off ...
Went to Rona, Home Hardware Bldg. Supplier, Home Depot and then to my favorite TimBrr Mart...
Have a few measurements to do but think I found the countertop with built in zinc..was going to get that new acrylic/marble type but will wait until I totally de-gutt the washroom..then we looked at flooring..think I've chosen which one..brought a sample home to see if I can live with it...this 16" tile is pretty much the color of the flooring that is already on the floor....not sure what to do???
Of course no trip to Midland is possible without stopping at Fabricland...got some more 'bone' for the projects I'm doing...
Dawn, couldn't you first download them on cd like at Walmart? then you could play without worrying about losing them..joe pye seed..have to check..is it a wildflower?
Barb, aren't you lucky that Norm is knowledgeable enough to work on the computer..shhhh don't tell him, lol...or is that why you have computer problems..just kidding Norm...
Crissy...think I found a kit (clothing material - velvet) to send to you for your Victorian Santa....will let you know when I can reach the box out back...
Well, I've been a good girl, lordy I think I'm all caught up with what I've promised...lots in the mail, Dec. quilt block on it's way..soooo now I can try and finish my afghan before I return to work...
enjoy your evening all...
LOL Betty, Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 are all Operating Systems, these are what your computer runs on. Outlook Express is a software 'program', just like Microsoft Office, Google Earth, antivirus programs, etc. Your computer runs with Outlook Express because your Operating System is compatible, or will allow it to run, with the Operating System you have. Without an Operating System we would all be typing programming commands into DOS (Disk Operating System.) Here are a couple of links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows
Oh Thank You Betty!! Take your time, I have all year. lol The sack of gifts doesn't have to match his suit anyway, does it? Or does it? LOL
I'm glad you had a good visit with your MIL, that's great! And your phone call! That's great too, everyone loves you Betty, some just have a hard time showing it.
Hellnzn11 I use Firefox and get the same thing, but it's worse with Explorer. I've never looked into it so I have no idea. Maybe I will tomorrow since I'm not working tomorrow! Vista may be a pain but it's nothing like ME was! Horrible blue screens all the time...
I only like Mozilla too, I like spell check since I am always applying for jobs.
Glad your mil was nice to you, I am sure it is so hard to see her and it brings back memories, good and bad too.
Sounds like your wash room is going to be as nice as the rest of the house.
Morning...
That's how computer savey I am..lol..that's why I have a son who is Director of a computer company that designs programs for the likes of IBM etc. he should take time and teach his mom..nooooo if I need something, can just call him and lay a guilt trip on him of how I worked 2 jobs to put him through schooling..lol
As you can see I'm up and at it early..thought I'd get the slacks hemmed, have a hair appt. for 8:30..old habit die hard..for about 20 years Roger and I organized New Years Eve dances, always fun but lots of work so had to get spiffied up..so, still get my hair done to sit at home and most likely be in bed by 8pm...a midnight sharp get a call from Jeff wishing me Happy New Years' and from Greg, always a race to see who calls first...it's Greg's birthday, we all try and focus on that versus the anniversary of Roger's death..
I see that it did snow last night, not much but just enough that I have to shovel..my plowman usually get here between 6:00 - 7:00..should ask him what he takes in coffee and make him one...
Will you be putting on your dancing shoes tonight?
I wanted to post a couple of pictures of the scraps bag that I made last night. It has a pocket for small stuff like a seam ripper and the small embroidery scissors that I am always looking for, as well as the bag for the thread and small fabric scraps. It doesn't have plastic on the inside of the bag, but should work okay. I made it out of some fabric that a friend gave me. I have no idea if it is 100% cotton, so I have never used it for quilting, so this seemed like the perfect project for it. I do wish I had made it slightly deeper, but everything fits on it and it looks tons better than the old dish towel that was under there before and is certainly more functional. I did put some fusible fleece that I had in there to pad it a little and used the shipping straps for the stiffness on the bag. One piece would have been too flimsy, but with the 2 pieces taped together, I think it will work out fine. Hope you guys like it.
What a great job Sheila!!! The only thing I'd be afraid of is the rotary cutter. I saw a friend cut herself with one (not toooo bad but bad enough) and they still scare me a bit. I have a bit of pegboard over my cutting area and that's where mine stays along with my rulers. I love the pockets and the convenience of what you made. Is the thread bag removable for emptying? Great job indeed!!!!
Geeee I look gorgeous..lol..new hairdo...too funny right?
Sheila, what a novel idea...were the instructions clear enough, if not tell me where I need to explain better and I'll edit...
Now aren't you the creative soul....now ME needs one like it...
And here I was looking for something to do..NOT!!!!
Doing final measurements then dropping off MIL slacks and a visit to TimBrr Mart.. decided to go for it..picking up the wood to replace the existing click flooring..who knows, perhaps by Sunday I'll have installed a new floor..why not tomorrow..lordy, you got to let this flooring breath in the house for 24 to 48 hrs....lol
Talking to Bernie and he said 'go for it sis..sure you have the smarts to do it' told him if I run into trouble, know my brother's tel.#...
Think there is a bobbin thief who lives in the house .. means I have to make another trip to Fabricland for bobbins..must remember to close my eyes so that nothing else jumps up and wants to come home with me...lol
Gab later
Barb...No worries. The rotary cutter and scissors are there for illustration purposes only. I have a 3 year old, so the rotary cutter stays with the safety on and out of reach. I have cut myself numerous times over the years. Never anything serious and usually the cut is so fine that I don't even realize that I did it until I see that I am bleeding all over my project!! LOL!
Yes, the thread bag is detachable. It is held on with velcro. I think the plastic on the inside would be a benefit because the thread would not stick to it like I suspect it will to the fabric lining on mine, but I didn't have plastic and I did have extra fabric.
Betty...I found instructions online a while back before I knew that you were making the kits. A few weeks ago, I saw a bag at a sewing store and started thinking about it. Over the holidays when I was embroidering quite a bit for gifts and had all those threads that I cut off all over the place, I pretty much finalized the decision that I needed to make one. I didn't need a pin cushion, but did need a pad for my machine, especially since I got the thread stand for Christmas and everything didn't fit well on my dish towel. I really didn't use any instructions at all, except picking up an idea here and there.
I am pleased with the outcome and especially the price which was ZERO! I just used scrap fabric, velcro, and fleece that I already had. Picked up the packing straps at work for free, so I consider that recycling!
Anyway, glad you all liked it. If anyone has any questions about how it done, let me know and I will try to explain and/or take more pictures.
See you later Betty!
I'm sitting here adding up finances and what we can cut back and all, I do not make enough. Dave was mood swinging all evening yesterday and it's stressing me out. I don't know what I'm going to do, might have to look for a better paying job, can't afford the maintenance on the car to drive there and back. I took today off for my birthday day! Woo Hoo!!!
That's really neat Sheila! Love the pockets!
I'm going to go look at Federal jobs, Dawn have you thought about looking into a job with the Feds? Dave refuses to work for any Government agency, but there are some really good paying jobs out there.
Sheila could you put a small sandwich bag in it as a liner and sort of roll it back over the top (like you were putting a plastic bag in a trash can)??? Then you just pull out the baggie and toss. Just a thought.......
Quick coffee break.... cooking is started and last of the clean up underway for tomorrow. It is forties and pouring rain...sure glad I am cooking and not riding (swimming?) tomorrow!! Didn't I plan well?!?! They say it may clear up for a few hours tonight in time for fireworks...I am not holding my breath.
Betty tell Greg we all wish him a very Happy Birthday.....and how cool, the whole world celebrates his birthday with him!!!
Break over, need to get back to work..... Happy New Year's Eve Day everyone.....
Thank you Trisha...
Well I've had quite the day and talk about changing plans in mid-stream...headed out to Midland to drop off MIL's slack, she was alone, feeling a bit down, her driveway or her decks were still covered in snow...although she said 'no/no/no' I said this ones for you Roger and did it...quite the job, big area to do..didn't kill me and I hope it brought kind thoughts for her...
So off I go to TimBrr...only to find out they close at 1:00pm because of it being New Years Eve...so there went the flooring idea...went to 3 other flooring companies..can't be hungry for money, all closed for the week..shot down again...
Went to 4 other stores, what did I buy, nothing..oh now that's not true, ended up with a floormop and 4 flameless candles, could resist the candles (I've more than I need that's for sure) but they were on sale for $2.50 each so couldn't resist, you know me with a sale..so they will go into the bin that I keep putting things in for the 'just incase I need a pressie'...
Remembered my original plan, clean the closets, throw away what I'll not use..organize my sewing notions...WELL, it's like Christmas here, the things you find...now who needs 5 rotary cutters??? guess when I couldn't find one I'd buy another..then last week I threw out a couple of blades for them..wouldn't you know I had purchased a rotary blade sharpener...the things I'm finding..talk about 'goodies'
Know what I'll be doing tonight..organizing knitting needles and crochet hooks...I've enough I'm sure to teach 100 people..I'm just shaking my head...
Then I've found programs for my sewing machine that does cutwork designs..laughing here, never been used along with many cd embroidery patterns, plastic still on them, I'm sure they are something I just had to have...
And scissors...ohhhh do I have a variety..so, keeping myself busy, rather than have my sewing in the back bedroom I brought the cabinet downstairs and it's NOT light..all the drawer towers, in the little room before going into my craft room is an area that is not finished as yet but I did when I moved in put white peg board so this is where I'll be sewing from now on..after all, all the tables in the next room are great for cutting..
Now this should take an hour or so to organize..lol
Now at this point I was laughing soooo out loud...not the same thread catcher as we've just made (making) but of a different variety..remember I bought this kit in Missouri when I was travelling with friend Barb..we chipped in to purchase the kit because we just had to have..right here it is, untouched, material and all..now if you look they used a small tube to keep theirs open...
brother....Lord help me, I've too many toys...as well found attachments for my Janome..computer programing system 'Memory Craft-Sew and Scan' pin tuck foot, pin tuck cord foot, binder foot, about 6 'make your own binder' tools...
what a find and it didn't even cost me anything....
Trisha you have a job there getting ready for your gathering tomorrow, but you did luck out since the weather is going to be bad anyway!
My goodness Betty! You are so motivated to get r done, and what a great find!
I went and got my oil changed in my car, only took 30 minutes, then went to Curves and canceled my membership since I can't afford it anymore, then came home, ate a Smart One's frozen dinner, then went out into the garage and looked at my plants that I'm overwintering in the garage, OH MY!! All of the perennials that I didn't put in the ground that are supposed to die back in the winter are still trying to grow and wilted, along with the annuals, think I lost a few plants too from lack of water. Oops!
Crissy..sounds as though you've everything under control, cutting back where you can...I'm so hoping (praying) that come 2010 Dave will hear good news..the Lord looks after us, we just have to put faith in him...
Is it warm enough in the garage for the plants? guess it doesn't get to freezing right?
Trisha, you'll be please to have all the festivities behind you..keep some energy, you've sewing to do shortly...
Yawning here, got all my needles organized, who would have thought I had about 4 bags sectioned/designated for knitting needles...the ones I couldn't match, garbage they went..just watch if I don't find them shortly..doesn't matter, I've far too many as it is..sooo many circular needles, doubles of every size, guess I find it easier to go buy then go look, but now that I'm making myself a little sewing area in the furnace room, things will change..promising myself that..let's see if it happens...
Well, if nothing else my threads are colored co-ordinated..wonder for how long..lol
back to work...
Happy New Year if you are on the East Coast Time!
I think everyone out here has gone to bed. I'm here alone and not tired.
A few of us are still around....I still have two hours to New year and am cooking for anywhere from 20 to 40 people tomorrow depending on the weather!
Wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
Tubby and Shirley...Wishing you all the best for the New Year and hope all is going well...you are in our thoughts and prayers each day.
Happy New Year West Coast!!
Happy New Year everyone...waving and blowing my noise makers...
Trisha, hope all the hard work is behind you and you can enjoy the day...
Marti, morning..so glad you popped in...
Fell asleep about 11 and woke up just minutes before midnight..girlfriend in Ireland called and chatted, then Jeff called and then Greg...slept like a baby after that..hoped I could sleep in at least until 7 but nope..here I am, playing in the craft room...
What do you all have planned for the day?
hope you all have a happy new year
Happy New Year everyone. It was a very quiet one here with snow and ice on the roads. Needless to say we stayed in and were safe. Hope this year is a blessing for all.
Good morning. I didn't go to bed til after 2 am and just now getting up. Bad girl that I am.
Its cold outside. Don't want to know the temp so haven't look.
I need a cup of tea. Rose hip tea sounds right. Be right back.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
Thank you Betty, I keep praying that something good will happen real fast, our bills, which consist of utilities and a truck payment of $300 a month, and of course food and basic living expenses, are twice as high as my paycheck. 2009 was good to us, so hopefully 2010 will end up being also. I believe that He does everything for a reason, and that company tends to treat their employees like slaves, so you know, maybe better things are to come. I'm thinking about looking for a new better paying job that requires an IT degree that has nothing to do with bookkeeping or accounting (that makes me mad that I'm doing that) with the Feds! LOL
We went outside at midnight and shot off a couple fireworks, other than that didn't do a darn thing!
Tubby and Shirley Trisha's right, all of our thoughts and prayers are with you for this new year.
Hl ALL....Nothing new..
Tubby
Hi Tubby!!!!!!
Waving Tubby, you've both been in our thoughts and prayers...thank you for posting, know even a few words can be an overwhelming task when you are not feeling the best..hopefully 2010 will bring you health...
OMG Marti, you must have had your beauty sleep with all of those hours resting...think you are getting up when I'm almost ready to lay down..lol
When we visited Crissy you were saying that your IT knowledge is lost in the field that you are working in, perhaps HE is giving you the nudge to find something more to your liking and in your field...
Barb hope you are enjoying a restful day..it's snowing here as well, can't say I've been sitting because I've cleaned and cleaned..just finished washing all the floors...you know if it weren't for the furries I'd not have to do them nearly as much..I know, gives me something to do right?
Moving slower and slower...sitting upstairs crochet and putting together my afghan as I have a row done..1/2 way mark just reached, then I come downstairs and tidy up a bit that way it's not as overwhelming..big fire tonight in the pit..mom keeps absolutely everything..so as I've something in hand I think 'am I my mother's daughter' garbage it goes...
Have a nice folding table and a few other furniture items..going to put them at the roadside in the morning, more people travelling in hopes someone wants them...
Know I'll be at Home Depot when it opens...got the flyer this morning advertising cupboards..could use at least 1 .. going to measure another area and if it would fit I'll pick up 2..tidy up some more...lol
Thats the nice thing about being retired. I can sleep when I feel like it and be up whenever I want. I'm living on Indian time for the winter. Once spring hits I'll be up gardening during the day. Got to get ALOT of seeds planted.
Betty I forgot that we discussed that specific subject. My job should require an Associates in Accounting, or even a Bookkeeping Certificate, certainly Not a Bachelor's in IT. That's exactly what I'm thinking Betty.
LOL Marti I have a few years left before that happens!
Well the boys are out playing I see, cutting down trees Yay! and talking about my flowerbed that has been in progress for almost a year now! One of the projects Dave wants to do while he's looking for work.
Waving,
Time to call it a night..
Good Lord willing, we'll gab tomorrow...
