two squares, a horse shoe and fill in the middle....you don't need credit Lynn....ya have the smarts....
need suggestions for brightening up this area
Lynnie you don't want me over there, its taken me 7 years to get where I am and just now starting to see results.
Ok Lynnie, I want to see some digging going on and pictures in the spring!
but it's snowing!
I don't care, get out there and draw pictures of plants in the snow so you can arrange them where ya want them. I'll send ya some spray paint!
I see the man in the right window, bottom portion, second pane. Creepy!
Egads! It's Randolph Scott!....grin I actually do see the reflection....different light source than when I first viewed it. Gee Lynnie, that is even more special than Elvis! lol
Hey Grantman how goes it?
Hey Jean! Not bad here, thanks. How about you? I've been so busy and have been neglecting my daily DG viewing - but I'm getting back into the swing of things! I have some major planting and walkway building in my sights for the next few months, so I'm sure I will be here a lot asking tons of questions! I just started a thread asking about my poor, tiny mango tree...hopefully someone can help! Good to "see" you all again!
Good to see you here also. Yup, this is the time to do all the hardscape and prep work....take care and good luck with the mango.
Hi Grantman, wondered where you got to. So glad someone else sees the cute face in the window lol
no it's Clint Eastwood...what is so creepy about Clint Eastwood....do ya feel lucky punk?
Grantman I need suggestions for groundcovers, not creepy men.
Are you sure Lynnie? On second thought he kinda looks like Audie Murphy....grin A great American hero right in your window....smile
Reminds me of Butch Cassidy but nevermind he is not helping us get plants in Lynnies spot.
Haha wish I could help, Lynnie. I'm not at all familiar with plants in your zone, but hopefully someone else can help!
Het Grant, have you noticed the zone designations on the rest of usLOL
ok I'm starting to see the problem here...this is why my yard looks the way it does!
LOL...good thought Lynnie...grin
Yeah Jean you're close to my zone but know much more than I on other zones! It was 90 degrees here yesterday...something is wrong! :)
Yeah, something is very wrong...it isn't 90 degrees HERE....lol
Not really, I just read a lot and google zones a lot.....Google is my friend....smile
ak google what would be PERFECT there *grin*
You guys are silly! It's not a person, it's that dog that was in the backyard on that thread somewhere..... over there....
Lynnie, did you give up on the daylily idea? They are fast becoming my favorite plant. I just divided some this year, really took a hatchet to them, or could give you tons of free ones. but I do love daylilies and there's so much variety out there.
No Smiley, i didn't give up...i was thinking a few daylillies planted amongst the perfect groundcover. Which is....
All that stuff that came up when I googled...lol
leaning toward ajuga reptans....right now anyway.
There are a few new cultivars of the ajuga reptans....It is such a pretty plant.
Just type ajuga in the search box and it will show you what they carry here.

I have purple thyme for ground cover and dragon's blood sedum and I love them both. I have only been gardening for a few years now but it seems so far that my thyme has more winter interest than the sedum. In my area both need very little attention so they make for great ground covers. I have a question though can you still use the thyme for cooking if you plant it with bulb plants?
another member showed me a pic of voodoo sedum, I liked that too.
I can not see why you should not be able to use your thyme even if it is planted with bulbs. You use the leaves and I know of no reason why bulbs would have any effect on the thyme leaves.
Here is info on Sedum spurium 'voodoo'

Lynnie keep in mind if you want to try dragons blood sedum I have a ton of it and the yellow sedum if Spring ever gets here.
So howl is that not true...someone once told me never to mix bulbs with fruit and veggies even though onions and garlic are bulbs. They don't admit some kind of toxin or something? Because I would love to plant daffodils in my veggie garden. So it won't be a bland in the year spring.
So long as you are not going to try to eat the daffodils, it is safe. The toxic quality of the daffodil bulb will not spread to the plants. Plus, they may even help keep some pests away. You can always add marigolds when the dafs are finished blooming and continue with a flower border around your herb/veggie bed

thanks JJ I do love all the sedums, so I'll definitely keep that in mind! It's a big area so as Moon says I can put more than one thing in there...maybe use dragons blood sedum to outline Clint's face and hat then use the yellow sedum and ajuga for his eyes, nose & mouth....hahaha kidding I could never pull that off.
It would definitely have to be a free form design....
Clint...an abstract tribute....done completely in ground covers....grin
I like Clint, but I think my favorite is Robert Deniro...ever see him in Cape Fear? That man can ACT.
I agree, he's a wonderful actor. I love him in comedies, 'Meet the Parents' is hysterical.
Sedums and som daylilies. Lots of sedums and stonecrops of different colors and heights. They grow much faster too. Ice plants? Didn't check to see if the winter hardy ones will grow there. Good spread, mine bloomed all summer and into the fall.
deb
a friend told me ice plant (which I love btw) won't take any foot traffic, and there will be kids running through there.
maybe I can some ice plant somewhere else.
ice plant? must google. what's that?
