Offical Muffler Sulking Section (and other Various Chatter)

Lodi, United States

Sparkly is lovely--I think.

Have you noticed how at least two of the Canadians on this thread are entranced by sparkly? Do you think it is a national trait--or am I drawing from too small a sampling pool?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I do believe Catscan wins the chicken ID prize (great applause from all the sulkers). In particular, based on this picture:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brown_Leghorn_hen,_Ohio.jpg

combined with the white egg trait, I do believe it's a match!

Thank you!! She came with this guy, who is a broiler rooster. Poor thing has trouble walking due to his immense size. They don't usually live very long but I'll do my best for him.

lol....I would say there is definitely a connection, however small the pool. Whether it be a national sparkly proclivity or more of a natural northern defense mechanism sort of thing inclining those from colder climes to sparklyitis in compensation for the lack of actual warmth...hmmm...it bears thought. And perhaps further study...

Clarkson, KY

Claire -I let broilers get too big...they ended up with horribly stinky green livers. Free ranged.

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

My internet was down since late last night (one of the fun things about living in the country, you can't rely on anything power related) But, its finally back wooo hooo!!! seems I've missed out on a lot of craziness, and for the record, I am a Canadian who doesn't like sparkly things...just colourless and warm LOL!

Lodi, United States

Ah! An outlier--very important in statistical analysis....

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Batflower - how do you feel about "natural" coloured wools that come from sheep, like the sort of oatmeal greys and browns? Or do you only prefer true black and true white?

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

"Natural" coloured wools are great. I think I prefer them to true black and white. they're still colourless but softer....

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

MissJestr You can tell Billy that I have 4 inches or one hand done on his muffler only 5 more to go. And yes I know what a Hand is, love horses but can not have one of those either. I hope I can do thagt much each day and maybe I will have it ready before Christmas LOL

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

Another outlier from Darkest Southern NJ; I like sparkly and bright and fringe-y. But I'll be happy with whatever as long as it's warm! Here's the hat it's meant to go with.... it matches my new bright green chore jacket, assuming it's like the picture. I think that hat beats Moxie's, really I do! But check out how warm those earflaps look! Of course, my GD wouldn't be seen dead with me if I tried to wear it when she was around. But I don't insist on green - whatever the Scarf Fairies decide will be way cool.

Ah...you've a yellowy-green sort of vibe going there! Rather than my own bluey-green sorta vibe...

Thumbnail by grownut
Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

That's really pretty, too. If the scarf doesn't match it will be cherished nonetheless! I actually thought of getting a hat with those colors, but I couldn't find one with proper flaps therein.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Wren, Billy will be so happy when I tell him, he passed out while we were shopping, I was able to get the bumble bee transformer he wanted and paid for since he was asleep. he remained asleep the whole ride home, so I put him in his bed..

I am the plain jane type, no fringe, I agree with Catscan it tends to get covered with stuff, like hay and grains and various bushes it might fly on.. not to mention zippers.

I was going to go by the knitting section at walmart, but with him sleeping I cut the trip short

Cmoxon, I like the guy, he is kind of Snowman looking. Is his foot turned out? kind of looks like it.. Congrats on the pair... The hat is something so me that I would wear, I am sure I would be in great company....

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, I am a latecomer...
I don't do scarves, mufflers, or cowls, however one defines them as they always end up full of hay bits and it drives me nutz... When I'm not getting the fuzz stuck in my zipper or trying to pull the ends out of the donkey's mouths.
But I love a good sulk... can I join the sulk just for the practice? I mean, a birdie hasn't perched on my lower lip in just ages.

Oh, and if you want CMoxon's attention you've got to just whisper
P**** P**
She will come a runnin', and then she will swoon and you can quickly truss her up and get her to write those fancy rule thingies.

I made the most marvelously decadent Chocolate Espresso P**** P** a couple of weeks ago...

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Tell Billy that I have 6 inches done. It is a combination of greens and browns. I also crocheted one of my hairs into it. So part of me will go with it. I am hoping to get at least 4 inches done each day. It is thick so it will be warm.

Clarkson, KY

Lovely plot, Jay!!

Wren ---surely you did that on purpose?! I ALWAYS knit or crochet in a hair or two or. And count afterwards to see how many I intentionally added...erm...

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Plot me no plots, I ain't dead yet.... I am simply conveying useful information to them what might want to make use of it.

Would you like me to list the ingredients of said delectable, delicious, desirable Chocolate Espresso P**** P**?

Wren, I do believe the witches of old used to weave their hair into things to convey spells upon the wearer.... I'm guessing you are a white witch and putting lots and lots of bucketloads of protection spells into Billy's NWD... any hatchling bulldogger can sure use 'em! =0)

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Oh wren, that is so fabulous that a piece of you is coming with it... And his uncle Bo (my only son) is in the army, 10 years 3 tours will make a career out of it, will be proud that Billy is wearing Camo colors.. So will Billy.. I am telling him about it, and he said "Thank you" , and when I told him the colors he said "That would be perfect" I think so too, it will match his carhartt jacket... What joy it will bring for many years to come...

Jay please do come join us sulkers, it is good to have you and your wonderful knowledge.. Yes please do list the ingredients of said delectable delicious desireable Chocolate Espresso P*** P***, I will add it to the Moxon Divine Flan for the holidays... I will call it... Jayryunen DDD Chocolate Espresso P** P**

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes I am on the side of the "white" and yes I did put it in on purpose and it was not easy as my hairs are only about 4 inches long. thought about putting in one of Andre's but as he has not get a speck of watchdog instinct but a ton of mischief and I do not think y'all need that. so I did not add on of his on purpose. Thought there may be a number that get in there on there own. LOL

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

wren107, dmail me your address & i will see what i can find. Do you want all free patterns? Just scarves? just cowls?

I leave for a few hours & miss so much. I really need to pay closer attention. Another problem with fringe.. Chickens think it looks edible. I do have a few with fringe on them. I'm always picking hay & such grassy items out of them... or sticky little kid food items.... or it goes up my nose & tickles it till i sneeze.

I just spent the afternoon making Dutch meatballs & Dutch veggie soup. :) the house smells soooo good. I was so proud of my dutch friend.. the cats all lined up in the kitchen meowing at her & she just kept cooking while talking to them. Most people don't understand my furry little friends need to be vocal & in on EVERYTHING that's happening.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I am definitely sparkley. Sparkley snow, sparkley yarnage, me and my sparkley aura ^_^ I can crotchetty little pompom thingys. Methinks I could do a luvly sparkley scarf with pompom thingys for someone. ok I've been waiting everso long for everyone to realize that mufflers are for vehiculars and not peoples. I'm not sure it is safe to have a muffler near your head what with all the fumes and gaseous substances hanging about, and it's probably much more dangereux in the barn with the flocks and beasts :O That is just my personal reasoning about the muffler thing

Lodi, United States

Dahlia, dear--shall we get together and knit/crochet an auto? It would be very green...and you could festoon it with sparkly pom poms. Detroit has obviously lost its way....

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL nice dahlianut! Sparkly snow is great! I love the snow & the way the Christmas lights look casting pretty lights all over it. Someone just gave me 3 skeins of white yarn with a silver thread thru it. I have this really simple knitted fingerless glove pattern that the girls want. I think It will make great sparkly snowish looking gloves.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

I thought a muffler was what you put your hands in when they got cold...?

OK, for the Moxon bait... I mean, DDD Chocolate Espresso P**** P**, first you need...

A crust! In a 9" pie plate, baked in a 400ºF oven for 5 min.

Oh look, an empty crust... what shall we do with it? Gosh...

Clarkson, KY

Only if the back has fallen off or rusted out, Jay. And you have to be very careful of the fumes, as Dahl'ing explicated. Actually the hand thing -I believe that's a muff.

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

I think you could trap any number of us with that bait, Jayryunen! Me for starters....It sounds wonderful! All my favorite things.

Clarkson, KY

lolol...And what would poor dear do with about 15 trussed chickenheads, I wonder....

Lodi, United States

I think Moxon responds more forcefully to 'P-thud Pie'.

I think the hand warming device is more commonly referred to as a "muff"--short for....."muffler"!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG I fortell a p-THUNK coming from Mount IA. Dear Catscan I bet we could too make a car ^_^ I can make all the wheely and turny parts which will save you from the dreaded and complex turns called ? (I forgot cuz it was so scarey I mindwiped it). But you will have to make the dashboard part cuz dashboards make me nervous with all the funky weird stuff they have going on.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Hey, I wondered what happened to that Great Pyr who used to chase my car... much more useful as a muffler... HWD

Now, in that poor lonely empty pie shell, I think I shall put 1 1/3 C P-thud halves... prettily, artfully, deftly arranged in a becoming circular pattern to dazzle the eye...

{I'm not sure there are enough adjectives to draw this project out til the 14th...}

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Moxon just had a little frisson travel up the spine regarding the mention of the pie in question, and is having trouble maintaining consciousness.

I am very interested in the green sparkly pompom automobile. Remember, my aura was entirely and wholly green, all 12 points worth. Yes, indeedy.

Here is a start....

Wherefore a group has been formed or created, and further wherein said group shall be herein known as the "Chicken Heads Insisting on Crocheted & Knitted Scarves Sulk" hereinafter referred to as CHICKSS, and wherein said CHICKSS have banded together in common purpose and action, the following rules shall apply.
Rule 1. The CHICKSS shall allow membership of any member in good standing, wherein said member desires a crocheted or knitted scarf, and wherein said member plays by the rules.
Subpart A: Should such member as has been admitted to CHICKSS not be desirous of a crocheted or knitted scarf, acceptable substitutes include cowls, muffs, mufflers, shrugs, neck warmers, and other similar forms of attire.
Subpart A1: In the event that a member wishes none of the items, but wishes to join for the solidarity of the CHICKSS movement, said member shall give good reason why they do not wish such an item, and be admitted upon approval of a quorum of the members. This being necessary to prevent interlopers from the dangerous and insidious "knitted and crocheted fanny pack wearers" group, and also the "crocheted and knitted bikini supporters" group, from which CHICKSS wishes to remain entirely unaffiliated.
Subpart A2: It is to be recognized that a muffler is also a vehicular component in many parts of the world. CHICKSS does not recommend the wrapping of vehicular components around the neck for warmth, nor for any other reasonable purpose.

(I'll have to continue later)

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

oo is it a lovely chocolate pie shell or a plain one?

CHICKSS... I like this. :)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OUTSTANDING! Can we have a sub-sub-part that "members may or may not, at whimsy, contribute non-desirous crochetty and knitted anomolies (just in case me and Catscan make a car, we wouldn't want to be kicked out).

Lodi, United States

See, I told you "P-thud" would work.

Moxon seems in rare form--I hope none of this shows up on her final exams.....

I do think there needs to be a date established for the close of registration--registrants may continue to provide information regarding personal preferences, but after ???? no further sulkers expectant of neck ornamentation whether functional, decorative or both, may append their requests to the established order.

Dahlianut and I, of course, reserve the right to develop a very green, pom pom covered, knitted and crocheted (as dictated by the physical requirements of the project) sparkly, spangly vehicle. If not, we will separate from the group and form the DG Union of Automotive Needleworkers.

Dahlia....that's "Catscan and I," not "me and Catscan" but yes, I will incorporate your suggested revision, except I will spell it "anomalies" to be legally correct and all.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Noper dear Claire. If I was in charge of the dashboard it would be 'Catscan and I' but she needs to hide behind 'me' cuz she is doing the scarey dashboard part AND 'I and Catscan' is just too funky weird to say. Have I told you about my dahlianut dictionary that I'm compiling? It's very sensical ^_^

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Well, grey, I like a non-chocolate crust as a sort of counterpoint to the filling, but I don't believe there are any LAWS regarding such matters, so it would be up to you.

By the by, tonight I am making CANNOT BE SPOKEN IN THE PRESENCE OF MINORS cake... just to prepare the palette (oopsie... that should be palate.. been tasting the batter) for the pie.

I'm not sure I'm a member in good standing... I kinda lean to one side... ???

Now that we have the shell properly enhanced... or shall we re-arrange the little nutlings to read CHICKSS?

In a small bowl beat
4 eggs
1 TBL espresso powder (or Folger's Instant if that's what you've got in the cupboard, like me).
Let stand 10 minutes, beating occassionally to dissolve powder.

Lodi, United States

Yes, Claire--dahlianut is providing cover for my poor spelling so that I can work uninterrupted by your accurate but picayune criticisms.

I believe her "Dictionary of the Pseudo-English Language According to the Wisdom of the Nut" will be a bestseller on Amazon next Christmas. I know I have pre-ordered a dozen for all my friends. Six each.

Rule 2 CHICKSS, while not generally being an overly formal organization, recognizes the need for a date established for the close of registration. Accordingly, registrants may continue to provide information regarding personal preferences, but after December 18, 2009, no further sulkers expectant of neck ornamentation whether functional, decorative or both, may append their requests to the established order.

Subsubpart B47It is envisioned that the FaceBook page of Moxon may be suitable for broader discussions.
