Christmas Poetry Contest
Thenk yah... Thenk yah...
That was the year DS asked Santa for 'The Little Mermaid'. I didn't know Disney put movies in the vault... He got 'Beauty and The Beast'.
By the way, he used to watch Lawrence Welk before his nap on the weekend.
That is too cute, Smiley....grin
nice job Smiley!
Jim, the power of imagination! I had to go back & re-read that, didn't understand what you meant at first.
Good job smiley!!!
thanks to all. I was thinking of all there is to do yet, gotta stop to smell the roses! er, uh, write the poems..
OK , here is my version of the 12 days of Christmas. Now just remember I'm no poet just a comedian lol
Twelve Days of Christmas
On the 12th day of Christmas my grandkids gave to me
One sugar cookie in a fir treeee
Two boogers on the wall
Three toothless grins
Four booster seats a swithching
Five Potty Breaks for Meeee
Six movies playing
Seven hearts a praying
Eight of them are staying
Nine Stockings hanging
Ten Hot Chocolates waiting
Eleven cousins giggling
Twelve happy faces sharing Christmas fun in Mamaws T-Peeee.
I Love your 12 days Flowers....they all sound so happy.
Yay Flowers!
Well I posted to yall, where did it go LOL
Anyway Thanks yall, can't rush a poet, this is what ya get :-)
This one just sings of loving grandkids and having fun....good on you Mamaw....grin
You wouldn't know I love them would you? lol
It doesn't really show .....MUCH.
that was great Flowers!
Bravo Flowers....
those are some lucky grandkids to have you for their Mamaw
Ok...here's my addition to the collection. Hope you all like it.
Sitting by the Christmas tree, the house is finally quiet.
I reminisce of gifts we made, of cookies and the diet.
The scene before me tells the tale of children pleased as punch.
The paper, boxes, bows, and string...and even someone's lunch.
But the snowflakes were cut, the paper chains made,
The cookies were baked and the fridge they did raid.
A trail of mittens and coats, galoshes and hats
Leads from the back door mudroom mats.
The cocoa was drank, the flannels put on.
Blankets piled high, the kids were all gone.
Now for the fun, excitement and joy,
As we try out each and every toy.
They get to see them all in the morning.
For now it's just us, and they thought we were boring!
The tooting train whistle and talking doll baby,
Sshhh...did you hear that? Is that them, well maybe!
Quick hide the doll house, the truck and the bat!
We stash all the loot and see....that darned cat!
nice one jar617! must have been midnight inspiration lol
HAH! HAH! HAH! That's great, jar617.

on the holiest of days
I hope my burning candle tells you

aww Lynnie.... that's a beautiful poem!
Big Grin Lynn...that is sweet.
Good Job Lynnie.....I'm sure I will find you, you got cookies....
Love it Lynnie such a sweet thought Thanks!
Ohhhhh, love the poems yall. Warms my little heart. Yeah I remember all of those times putting this and that together. Do yall remember Castle Greyskull? And skeletor, beastman, My son was into all of that when he was little, and loved GI Joes and the hellicoptors, all the equiptment that came along with them. I got my daughter one of those anatomically correct baby dolls one Christmas. Came with little wrist band, and little belly button bandaged like a new born. Ahhhh, walking down memory lane.
I wish we could walk down memory lane and pick up all those things we used to have and sell them on e-Bay....those old toys are going for a fortune now!
But I still remember when GI Joe was full size and Barbie started having bendable legs...now she's complete with a tan and everything. I still think kids nowadays missed out on some great toys.....chemistry sets and microscopes were a prized possession at my house when I was a kid. Or board games the family actually sat down and played together........Or that record player that had a projector built in so you could slide the card up and change the images as the story was read....talk about old school video! lol
my kids' Barbies are permanently on tiptoe.
The biggest disappointment for me is the easy bake oven. I LOVED mine as a kid and now they look like microwaves but work like pizza ovens. So not fun!
I agree Lynnie and Jar! They dont make them like they used to. And some of the toy collectors are paying a fortune for the older toys! If we had only stopped to think...we all could have made some money. Son had all of that star wars stuff when it first came out...some of that is going for mucho bucks now! Oh well, thats how the mop flops. Grin..It woulda, coulda, been nice.
Just got former step GD (long story) an easybake oven....the only thing right about it was the price....grin. Lynn, got a pair of the Tarantula for the step GS's...hoping these work...grin He-man and She-ra and battlecats...oh my
DH has a friend whose mom actually bought 2 of everything back in the 60's. He was a Beatles and Bond collector - had a fortune in stuff. But he also had every game (NRFB) and toy around. Not exaggerating. Toughest move DH ever did, helping him move into a house. (All boy toys, of course)
Every time we went over his house, I would wander around and say "we had one of those!" , felix-the-cat board game.. he had a closet of games.
We eventually lost touch and is was heartbreaking to learn he had to sell most of his stuff due to medical & legal complications.
Guess the only up side to that was that he had a source of cash on hand. My dad got into a mood to clean (mom almost fainted from surprise) and threw out 4 boxes of comic books and kid's mystery series books....ca 1956-1969....don't like to think about the value that hit the burnpile....sigh
remember that Seinfeld episode where they use the easy bake oven with the 30 year old food mixes? lol
my MIL has stuff....oh boy does she have stuff.
my mom gave away all my barbies. the only thing that saves THAT is she gave them to a co-worker who's daughter didn't have much, and she couldn't buy her any.
Comic books? DH saved the mondo box from his mom's garbage a few years back.. I researched them all, cataloged them and bought a book. Surprisingly, if they're not special ones (1st in a series, etc..) they're only worth a few bucks apiece. But we still have them, you never know. Since they had been in a box, they're all in excellent condition.
Makes you wonder how much stuff ends in landfills or burnpiles.
