Today's Weather in Your Garden - 58

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

14 degrees here

thx for the offer louise, fortunately we have lots of trails right here in town for both. your walls are safe:) i have been thinking about the seat we tried to make for your plants and it has been bothering me - it is bothering me because it is out of scale - i will need to stop by and fix it this spring.

use to love to downhill ski

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

27°, windchill 16°, wind NW19mph, clear skies

January's usually the coldest month here.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - usually the last week of January is the coldest part of the year on average. Similarly, the end of July is the hottest.

South Hamilton, MA

25° windy too cold to go out as far as I am concerned. UPS just left large 'iris' box from WA. It had traveled there from here. wonder what DD #2 put in it. she had told us that it was returning.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

30° and flurrying off and on. Sometimes it's so hard it looks like fog. Heading out to irisMA's after work tomorrow.

Bill - explain more about why you think the bench is out of scale? Curious minds (Hank's) want to know. It is special to me just because you made it. But we'd love to have you come back in the spring, scale correction or not. LOL

Nice and cool down here. Hank even put the heat on yesterday! I wouldn't have gone that far, but we are both "feeling poorly" and he thought it was too cool in the house. I promptly turned it off this morning, donned gloves and went to the chilly river for a walk. Gotta shape up for flying solo with the puppies tomorrow morning while Hank goes golfing. Morning is their good sane time. Afternoon is a different scene, especially if one "tries" (and fails) taking both for a walk together. Not wise.

Thomaston, CT

Was nice enough to walk over the dam today----I bring one dog at a time, Louise----I would be dragged who knows where by the 2 of them----they're never sane! The wind abated some, but not much----wish I could ski again, but having had a broken hip, I'm super cautious now.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

18 now going up to 25.. burrr

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

10 °F going up to 25 today.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

It was -2° right before sunrise. c-c-c-c-c-old!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

18 here too. Cold!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

22°, windchill 4°, wind W 9mph

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it was about 12 here this moring.

louise as for the bench - it sits up to high and the stones it sits on are to big for the bench - two things can be done - dig the holes deeper for the stones it sits on (and put some crushed stone a couple feet down so the stones do not tip from frost heaves) - or get a bigger slab over there and set the stones like i mentioned - i think a bigger slab (wider and slightly longer) is the way to go - if we did that we might be able to sit the second slab right on the first one and it would work out nice. you have plenty of slabs to work with there

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Given the slight difference in height between Louise and Hank, I suggest his and hers benches!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

funny - it is actually for potted plants

Thomaston, CT

It is up to 25 here now---lovely if you're a polar bear---but it's just about time to hit the trail with the dogs.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

21 °F here, waiting for the snow to come, it's in inevitable.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Actually, Bill, I like the idea that someone visiting me at Cuppatea can sit on the bench. I have only my one red antique rocker out on its porch, and I wanted a place for someone else visiting to sit. Your bench is perfect for that!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i am glad you like it as is:) when are you back so we can make it perfect? :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Merry Christmas, all! 32 - same warning here for tonight. Guests will not be happy about that.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Partly cloudy, 35º. Mostly cloudy later this afternoon. Freezing drizzle this evening and a chance of freezing drizzle mixing with snow after midnight. The usual wintery mix, as they say, tomorrow turning to mostly rain on Sunday with temps near 50º. Temp drops again early next week and the whole mixed mess continues. Yuck.

Hope everyone is having a great day. I figure at least a 5 pound gain by the time it is over. Merry Christmas all!
