Trina,
I bet that is messy, I will still love to have one... and the oleander will make someone very ill (might even kill the dog). So I'm told, its very potent.
OMG!! My Christmas Cactus is actually blooming!!!
Yes, Nerium Oleander is extremely toxic, even contact with the foliage can cause skin irritation (take it from one who has three large Oleanders growing in the yard!
Trina: I hope you are resting and not over-doing, so that your back can recuperate. I know too well about moving large plants. I even have difficulty using a hand truck anymore so I try to let my DH do all the heavy lifting and moving ... sometimes though he isn't around when I decide to change the location of a particular plant ... and I sometimes end up paying for it with bruises and back pain!
I grew many Ficus benjamina's over the years and only have one variegated tree left now. The F. benjamina (and maybe other Ficus?) don't seem to like to be moved from location to location. I can move mine two feet and it will begin to lose it's leaves ... what a mess it makes! I am fortunate though as mine stays out on the deck year round so I can just leave the leaves to sweep up when I'm in the mood, LOL! I have a large Ficus alii and also a Ficus lyrata that don't seem to mind being moved from one spot to another but the benjamina despises being moved a foot! I also remember one winter when one of my benjamina's lost every single leaf. I thought it was dead but it re-sprouted as soon as the weather warmed up. Ficus grow as landscape plants in the southern part of the state but I'd be afraid to plant them in the ground this far north, I don't think they'd survive if we had frost or a freeze.
Yes I know the oleanders are toxic, that's why the small ones are way up where puppy face can't get them and the great big one is completely sournded with cacti with nasty needles so she can't get it...I think I dread moving that one more than the ficus cause it's bigger
Daisylovin, Congratulations girl that is a beautiful little cactus! Looks like more blooms to come too. Just keep it watered now and out of drafts and you will get to see the other blooms as they emerge. I'm dancing for ya!
