Debra - Is this photo of Crimson Rambler? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7425146 That photo is a perfect, and I DO mean PERFECT photo of how beautiful I. purpureas are! Wonderful shot you got there! Was that early Spring or Summer, do you remember? The colors are so vivid! Nice one!
Nicole - You will definitely have to take lots of photos this year! I want to see how the vines from the swap do. There is a variety of colorful blooms, large solid and variegated leaves, and some like the setosa (from Debra) and the Alamo Vine (from me) will mix it up very nicely! :-) Spring should prove to be a very busy time on this forum! Hee, hee ...
Group Seed Swap Part #3
Lovely rambler Debra.
belated holiday greetings, ya'll =) i've been a real bear up here in the mountains, hibernating, with all this cold weather. we keep having light snows but we've had lots of brrrrrr cold temps. (11 and 12 the last two nights) i've had this nasty upper respitory infection and absolutely worthless since the day after Christmas.. a relapse from a relapse, and i am SO ready to get it behind me. ive been anti-social to everyone..not just my DG friends and threads. i'm on steroids now, so i'm reallly grumpy =). i've not been quilting, knitting sewing. nuttin...just me and my blankie and the remote control.
but, it's a new year!!! and it's time to start WinterSowing. that means SPRING is around the corner. ( ha ha, winter has just started and i'm already wishing for Spring ) i love the pictures but i just realized how many containers I need to round up for MGs alone.....we need to have a container swap, LOL.
i started packing seeds today...i'm making labels next. i hope i'm not the last one.
stay warm.
Hey Phyllis! So sorry to hear how sick you've been. Nothing worse than being sick in the middle of winter. {{{hugs}}}
But you are right ... let's all hope that 2010 is a great year for growing plants ... especially MGs! :-)
And no! ... you are not the last one. Not to worry. Doesn't matter what order they arrive in, just as long as they arrive. I think you are really going to like all the seeds you'll be receiving in this swap! It's going to be a very, very nice selection! You'll have enough to grow some MGs over at your dad's home, too! :-) I am sure he will get a big kick out of any you share with him. And of course ... all the neighbors will be drooling ... ;-)
Hi Phyllis, I hope you are staying warm and dry.
Becky, that was from late Spring up there those are always the first to arrive.
does anyone know anything about "tassel flower"? (Asteraceae (ass-ter-AY-see-ee) (Info)
Genus: Emilia )
this spring, I ordered seeds for it from a catalog and was simply amazed at this gorgeous, dainty plant with little red blooms. well, I saved seeds in the fall, then tonight when i was trying to separate seeds/stems, there's like a puff of cotton in the middle and i dont know what to do. maybe i wasnt supposed to pull it apart.

I d-mailed Becky, but maybe one of you can help me, in case she doesn't see this soon. I can't find her address to get my seeds out. My post office is open until 7pm tonight, so, I'm hoping to get them out today.
Thanks,
Deb
i need her addy too
OK I just dmail you with Becky's mailing address.
Oh thanks, Nicole! I appreciate you giving them my address!
I fell today and I (hope) sprained my ankle. I am going to wait to see if the swelling goes down in a couple of days. I'd get it x-rayed, but it will cost me a small fortune (lousy insurance), so will wait to see if the ankle gets better after a couple of days with my foot up and ice on it. So stupid! If not, will have to go get an x-ray if it appears I have broken something. I have weak ankles and every few years I sprain one of them and find myself laid up temporarily! I don't know if I slipped or tripped, but it happened in a split second, so I've been in the recliner all day with my foot up! (sigh) Thank goodness I was able to find a substitute for work on short notice! :-)
I received LiliMerci's seeds today! She sent two nice MG cultivars. (See first post.) :-) :-)
Hey Becky, so sorry to hear about your fall. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Helena
Thanks, Helena! My foot is feeling a lot better today.
Ironically, my middle son, sprained his ankle yesterday, too, playing basketball with some of his friends. We are both hobbling around. LOL! Only he is heading over to Orlando with a group of people to watch a good friend run the Disney marathon in the freezing cold. KIDS!!! Crazy that they are! LOL! He'll be limping around over there! Oh boy! lol
oh dear Becky, plz be careful and take care of yourself. Get well quick!
Thanks, Debra! I plan to watch my step. ;-)
Take it easy Becky. We have alot of ice from that small amount of snow on Thursday night. It hasn't gotten past 25 in the past few days and my driveway is slippery.
My son has a friend that is running in that Orlando race today. They left Thursday night to travel there.
Oh cool! My son's friend (a young lady friend) is running tomorrow (Sunday). It's supposed to be a very cold morning when she has to run. She is home on Winter break from the Naval Academy and will be leaving tomorrow afternoon to go back to below freezing temps, so she won't be coming back with her family and my son tomorrow when they return.
I received Dee's seeds today! :-) Check first post to see what she sent! One more week left gang and then I will be sending them out to everyone! :-) Whoo hoo! :-)
mine will go out monday. missed post office today. dang new hours. i didnt get the seeds i wanted to do but do have some so hopefully you all will get a nice set of mgs. i am sending in a mixed batch so suprises with them. open pollenated so who knows.
ouch Becky...be careful. two other friends and i all fell this week too but no one got hurt. just our pride ;) at least snow is padded.
ive been snowed in since last thursday. talk about a crabby hermit. i knitted a warm hat for ME. thats my only accomplishment.
we really didnt get much snow but with temps in the 20s and lows of 8-12, it's just hanging on...my side road is still bad. (I have to go up the mountain then wind down a treacherous hillside to get into town) but i am going to the drugstore and PO today. i got on to make sure I had Beckys address too =)
stay warm all......this too shall pass
Phyllis - Be very, very careful driving in icy conditions ... ESPECIALLY up and down a mountain!!! Yikes! That's enough to scare me indoors for the winter! LOL! Seriously though ... be extra cautious on the road as well as walking outdoors.
I am home from work today. Decided to wait one more day before going back to work. Still sore, but I'm walking on that leg/foot. :-) Tomorrow will be the real test! ;-) Stay warm everyone and watch your step!
Becky, I've come down the hill sideways a few times so thats why I dont break my neck going in anymore. and trust me, there's lots more hills and mountains worse than mine up here! (they call mine 'Big Ridge')
anywho...more snow due tonight. I'm glad MY envie is in the mail =)
Hey Phyllis - You are sending shivers down my spine just talking about going down the hill sideways! YOU be CAREFUL!!!! I'll be sure to let you know when I get your seeds. :-)
Gang - The end of this swap is fast approaching, so I hope everyone who hasn't yet sent their seeds will do so promptly! We've certainly gotten a nice selection of seeds and this is going to be a fun growing season this year for everyone participating! A really nice collection of different MG seeds! Whoo hoo! ;-)
You be careful up there in them mountains.
We thinking about you down here in the lower lands.
awww, that was in my early days of driving in the snow. i did exactly what my dad told me NOT to do...i hit the brakes. and hard. and a fence post kept from me from going over the bank. but i am better now, honest! and there was gravel on the road today. i am more dangerous walking than driving
now, if I just had a mule to ride, LOL. =)
guys, as a newbie with only my first 'saved' seeds, I'm really thankful to get in on this trade. Becky got me started last year and it was such a thrill for me to watch from the kitchen window as my JMG grew last year. a BIG thanks to Becky for taking this trade on! now we all just need to THINK SPRING
cheers, phyllis
Want me to lease you one?? Garantee, he will get you were you want to go but hang on,cause that boy can travel. He is a travelling mule. Old Charley, (not old he's 9) will get you there andyou'd look good too. He is a pretty boy.
I received Phyllis's seeds today! Great job packing and labeling them! :-) See first post for what she sent. She sent about 10 mixed JMG seeds per pack, so plenty to enjoy per participant! :-)
LOL! About Old Charley getting you up and down the hill, Phyllis! And looking good doing so, as well! LOL!
I received Marie's seeds today! She sent several nice species of MGs. I am not sure what is in the "Mixed" packet. Maybe she will give us a clue? (Hint, hint!) :-)
they are totally mixed. some japanese some nils some of these and some of that. i threw alot together over the years from my own some falling out of packs(one big package of torn packs from japan) so anything is possible out of the mixed seeds. i think the lighter colored ones are blue silk though. open pollinated. but we shall see what you all get. me too as sowing my mixed batch in new bed this spring so we will see.
glad they arrived safe.
I am so excited! Can not wait!
i posted this on a swap thread i just got my box of seeds from and posting it here to say thank you to all who donated seeds for this swap as its my chance to start over. my laundry room caught fire last night and lost my seed stashes and stuff. so i will post what i wrote there and get off as theres another round of poeple in the house and im lost on who is who now.
i want to say thanks everyone for the seeds. i am about as tired as one can get right now. i have so many people here right now. insurance electricians u name it.
last night my added on laundry room caught fire. lost my seed stash and clothes and a pantry of food . dont know what else yet minor stuff considering how bad it could of been.
the investigator says it started in the wall due to faulty wiring that area didnt have insulation in it yet and investigator said if it did we wouldnt of made it. my room is right next to the new laundry room.now im worndering like investigator is new room new wiring new stuff how did it catch on fire.
the rest of the house is fine. had to have new wiring in bedroom and new walls. but that stuff can be rebuilt.
my daughter and i cant. i woke around 1 am to smoke and this awful smell. i couldnt see where antything was coming from checked attic door was cold ran outside nothing smoke out window. got daughetr out of bed out of house threw breaker on outside pole( guy told me that probably saved the main part of the house.) and called 911
i tried to lay down for a bit but cant sleep eevn though been up almost 48 now. my neighbors bought over lnch today and will bring dinner. my kitchen is on laundry room circuits so right now no kitchen which means no ncooking.
anyone know how to get burnt smell out of air? plan to take a few pics when i can see for myself where fired started at. just in case. im numb.
i cant think of the what iffs. they would drive me crazy if i did.
i just wanted to say thanks for my piggy box. at least it was in living room and i still have seeds to plant.
i will post pic of where fire started at when i can get in there some time to night. im tired and numb and just dont get it. and the tear down isnt even begun because where fire started messed up wall to my room and aint even see that damage yet. i could lost everything last night. its starting to hit me.
Thank God, you all got outside safe and the piggy seeds were safe. They probably won't start tearing down til the insurance is o.k.'d
I hope it is. Bless you for letting us know.
Charleen and the Longears
(((()))) hugs and nuzzles.
yea insurance comes monday. everyone leaving for the night. firefighters assure me its safe to sleep in bedroom tonight.
yea piggy swap seeds safe and glad for it as now i need them more then ever.
im scared keep checking to make sure no smoke. i assume its normal but its not gonna be easy.
im tired havent been this tired since daughter was a baby. hehe
Marie - Oh my! So very sorry to hear about your fire. Do keep us posted! Glad that neither you nor your daughter were hurt! Angels were watching over you! {{{Hugs}}}
You'll get plenty of seeds from this swap, believe me! :-)
I received Deb (Momcat)'s seeds today. See what she sent in first post. More wonderful species and cultivars of MGs! :-)
Judith (Revclaus) and Elsa will not be in the swap afterall. Judith has had some life changing events that happened in her life and Elsa did not have a good harvest of MG seeds in time for the swap. So I will be randomly dividing up their bag of seeds amongst all participants.
I WILL be sending BOTH of them some seeds for this year's growing season from my harvest of seeds from 2009, so they will be getting some nice cultivars, too, even it they are not a part of this group seed swap. :-)
Mittsy will be getting with me sometime this weekend to bring her seeds for the swap, so there are 16 participants. :-) The seeds should go out in the mail on Tuesday. I'll let everyone know for sure and will have confirmation numbers for each person, except Eliz (Evr). (I don't think I can send mail delivery confirmation to Canada.)
Marie, so glad you and daughter are safe. Could have
been disastrous. Had you're share of bad luck lately.
Becky please send my seeds along with yours to Judith and Elsa. I don't need any extra that's for sure!!
imzadi
i have plenty of seeds to share with you,if you will give me an idea of what you had i will try my best to send them to you,i have seeds that i didnt plant last year and some from this year and seeds i bought plmk i would love to help you ok? need your addy as well
Ronnie - Will do. Thanks! :-)
Marie I am so glad you and your family were not harmed. Seeds can be replaced, you and family can not. Thank God there was no loss of life there.Prayers for you and yours during this trying time.
Becky, send any extra seeds to the two who didn't get to make the swap from me please. Thanks.
and thank goodness that you are able to continue to live in the house too! Angels were watching over you. seeds ARE important to us DG'ers, arent they? like our family.
I only used half of my seeds if anyone needs more. they were pretty even if I didnt know their names. i mean, i know they were I.nils.
Becky, maybe if they dont have seeds to send, they can send a SASE to you? and that will save postage for you.
