The photo contest

Wow!
I just went through the winners of the photo contest. Some categories we all thought alike! Others, I wasn't even close. For instance, I picked all dog pictures in the pet section but I knew the cat fanciers would triumph. But "Kermit Scissorhands" made it! So did the interesting mushroom I liked. What an experience. None of my pics made it but this doesn't bother me. There were so many fine ones in the contest.

Same here, Martha - I voted for some but not for many of the winners. You never know what will appeal to people.

Victor was right, it's not about the best picture. It's about what the majority of 'gardeners' like...

I think there should be some sort of reminder on what they want the photo contest to be, are we voting for the BEST photo or the cutest? there is a HUGE difference. There was some winners that really baffled me.

I voted on what appealed to me. But I rejected photos that were not in great focus, or composed properly or kinda missed the theme of the category. I didn't vote for the cats, for instance. Some of the photos in the Garden category were a little plain and not really specific and I like roses that are different so I voted for the picture of the Rugosa bud. and of course, I voted for me in those categories that I entered.

I voted for the pictures that I thought would look best as part of a calendar that I would be willing to put up in my office.

I picked a winner or runner-up in every category---sometimes 2 or 3---but some I would never have voted for---anyway, wish I could be that lucky with the lottery!

i only voted in 3 or 4 categories and had a 1-3 and a honorable mention in each - i only had one winner - victor's pond shot from last fall (congrats!)
next year i will look at a few more categories - some simply do not interest me.

I spent hours and looked at every pic and voted in all the categories. I really like to see what people think is special and the gardens and scenery from all over. There were so many outstanding pics from the NE this year and so many winners. You guys are gooooooooood. I didn't get any entered this year as I was halluciflying with the flu and missed the deadline. Next year I'll be sure to enter earlier! I'm going for the Miss Congeniality prize ^_^

While Victor and I were 'talking' (dmailing), he told me it was time to come back to the NE forum. So here I am. I missed you guys!!!

I just wanted to say the NE forum has always had the bestest picture takers in the world. This years photos are outstanding. Wonderful job in the picture contest, NE forum! I'm simply amazed at the photos submitted. Better than in most magazines.

Hmmm, I haven't seen the beans around, but the men drinking the chianti do have maroon eyes, small teeth and slicked back hair. I think they're in my woods tonight. I just heard some howling on the way to the garage.

Or it could be a coyote. A coyote was hit down the road, and the DEC took it to Cornell where they DNA tested it, and found it had grey wolf in it. That would explain why they are so large around here. I always though coyote had some dog parentage around here, but this one did not. So would we call them coywolves instead of coydogs?

Wow. We have coyotes around here too. Interesting.

Are your COYOTES very large? see Victor, I remember your humor.

It is scary. Here they have not been aggressive. But according to the DEC, the coywolves (if that's a name), will take down a deer, where for a regular coyote or coydog a rabbit is about the limit. It's kind of cute, they sit at the edge of fields when farmers are havesting corn, and wait for the small critters to run out of the fields. Smart. If you've never heard one howl when they catch prey, it's bone chilling.

But I would not want them around children or pets.

I have at the one barn I boarded my horse at... it was late at night.. and we were having a sat night jackpot barrel race... there was a pack of something out howling.. the hair on the back of my neck stood up... freaky!!!.... all the guys jumped on quads with shotguns to check on the couple of horses outside ... they were worried about the one pony... all was good though

well I am off .. night all!!

At first they almost sound like a siren going off. Glad the pony was unharmed.

Hi Polly---glad to see you back! That coyote looks menacing---someone brought their toy poodle to art class yesterday, & another student said they cannot have a small dog anymore in their yard---too many coyotes. Today's paper was filled with missing cat ads---I'm afraid the coyotes got most of them!
