beautiful

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

actually had to fertilize them last year to get them to color up.. they looked so blah when they first bloomed

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Do you fertilize when you plant bulbs?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes I did.. those actually returned even though I didn't think they would.. it was the 2nd year they bloomed.. now I know to put some fert on them before they bloom

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I use Bulb Boost when I plant and fertilize with Bulb Tone, when they emerge in the spring and after thay finish blooming.
Its the second year for tulips but the lilies love the routine and I had huge thick stems on the 6 footers last summer.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice clematis pic, Victor!

Golden Chain trees are so lovely.

Pretty geranium, Jo Ann.

Lovely tulips Allison. I don't plant them anymore, as they don't return well for me. I mainly do daffs and hyacinths. But I love them.

Thanks Jo!

Which plant are you referring to, the poppies? They are gorgeous. Are they the ones from seed?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the poppies!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Not from seed, none of my seeds started last spring made it after june.
That was my last attempt
These are Oriental Poppies ,perennials and fussy about being handled.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

We have one huge orange one that has been here about 20 years. But I have high hopes for the seeds you sent me Jo Ann. Out of all of those I'm sure some will take, even if I screwed up.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The annuals are easy. They do take a few years before they really impress with quantity and blooms.
Perennials like the ones in my pic,are hard to transplant, they usually die for me.
The Perens do go dormant in summer, then in fall they put up crowns that are green all winter, even now at 7* they are shrivvled but green and will fill out when warm temps return.

i am going to stick with the redbud theme - eastern redbud "stick" from arbor society about 10 years ago

Is that the purple tree? What is its name? I'd like to get one of those.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes it is, that is clem josephine in front - eastern redbud is the name - you should check out forest pansy redbud - same spring color as here with puple heart shaped leaves for the rest of the season - if you can only have one that is the one to get.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Lots of great shots and pretty flowers to chase the cold away. We will need them today.
From the lime green of new oak leaves, a russian japanese iris of deep purple,a fantastic pink reflection,to a glowing rose we come to a new thread. More beauties here as well. A clem and a golden chain. Then a magical geranium,a mix of perfectly pink tulips,a group shot of s. iris, poppies that always make me think of wizard of oz, and a lovely bunch of violas followed by another gorgeous redbud. All really welcomed on a cold and windy day when spring seems far away.
My pic for today is the arbor end of the garden path in early May.

Thanks wha. I think I may have that one. I bought it last summer and it was puny and small. By the time I got it, it was just enough time for it to get established and then go dormant. I didnt know they flowered purple like that. Now I'll be looking forward to see what it does this year. Its a pansy too. Thanks for posting that.

Love the arbor and walkway.Nice place to sit and contemplate.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Very nice walkway.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

jada they grow fast - depending on how old it is you may have to wait a year or two for flowers - you can tell my looking for buds on the branches, they will be in small clusters

love your paths patti

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Thanks wha! I just love a purple flower.I like the leaf shape too. There was one near my school I admired. It was huge and pruned to a wonderful shape. When I found mine it was on sale, looked half dead and ready for plant heaven. But, the price was right and I wanted one bad, so I had a tree friend come and plant it and prune it the right way.It started looking much better and thriving. I hope it grows up to look like yours. Now I really can't wait till Spring!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have a forest pansy in sick bay myself - he will move it in the spring although it will not ever be in a prime spot in the yard - they like it on the dry side and mine was sitting in a puddle whole tree was dead or dying - now it has grown new branches lower on the truck - will take a pruning miracle and several years to resurrect it - it will be beside my fire pit to the side of the yard.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

guess youve got your work cut out for you LOL

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

wha, if mine could survive I'm sure yours will. New branches is a good sign. you are a good tree daddy, so I'm sure the new spot will suit it fine.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

this spring will be the test - i'm guessing it is ok though - just misshapen

(Zone 5b)

I have a redbud, it flowered the first year and is doing well. It's not the forest pansy one, just a regular one, on sale. The leaves are so big and glossy after the pretty flowers.
