Gee Marna...that new feeder is sure a hit! Love that RB Nuthatch...one was spotted not too far from here so maybe I will see one someday!!
Lin...Love that shuttle shot...very cool! Saw it once when I was in Florida..I'll never forget it!
Love your Hawk Elf...raptors are so beautiful!
Hack you are sure getting a nice variety of birds and nice shots of them!
Red...my yard looks like that shot...Red-winged Blackbirds, Starlings and Grackles everywhere!
A Meadowlark from Saturday...just for you Marna. We still have lots of them on the farm and I love hearing them sing in the morning...such a nice wake-up!
Daily pics #258
Burd, thanks for the correction on my hawk in the last thread.
Mrs. Ed, your hawk was beautiful.
Margaret, great start for the new thread. Your Shrike is beautiful. Are they any threat to osprey chicks when they're very small?
Little Things, your owl is gorgeous, and love that vulture baby.
Rose, love your cardinal and that feeder/ornament is adorable.
Hack, love your cardinal too. Wish one of you would send a few of these birds out west!
Red, I think I prefer my smaller flock of Starlings-maybe 20.
Elphaba, great hawk shot!
Mrs. Ed, awesome photos of your birds and I love your feeder. Enjoyed your article too, thanks for the ideas.
This Bald Eagle wasn't cooperating when I asked him to come closer.
Great picture of the meadowlark--used to hear them when I was a kid, then after WWII their fiels had houses built on it & who knows where they went. bluejuays are very good at eating the eggs of other birds.
dellrose: That Meadowlark is gorgeous ... we supposedly have the Eastern or Southern Meadowlark here in Florida but I've never seen one.
ducbucln: That is an awesome shot of the Bald Eagle! and, I love Mockers!
Wonderful pics guys!
Love the Red-breasted Nuthatch Marna!
Duc, I like your eagle shot!
Rose, Beautiful Meadowlark!
Nice raptor shot Elphaba!
Good shuttle shot PL!
pelletory: That is a great shot of the pretty little Tufted Titmouse!
I love how some of y'all get pic's of these birds with seeds/nuts in their beaks!
jumping in though I feel so awkward posting, lol.
Mrs Ed I sure enjoyed your article today, I'm always looking for ideas for bird feeders & such.
Congratulations to everybody who entered the photo contest. Great photos.
Dellrose that Meadowlark is gorgeous!
Depending on the season it isn't very unusual for me to see a robin getting a drink in my yard. I've always seen them alone for some reason. Today I had a small flock hanging around, 8 to 10 of them. This one was much lighter in color than the rest & my Sibley's guide book shows a picture of a pale form, never seen one before. I'm thinking this is one but maybe it is just a youngin'??
A note about Rudy Roadrunner for those of you who remember him - I only caught glimpses of him a very few times all summer - I can't even be sure it was him. Then a few days ago he came running right up to me. Roadrunners must have good memories. He's visiting everyday again.
yay Rudy! Won't be too long before he's up at the window again.
Oh, can't wait to see a picture of Rudy Roadrunner! How cool!
Oh angele, That is a wonderful shot of him, so glad Rudy is back with you! He looks great! Pretty Robin pic too!
Nice "do"
Thanks! lol, it is fun to watch that crest go up and down
What a handsome guy Rudy is! So cool that he comes right up to have his picture taken!
Wow, terrific pictures everyone!
Beautiful shots Duc and Pelle!
Angele..So nice to see you and Rudy!! He is certainly a handsome dude and would love to see more of him! Pretty Robin too!
Congratulations to the winners in the contest. Well done, duc.
Little_things, I love seeing the birds you have over there and look forward to your thread.
Rose, the shot of the female Cardinal is a scream.
Red, that's a scary sight.
Cutest little Titmouse, Pelle.
Thanks for the Blue Jay, Mrs Ed. Nice feeder - pity it's a bit crooked!
Well spotted, Lin. Yes the Cuckoo-shrike was on the pole branch at the osprey site. duc, I don't think this bird would pose a threat to a chick. I think they are mainly insectivorous. Anyway, their presence never causes any concern for the adult birds.
angele, I love that Roadrunner.
Yesterday was pretty cloudy and dull. This Kookaburra was brought to my attention because it was being hounded by a Red Wattlebird. Didn't get a shot of that bit of action. I had bumped the ISO up to 1600 to get this shot and was quite pleased at the lack of noise.
Margaret my friend, birds do NOT care. And I don't think that any birds (even Monk parakeets) have OCD.
That is a great shot Margaret...amazing that there is no noise with the high ISO!
Mrs. Ed...I have a Blue Jay that has OCD!! He has to clean the Willow leaves out of the bird bath before he will drink from it!! Too weird but I've seen him do it many many times!
Oh my, that's so funny Rose. I suppose Grackles might have OCD too, as they have to wash their bugs!
Nice variety of birds everyone great shots too! Cloudy and windy here, only a couple of pictures, but I have been keeping an eye on my feeder's and currently I have counted 10 Junco's, 2 White-breasted Nuthatches, 2 Black-capped Chickadee's and a Downy as daily visitors, including the House Finch's. I'm hoping the R-bellied WP comes back. This winter I,m hoping to see a Red-breasted Nuthatch.
House Finch
Sorry I forgot to give congratulation's to the Photo Contest winner's, very nice shot's indeed Duc and Dave!
Mrs_Ed, I was referring to when you said "Hey, that bird has butterfly caterpillars on it!"
Hack
The Golden-crowned Kinglet has been around for a few days. They seem to flock in for 15-20 minutes, move on and then return in about a half hour. Such beautiful little birds they are, but very hard to photograph. They are constantly on the move, and if they don't have their back to you, then their head is buried in the lichens they seem to prefer to forage in.

I managed to keep the pigeons, crows, blue birds and squirells out of my feeders by throwing BOSS and cracked corn out on the ground. As long as they had food that was easy to get to, they did not bother the small birds at the feeders.
edited to add: I meant to put that one on the bad bird pics thread...It is hard to tell which picture it is in the thumbnails.

Oh, Hack, THAT bird. The space shuttle took a bunch of caterpillars into space. They'll go onto the Space station. Meanwhile, back at home, classrooms will be monitoring their growth, along with some in their own classroom. Our own OP birder's classroom is participating.

Wonderful shots Tiger! They certainly are hard to photograph as their constantly in motion.
Nice pics burd and burn!
