Natural Home and Garden Remedys Part 2

Delhi, LA

Got two cherry tomatoes is all. A real bust. What a humbling experience. Just when I was feeling like a super gardener. Got some great savoy cabbage, onions, leaf lettuce and collards.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Sounds like good pickins for New Years Dinner Jim. I get one of the little maters save it for me.

(Zone 5b)

shoot Jim if you need help with all that food I'll bring my bunch.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Next time read the directions instead of just looking at the pictures Jim...LOL

Delhi, LA

I'm not real sure I knew how to read then.

Come on Lynnie. I promise there will be enough.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Long time since a post gonna crank up again for the New Year. Hope everyone is safe and snug through the cold snaps and snow that is hitting the States hard. Hang in there Spring is not that far off!

Good for acid reflux: baking soda and water (about two or three teaspoons per small glass.

For a splinter- put elmers glue on it and let dry then take tape and remove.

For ear infections a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in ear canal.

(Zone 5b)

my mother used to make us drink baking soda in water blech! I think it was more payback than medicinal.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

DH still does that. Ditto blech.

Bing cherry juice will help arthritis pain. Tart cherries contain anthocyanin compounds that inhibit enzymes called COX-1 and COX-2 yadda.. yadda.. So eat your bing cherries and drink tart cherry juice daily if you have arthritis pain.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Cherries are also good for gout relief.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

one of my favorites could eat them every day. Be glad when cherry tree grows some so I can pick and eat!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

mmm .... cherries! ... DH can't eat them, give him a raspy allergic feeling in his throat.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Passion Flower extract is good for anxiety or nerves gives sedative response.

Black Cohosh or Sage is good for menapause ( hot flashes).

Delhi, LA

At my age anything that is associated with passion "gives me anxiety attacks." No passion flowers for me, please.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Get that excited do ya? GRIN

Delhi, LA

I know a knock-out of a joke that would fit right here but it would just get censored. Ever notice you can always remember the dirty jokes from 30 years ago but not the funny clean one you heard yesterday?

(Zone 5b)

Jim email it to Moon so she can tell us.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

If you are not sure what to eat, think bright! Tomatoes, peppers, carrots, cabage ect.

Pumkin Seeds helps incontinence, high in magnesium.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

(Zone 5b)

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Thank You! It has been soooo beautiful! Still c-c-cold, but beautiful.

(Zone 5b)

it's only a few weeks till Spring..that's what I keep telling myself anyway.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hope you had a really nice day, JuneyBug. I just keep telling myself this too shall pass...but not nearly fast enough....grin

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Me too! But this crazy-cold that the whole earth is gripped in! It is 30 degrees colder than normal here. There too, huh? We have had snow on the ground for 3 - 4 weeks and record setting cold weather (and these Koreans and Chinese have been keeping records for thousands of years) My coworkers tell me that for the last few years we had very short winters and this winter we are paying for it. Oh, but by April & May, this will all be a distant memory and we will be enjoying the gardens again! 12+ weeks...I can do that...

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

When I consider the alternative, I am like you...I can wait, but sure hope for a short one....grin We do get freezes here usually each winter, but the temp is usually 30 to 32 degrees and only lasts a couple hours. This foolishness has been down in the teens and lasting 12 to 14 hours. I can hear my poor plants shivering out there....just hope they can hang on....grin. My yard is brown dotted with every color sheet or tarp available right now....

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

They had on the news this AM that they were swimming at midnight in Melbourne trying to cool off. Record setting heat.

Used to be that talking about the weather was ho-hum, not anymore.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Hear that Moon? your daughter may not want to leave Australia with that kind of weather going on. Don't tell her about ours, let it be a surprise :-)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

She grew up here Flowers. But she does not like the cold anymore than I do. The last time they came it was in December.....that was a shock to their systems....grin. Hoping our weather is more near normal when they get here in February.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Upholstery shampoo:
¼ to ½ cup baking soda
2 cups water
2 cups vinegar
Mix well.
Soft brush or sponge, absorbent rags for final buffing to get the fabric to lay right
Do not soak the upholstery too much or it will not dry well. Repeat in a few days if needed.

This cleaned the upholstery & carpet in my DH's $500 leaky/stinky car well enough that even I can ride in it with the windows closed! ^_^

I have a lady in my church who is having trouble with varicose ulcers on her leg. Know what they are treating them with? Honey. How about them apples?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Anti-microbial honey has been used to treat skin disorders for quite a while, Jim. They used to use Milk Sugar to treat bed sores and ulcers. I think it was a mix of Milk of Magnesia and sugar or honey. Of course I found a link for more info....grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Speaking of MoM, I read yesterday in The People's Pharmacy that MoM is good to use as a deodorant.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Ouch that has to hurt Jim, never heard of varicose ulcers before. Juney gonna try that upholstry cleaner, man does my car need it! Smiley must of missed something what is MoM?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Milk of Magnesia MoM. . Flowers, they usually start when someone with bad varicose veins gets a small sore, injury or bite on the lower part of the leg....the blood circulation is so bad that the damage doesn't heal and an ulcer forms.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Moon, Duh if I had thought long enough might have figured that one out lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Np problemo Buddy.

PERTH, Australia

I've used Medihoney to get rid of an "age spot" on my leg. It took about three months of keeping the spot covered with bandaids as the Medihoney is sticky, but I can't even see where the spot used to be. I'm using it on another one at the moment. I'll keep you posted. http://www.pulsepharmacy.com.au/Product/Medihoney-Antibacterial-Honey-Barrier-50g.aspx

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Cool MargaretK, wonder if it will help wrinkles? What is necrotic tissue? I use shea butter for rough callused spots on fingers and for chapped lips, works better than chapstick.
