Coffee Break #24 - One month to Christmas!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No problem, Louise. Been buying from them for years.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I don't send Christmas cards but I keep a Christmas card list so I can stroke people off it when they've been naughty. I learned that from Santa.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Not a bad idea! - good way to save on stamps! lol!

Maria, I'm pretty sure that Anton was Austrian.. My brother insists on being Opa to his grandchildren.

It's one of my dreams to visit Vienna - the birthplace of Johann Strauss and so many other people and things. I'll get there someday - maybe at Christmas. :-)

Gosh, I've never been to Everson (officially - I may have passed through), either. The next time you're here, you must head to Leavenworth, WA. http://www.leavenworth.org/modules/pages/index.php?pageid=1

We had so much snow here last year that I'm toying with the idea of sending some cards out this year - just to remind people that I'm still here and to show off. Snow makes everything look so lovely!

I love to hear your childhood stories Maria! it sounds like you had a wonderful childhood up to a certain point. You are a very fascinating person, and tell wonderful stories that are very readable.

I could be perfectly happy living in the Lee Valley store. I got the idea about the tooth bear from Martha Stewart:

Maria, I always love reading about your stories.

I am exhausted.. been changing light strings on our christmas decorations ..presents.. deer and things that went out last year.. I have to say the led lights are soo much better than the old style... even though it was a pain.. I might just change them all for next year

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Big chore onewish but worth it methinks. They are better. We had it easy this year as we only did the trees and house front as we are travelling. I miss the Christmas Fairy and the 3 Bears though :(

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I've been seeing some of the Led lights this year...not sure if I like them....the color seems a bit bluish to me.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you have to watch what color it says on the box... pure white, cool white, and warm white... if you can find pure white they are the best.. I think the cool is bluer and the warm is yellower

this is a nice site to see the difference

Jada, I'm making aprons for 2 neices, skate guards for a nephew and a tote for the other niece. It's fun to customize things when I can.

How nice Jumper! Those are the kinds of gifts I like to get. I'm sure they will love them.

Wow. Those are great pictures!

Katie, how fare is it from Everson to where you live?. It looks your town has a great German x-mas celebration. I hope you will get to Vienna one of these days, the cultural aspects of that city will amaze you.

It's a little under 100 miles straight north from me to Everson.

And then it's a little under 100 miles east from me to Leavenworth, the little "Bavarian" city. Apparently there is a "Christmas" train from Seattle to Leavenworth - lots of singing, etc on the train. I will do that one year when Christmas is my own - take the train, stay the weekend, do some shopping and enjoy the snow. We had lots of snow here last year, but it was a once-in-100-years event.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Sounds like fun Katie, I'd do the same thing if I had the opportunity. When you walk out of my friends house there is Mt. Baker in the east, so beautiful and looking to the north the Canadian Cascades, he only lives a few miles from the border.
BTW My sister's name is Katerina, we call her Kati.

Dahlia, I enjoyed see the eagles, just wonderful as every thing is in the animal kingdom. Thanks for guiding me there. I see them often when on a visit in Washington.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I think my favorite thing is having mountains nearby. And, of course, the trees . . . I saw an eagle in a tree when I was on my way to work yesterday on the bus entering the city. Much of the Seattle area was originally marsh and wetlands and there are lots of birds still making their homes in the corners . . .

I have a lot of bird ornaments on my Christmas tree---they make my life bearable in the winter, coming to the feeder---but I'm also looking forward to the Florida birds!

For our first Christmas we ordered decoration from what was called then the Sears&Roebuck catalog, a huge heavy book.
At that time they offered German glass decoration that were left over from before the war and would not be sold during. We bought lots of them many of them were birds, some had tails with silk feathers. All were used through the years but after my husband died I gave all of them to my daughters and grandson, I know they will treasure them.

This is one of my daughter's tree this year, most of them are the old decorations

Yes, those are old, and beautiful decorations. I will get pictures of mine when I bring them out. I love those old ornaments.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Beautiful tree. And so nice that you preserved the old ornaments for your kids and grandkids to have.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very pretty tree Maria!
