I thought the landscaping is finished. i have a sister name Lolita. Belle
DESIGNER'S CHALLENGE!
Belle, you ready for this? Lolita's mother's name is BELLE!
She hasn't planted anything yet.
what's that white thing on the left of the picture?
Bellieg I have seen your pics on other threads, your yard is gorgeous.
Gymgirl,
Belle is my nickname. My sister Lolita is very smart as your sister Lolita. She is a graduate of Indiana University with Medical technology Major. I know your sister has a Phd.
Lynnie,
Thank you, I posted our yard in few places because we worked hard and spent a fortune to be satisfied and proud. DH mows every 3 weeks and with the sprinkler system it does not take too much time for the upkeep. The beds are packed with flowers and looks like a jungle but I like it that way. there is not a lot of weeds either. Belle

I think she said the white thing is a well. They don't pay for water! Can you say "A GARDENERS DREAM??!!"
P.S. Belle I my sister. Lolita is her daughter.

Oh , I gotta bump so I can follow this thread . Love it .
Oh, to have a big blank canvas.. I probably can't add anything in the design department, but I'm better at details.
Belle, you DO have a pretty yard, I had to go look.
Digger!!! How are you? Hope you are doing well and handling the heat okay.
Linda, don't let her plant without some kind of general plan for the whole yard and a specific plan for the individual beds. Otherwise things have a way of snowballing and you wind up having to dig and move stuff....or wish you could. It is also advisable to determine what if any hardscape is going in...even if it will be a while before she may be able to afford a patio, pergola, swimming pool, etc. she needs to know where they will all go and how big they will be.. Her best friend will be a can of spray paint and a tape measure.....the paint really helps visualize what you want to do.
That big white thing looks more like a LP tank for gas to me.
Do they have city gas?
Hi moon , off topic ,but are the little trees surviving?
Jjsgrandma,
I think you're right about it being a gas tank.
The little trees are doing well, Thanks Digger
how about a pic from the other end facing the house? does that gas tank stay there all the time?
Since it is a propane/LP tank, it is quite likely on a concrete pad and serves the cooking/heating needs for the house. I have seen them with garden murals painted on them to help them blend into the landscape.
Ya'll are so good to me.
I would have to pack a lunch and a dinner to take a pic from the other end facing the house.
Lunch, for the drive out to Lolita's house...
Dinner, for the walk from the front fence to the back fence and back...
But, I'll try...
G g , it's good for the figger .lol
sounds like me at my house *grin* gotta take a water bottle and the phone with me to go out back.
Pick a spot to start, use the hose to make a nice curvy bed, and Moon will have a list of ornamental trees and shrubs and plants for ya. A nice flowering weeping tree, some interesting shrubs for texture and winter interest, oh and Moon how about some ornamental grasses? What colors does Lolita like?
And does she want a pool, patio, or other hardscape? Maybe a nice pergola off the back entrance?

OK, here’s my challenge. I am making a new bed in front of my house. In photo, house begins out of picture, bottom of page. I live in zone 7, and it’s a WSW exposure. Sun most of the day. Hard Maryland clay soil.
This bed is approximately 35x35. We’ll be improving the soil this weekend, then planting. There is a low row of helleri holly against the house, then the empty bed begins. It slopes very slightly down to the street (street is at top of page).
Here’s a list of the plants I have. Any suggestions as to how to arrange them would be appreciated!
1 Mature birds nest evergreen 3x3x3
1 Mature helleri holly 3x3x2-½
6 Miscanthus
60 Bearded Iris
3 Peony
5 Hyssop, gallon size
8 Balloonflower, gallon size
9 Abelia, gallon size
5 Lavender, gallon size
Lots of Ajuga
36 Lamb’s ear
7 Helianthemum rock rose, gallon size
7 Clara Curtis daisies, gallon size
Underplant with daffodils, muscari, allium, shorter iris, crocus
3 Pink Yarrow - gallon size
Only 48 hours, so the pressure’s on, haha!
Any help would really be appreciated!

I just sent Lolita a "come to Jesus" email regarding this landscaping project...should be hearing from her VERRRRRRRRRRRY soon...
Do we have more challenges?
Mary Miller just look at aebloom's post, and arrange her/his plants for her(/him) that's more than enough challenge for me lol but maybe there's a prize if you get it right.
