Coffee Break #24 - One month to Christmas!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oops - sorry Phoebe!

I'm a Nikon person but both are great.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tiger just issued a pseudo-admission and apology. Typical scandalspeak - referred to 'transgressions' and letting his family down.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Don't be sorry Victor, you just helping it get more hits! ^_^

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you Victor and Bill. I should have asked here in the first place, with all the great photographers on this forum. I am a beginner, though, so maybe the Rebel would be good for me. I sure wish we had a photography class in the area.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Polly, check into you local area High School, I know the one in my town offers a beginners course in their night classes. DD is taking the one is college but she did the night class first.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

You prolly got that video more hits!--so is ok--In retrospect, I shouldn't have even mentioned it--no point....

So Victor, If I don't have a custom setting, does that mean I don't really have a white balance setting? I've noticed that when I adjust what I think is the WB setting, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, Phoebe - you probably still have auto and the other presets, like cloudy, sunny, etc. Changing them should make a difference. The cloudy setting will normally give a warmer tone, for example.

Yes, many HS classes are offered, Polly. Also, there are many great sources on the web.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is this ridiculous, or what?!!

lol, you're neighbors would be laughing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe I can take the kids to the bus with it - or show up meet them inside it at the bus when they're teens!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Are you serious?!!!! No guts--no glory! LOL!
Bubble mentality.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

polly i only suggest getting a better one up front is if you move past the beginner stage you will want a better camera and much of the expense is in the camera body. lens can be used on other bodies as long as you stay with the same manufacturer.

you can not go wrong with either a canon or nikon.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That depends on which lenses, Bill. One on my wish list is much more than the camera!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Starting my decorating. Doing the windows now.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes lenses cost money too - the body is the down payment. still you need a good body that offers the features that would make the lense worthwhile.

no tiger analogy please:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - some need multiple bodies...

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Ha ha ha Victor

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

How do you attach the lights to the windows outside if you have aluminum siding? and how do you frame the window so that there's no wires showing across the house? Like in this pic...

Wow - very pretty. Not an expert here.

Allison!!

Thomaston, CT

Sorry, I put up a wreath & an angel flag---those are my only outdoor decorations---indoors, a tree, & a lighted mantle swag.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I learned to take pictures on a manual Olympus camera. I miss that camera. I mostly us the manual setting on my canon eos rebel, thought I do like the sport setting-great for action pictures or windy days.

How cute!

Do you really think it's important for me to get a DSLR over a point and shoot if my main purpose is to photograph irises?

Pixie, no night classes here at the high school. Our closest community college is about 40 miles away, but that's a possibility.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

There are some very good point and shoots.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Great shot Wren!

Jen I think people with lights like that either call are or an electrician!!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

And will it make any difference to my color problem if I get a point and shoot or DSLR? As long as I get the white balance control?

I'll owe you an iris or two for this info Victor. Thanks! By the way when I was cataloguing my irises this morning I found a Japanese named Vain Victor. I haven't looked for the picture yet. And I'm not implying you're Vain, just saying the name......

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

If you do not need close ups or need to adjust the color(read over or under expose the picture ) then you may be able to use a point and shoot.

good night y'all

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Jen they are either running the wires into the windows... OR... running them all under the eve so you can't see them to the edges of the house.. and then down.. Randy hides the bulk of ours behind the downspouts .. even ours are not as good as that photo

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Allison...not that hubby is going to attempt any of that...lol

I bought some solar lights last year on clearance, they were working before I put them up(on my mailbox and park bench) now they're not...UGH! Cheap crap!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with the quality of the solar lights that are out there. Cheap is right.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah the batteries don't last the way they should... once in a while I will recharge them full with a charger in the house.. seems to help for a week or so

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

just had a delivery from FedEx - Christmas gifts. Just as I close the door I see the mailman coming down my driveway with boxes! I am expecting UPS today too. Love the web! I am just about done with shopping and have not been in one store yet!

Thomaston, CT

I have not done any except for my GK's coats--well, the others just want gift cards, so I'll start ordering those online.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Well done. Thats the way to go Victor!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

How you gonna keep them all hidden til Christmas, Victor?
