Blossombuddy - when I looked at your photo, first I said to myself I didn't know cucumbers could have pink flowers, then I said to myself - those are daylilies! After looking more closely, I could see the cucumbers on the fence ^_^

My Marketmore have put on lots of leaves, but no flowers as yet.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Honeybee...

Gotcha! LOL! I was sposed to poke those cukes in the cans in the ground a week ago, but with all the rain I did not get to them so they are in pots now latched onto the fence and that daylily which I wish I knew what it was was sposed to get yanked out of there.. Owell.. the cukes seem happy, Im happy and so please do not let me forget to fertileze those cukes now!

Om gonna be using Super Thrive and later Chicke poo tea

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes, Blossombuddy, you got me good ^_^

I put fertilizer down when I set the cucumber seeds. Only one seed failed to sprout, so that was good. They won't get more fertilizer until the first cucs are about picking size.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh God, its deformed! LOL! It tried to wrap its sorry self arounf the fence panel. good thing I caught it before it got too big! LOL!

Its the first Burpless for me!

Blossombuddy - no worries, it'll taste just like it should. My Marketmore cucumbers have started to bloom. No female flowers yet, but they should come soon. I had to squish a few cucumber beetles this morning. This is the first year these little beasties have shown up - they are on the beans, too.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

My first Marketmore!! It looks a bit skinny if you ask me, but hey, I'm sure it'll taste good!

stephanie - it looks good from here ^_^

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks! This is the first time I've grown these so I really have no idea what they're supposed to look like.

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

stephanie - I take my cue from the ones in the supermarket and don't let mine getting any bigger than those.

Well, actually, some do get bigger 'cause they grow so darned fast! When that happens they go into the compost bin.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

You compare homegrown with super market, Oh, my gosh!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, the newbers are looking better than that first "curlie"!

man, I wish I would get a bunch! Im loving eating them! Beats chocolate! ha!

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

I have cucumber beetles this year, both spotted and striped! They mostly hang-out within the squash blossoms, so after I get home from work, I've been plucking off the male blossoms and squishing the tenants. If they see/feel me coming, they drop to the ground.

I'm hoping some good bug will eat their larvae.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh, dont tell me their are cucumber bugs that will hang with the squash.. I just started getting zuke babies.. ! So far I have only seen one Japanese beetle and a green worm with neither living to tell their tales.

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

O, dear - that was a typo! I should have said "hang out in the cucumber blossoms"
(smack me!)

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL! Dont fell bag... every time I type the word hanging it comes haning for some reason...think me keyboard has had a few laughter droppings spilt thar! LOL!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

This year's yield so far: 3 eaten right out of the garden, 1 big bowl of slicers, 6 pints of kosher dill spears, 2 quarts of big hamburger dill slices, 5 pints of small hamburger dill slices, 1 butter tub of refrigerator sweet pickles that was a failed experiment (shriveled up got soft and disgusting), 8 cukes given away at work and 2 'oopses' for the compost bin.

Growing Diva (slicer), Diamant and Cool Breeze

Just planted fall crop of Diamant

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Fall cukes? Oh my.. need to get seed!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey, yano, I think Im going to join you in the fall cukes.. If I can get some seed I think I will put a few seeds in my existing patch and as teh opld vines croak, the new vines can take their place. Well, its a thought anyway.,. gotta get the seed.

Ok, started a new thread for any takers.. Its called COOL FALL VEGGIE GARDENS FOR 2010 - WHOSE IN!!

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1115881/

GO! But come back!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I am growing a new to me cucumber this year called Babylon. I love it. The plants are beautiful and tough, the cukes are long and straight with tender skin and very small seed cavity even when they get a little "mature."
I planted Diva, but the seeds didn't germinate very well.
Spinosad helps control cucumber beetles, but the best control is with beneficial nematodes because they live underground as larvae.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

looks liek Im gonna have to poke more seed in the pots.. I got messy watering and splattered the babies.. ooopS!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, heres hte adults...! These are actually small... couple before them were 5 inches longer and very yummy! Burpless cukes they are!

NICE HARVEST!!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Our harvest on Wed. was 2 bushel of slicer cucumber, mostly Fan Fare, & 6 4 gallon pails of pickling cucumbers. Sold all of them yesterday!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Good job!!

Here, were still on the vine.. slow, but yummy!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We missed this one. Guess we'll harvest seeds from it.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

And just how does one steal the seeds pout of a pickle??? Never tried doing that before! LOL!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know, but I would guess that you cut it in half, scoop out the part with the seeds, rinse them until that mushy part is gone, then let them dry.

Carmel, IN(Zone 5b)

Well, my 2nd year with growing cukes in an EB and trellising them up the arbor of my swing worked pretty well. The only potential problem is that the cukes (2 Lemon, 2 Marketmore) way outgrew the trellis and doubled over and are now growing upwards again. I think I need a taller arbor!

So far, we've harvested a couple of dozen lemon cukes, and about 8 Marketmore. Many more still on the vine and tons of flowers.

The lemon cuke plants grow like crazy, don't they?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Even with 10 straight days of 100º+ temps, the White Wonder cukes keep on going! This morning I found these 3 growing near each other and counted at least 4 more growing at other places along the vines.

I also noticed that the spider mites have settled in on the Marketmore cukes. :( I'm not happy about that, but we'll spray tonight and maybe every night until they're gone!

What do the White Wonder cukes taste like Stephanie? Are they mild like the lemon cukes?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The skins are very tough, but they taste very good. They make good pickles, too.
