Coffee Break #26 - Feeling like winter!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Hope it gets better from here Bill!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Mcaffee & Norton slow down pc, too large a 'footprint', (memory resident prgms which prioritize themselves and use too much memory), I stopped using them yrs ago. They also add tons of garbage to the system's registry file.

When I signed on to Comcast I got Mcaffee free......... That didnt last long as it does slow the comp down. I got a free cheap program. AVG. My theory is if you dont open whatever it is, you wont get a virus.

A month or so ago I downloaded IE8 - what a mistake that was. I could hear the computer grinding trying to go places on the net. It got removed and I went back to 7 and no problems now.

The biggest gain was a free progam that checks your registry/spyware and other files.(from a trusted site)! I ran the program and the comp took off with a flying speed.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I use avg free also--Which free registry / spyware program do you use--I'm not totally happy with my Spy Sweeper

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

they did install avg on here - i had been using skyboot and had deleted avg - really need to speak with the guys that worked on this one - i have a list of the stuff my friend on the other side of the world claimed to have found.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

BUMMER wha :( Hope it all gets fixed without too much more hassle. Sofonisba we'll be in AZ over the holidays. It is a little nippy here for the NMers but very sunny and luvly for us Northerners ^_^ Got the giggles when my buddy in Albuquerque was very confused saying that I sound like I'm from NY. He didn't know I grew up in the east. More confusing is that DH's prairie speak sounds Dakotian here. Santa Fe is so beautiful!!!! Having WAY too much fun! Also having a hoot of a time overriding the 'wireless connection' in the laptop so I can use dialup and beam up from the road. Hoping to meet a techieguy to help somewhere. (I'm on roybird's puter now but we're off south later today).

I have used CNET.com for years. They have always been good and you can get just about anything free there. Granted they are temporary to use but they do the trick. Go there to the downloads and type in computer speed.

Thanks! ^_^

Ouch, Bill.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Love my Mac.

Dnut, I love Santa Fe too. It's soooo beautiful out there. My mother lives about 10 miles south of the Colorado border, 7500 feet up. It's very cold. I'm really looking forward to her hot tub. Gee, I hope she has it turned on. Better call.

Gorgeous Harper! Your mom must love it there.

Joyce, congrats on getting your degree. I looked and looked and couldn't see what you were getting a degree in? I have nightmares about going back to school.

Our grandaughter Jenna made her run time for her black belt, today. 15:59. One of her friends at karate's father said he would run with Jenna to set the pace, and would fling her over the finish line if needed to make it. That was the biggest hurdle to getting her black belt, her best time before was over 17, and she ran on snow and ice today. One of the kids came in at 14 something.

Jenna might still not get her belt, there are other components, but it's looking good, and she will be really proud to be the youngest in the dojo to get it.

Here's Jenna in June instructing the class how to stretch.

Congratulations Jenna on making it below 16!! I hope she gets her black belt. Looks like she really deserves it.

Yes, my mother loves it in New Mexico. She gushes about it. She's only been there since 2002. Before that, she lived in NJ where we all grew up. We were in a very pretty part of NJ, but NM is breathtaking.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Jenna does deserve it, I think. But she is still only 7, and 7 year olds sometimes act like 7 year olds. So does she have the discipline needed? I don't know. Certainly she has the ability, but I'm not sure about the mind set yet. We will be happy with whatever their decision is. Jenna has won quite a few competitions in her age category for her routines. They don't do much sparring at that age, but she back other kids right into the corner in seconds.

It is breathtaking, Harper. Do you get to visit often?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Bill, we picked up some nasty malware through a flash player fan site Holly visited. We had to have a friend, who's a college IT administrator clean up the mess. Mcafee couldn't help us at all, and wouldn't run or update. I had to uninstall and reinstall it after we got the PC back.
Victory, I helped a friend make "fire-backs" for his freestanding wood stove to make it safer and reflect the radiant heat off of the outside wall and a nearby cabinet. We took ceramic tile board and painted the finish side and put those stick on, 12x12 mirror tiles on the other side. Mounted on spacers about an inch off the wall, they worked like a charm.
Our son's entertainment center sits fairly close to his wood and coal stove and he was worried the buildup of radiant heat may be damaging. We mounted a full length (door back) mirror on the end of his center, it looks good, and there is little or no heat behind the mirror, even though it's hot to the touch. Ric

I get to visit about once a year. Here's the reason I love to visit lately: My nieces, Lilya and Camile

Harper,Such cuties! They must miss their Auntie:-)That is beautiful country.

Bill, I hope your computer troubles turn out to be something simple to fix. Good luck. Theres a computer forum here too that might help.

Polly,Jenna looks like a master already.I'm getting sore just looking at that move:-) I'm sure they will decide in her favor. My degree was in English, minor in Communication. Some of the classes were nightmares :-)

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Harper, the little one looks like pictures I've seen of you. They are adorable.

College English would be a nightmare for me. What field do you wish to work in? I got my degree in 1976, and have never taken a class since. I am considering a photography class, but that hardly counts.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O sigh that is the perfect combo of kidlings and mountains Harper. Finally worked out the kinks of roadie laptopitis YIPEE!!! Have found 3.5 acres with a barn. O of coursely I'm not excited about it. Ya that's my story..... Gotta work on my ruse for the real estate agent. Ya ho hum not excited at all... ya ho hum....

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

LOL. Thats wonderful! Its so xciting finding a home you like. Didnt know you were moving. Yes, play bored until you get em where you want em :-)

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Are you looking for a new place, D'Nut? In your area, or moving away?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

cowboys just beat the now "once beaten" saints - do not have NFL network and had to go to espn.com and "watch" a blog and hope real updates would be posted instead of fans from each side dissing each other - had never done that before - all is well that ends well!!

Let it snow!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Snowbird place. November to March. Since half my life will be lived down here to me it's a home. Although Northern AZ and NM is beautiful it was very devoid of fauna although rich in flora and kick butt mountains IMPO. Now we're travelling south so happy to see the birds and farms. We're meandering around with all doors open and of course I'm trying to be very ho hum but man o man it is gorgeous here. ps if you are a lurking real estate agent, I am totally disinterested in this area and you will have to whooo me and sway me for sure!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Can't wait to see what places tickles you fancy the most!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Wha you are definitely torturing my DH who is NFL starved on the road. A devoidness of satelite is causing trauma.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

So funny D-nut.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Who knew flowerjen?!? Good thing I figured out the laptopitis which methinks has avoided DH NFL major crisis. He can now beam it in. WHEW!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I added some new videos.. we added a few more things since the last ones I posted (the photos are separating the new & old ones)

I started taking flaxseed. Did research on it and saw that the best results are obtained when you grind the seed fresh. Otherwise, it loses most of its benefits. Many good things about it. Lowers cholesterol (my BIL's went down dramatically with only that change), has omega 3 and is a great source of fiber. Tastes nice - like wheat germ.
