Coffee Break #23 - Counting down to Turkey!

South Hamilton, MA

It is easier to recover from the loss of an animal, dog or anything else, if there is another one around to talk to. Train shows should have a place to sit down for older people. We remember the real thing shooting steam & the little ones are fancinating.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I just got home from work. Thanks for the compliments on my granddaughter, everyone.

Jan, we must look alike then, as Jenna looks just like I did at that age, and as her mother did also. Of course, add a few wrinkles, and a few pounds, but I still have the hair, although some of it comes from a bottle. But I'm still told she looks like me.

Jadajoy. I'm surprised to hear that's harder than the military, but that time was probably in full gear.

Jennas brother Jamie is a black belt, he's 10, and it took him two tries to make the run time, so no one is going to be disappointed if she doesn't, other than the idea of her being the youngest to do it in the dojo. .

Jenna already kinda has a boyfriend. He's a cutie, about 1/2 a head shorter than she is. I asked her what made him her boyfriend, were they dating, going to the movies, out to dinner, things like that? She said no, he just said he was my boyfriend.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good thing she knows karate, Polly!

My son asked me today if germs have faces!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

And your answer?

I think they must have very mean faces.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha ha - I said no, but if they did they would have mean faces!

Something just occured to me!! My father in law will want to see the game while he's here at my house for Thanksgiving. He gets very impatient and will want to leave quickly, but we want to keep them here as long as we can. I don't have cable TV. Does anyone know if I can stream football games on the internet?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Should be on broadcast tv.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Get well, soon, Sandy! I wish I could send you some of our cool weather.

Karen

Got this from one of my AV forums--the member that posted it received this email from a friend of hers--it's for a good cause, and I think it's great!

Hi everyone,

My friend’s niece, Emily Somers, created, directed and choreographed this in
Portland last week for her Medline glove division as a fundraiser for breast
cancer awareness. This was all her idea to help promote their new pink
gloves. I don't know how she got so many employees, doctors and patients to
participate, but it started to really catch on and they all had a lot of fun
doing it.

When the video gets 1 million hits, Medline will be making a huge
contribution to the hospital, as well as offering free mammograms for the
community. Please check it out. It's an easy and great way to donate to a
wonderful cause, and who hasn't been touched by breast cancer?

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! ^_^

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Loved it! Thanks for sharing that.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I donate every year for the breast cancer fund and yes I am very familiar with it since I was stricken with it. I was only 22 years old. In 1950 there was not much but suffer a radical surgery how ever, it saved my life even though it made me very unhappy for many years.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

That was great! Thanks!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Maria, you are a true survivor.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

What a tragedy Maria at such a young age. Thank God you are strong and still here with us.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I clicked than I sent the link out in an email to family and friends....it'll hit 1 million in no time! ^_^

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dave, glad your son is on the mend!! I bet he's very thankful this Thanksgiving!!

Sandy hope your feeling better soon, glad it's over and you'll be back to normal in no time!

Maria I'm so sorry you had to endure that but very happy your with us today. ^_^

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone, I'm very thankful to have ALL OF YOU in my life. You've made a difficult year bearable. ^_^
Love, Pixie

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Phoebe - thanks!

Wow, Maria. Incredible that they're recommending not getting mammograms until 50 when the most aggressive and deadly forms happen in the 40's.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I cannot believe that either. Two of my acquaintance were in their twenties also, one lived 10 years after surgery they gave her testosterone injections she started to grow hair all over her body. It was believed the lack of it caused women who just had a child, as was the case with me and them. The other one ignored the growth had an other baby, this did her in right after its birth.

Women are very fortunate having all modern medicine at their service, of course, so are men.

I think I am the 'cat with nine lifes'. Nearly getting killed with bombs because three of the schools I attended to were flat end, Russians held rifles and guns to my head as they invaded our house.

All of you are right, have been lucky but now what ever happens to me I am ready for it, good or bad.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I believe your life would be a best seller if made into a book Maria. You have lived a facinating but hard life Maria, bless you dear lady. You have more courage and strength and most of us dare dream about. Have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving Maria, you so deserve it.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

pixie, many people have said I should write a book but most of have been written about this subject before, many, many went through this, I was not the only one.

All just remember not to 'hate' grocery shopping or preparing meals. Americans take too much for granted. I have a small plaque on my front door it says 'The best thing in life are not things'.. Even I have to remember this at times.

Thomaston, CT

Loved the video! Am a contributor to breast cancer fundraisers as my niece was stricken at 38---again, way before 50. She's doing fine. Glad you are also, Maria---Karen, so glad you are getting Winston----my 2 are best friends---never any aggression toward each other.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Marie--always remember YOUR story will always be unique--and I don't think there are ever too many reminders of how fortunate we are that we woke up this morning...some days it's those realizations that are the only thing that gets me through the day. It's human nature to forget sometimes.
That said, while I am grateful for clothing and linens--soap, running water, washing machines--I will always hate doing laundry!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

phoebe, you made me laugh out loud, I don't care to do the laundry either now that I am alone there is not as much to wash as it was when we were six (Yes, I had three more children, just wanted to proof I was normal). My mother did not have a washing machine, I did not have one either because right after the war it was not available just like stoves, refrigerator, nor cars, had to do everything by hand.
Many years later I bought a washing machine for my mother, she said it does not wash as clean as when I do it the old way, lol lol

If there is one thing I really hate and that is any kind of war anywhere, seems we never learn.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

maria i'm not sure if i can remember not to hate grocery shopping - especially when someone blocks the ailse with their cart - i have absolutley no patience that.

a week ago it happened on the first two rows i went down - a lady who was behind me for both incidents could not help and laugh the second time when i kind of raised my arms and muttered under my breath "you gotta be kidding me (adjective deleted)" and pushed the cart out of the way - drives me nuts :)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Maria, I agree entirely with that last sentence. As a people, we all need to mature another couple of hundred years. Maybe then there would be no war. Maybe we wouldn't mind doing laundry either, I don't know.

You really remind me about how grateful I should be for the simple, but fantastic things I have. Thanks Maria.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Don't mind laundry, don't mind grocery shopping. Doing the dishes is my pet peeve.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

wha, I don't think it is so much the about grocery shopping as it is about rude people and also when there are 12 check out counters and only two are open with 10 people in line. I am blind in one eye and the other is not good either, so I have to get very close to a product to see what I am buying, once in a while some one will reach for the same thing almost hitting my nose, guess I am not fast enough, seems people are always impatient.

Sofo, don't care to do dishes either for one thing I make such a mess when I cook, my husband used to say we need two dishwashers, lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I love blocking aisles for crazy people.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hummmm - who you callin crazy wise guy ?

you are right maria they are rude and i know it will happen before i step in to the store, still get's me going.

and just so everyone does not think it is all grocery cart wars - i'm also the guy who helps the shorter older ladies get stuff off the top shelf - they seem to zone in on me for help - that i do not mind - as long as their cart on parked on the side :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You should lift them up!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Should lift up the younger ones and just get the item for the older ones. (lol)

South Hamilton, MA

We shorter, older ladies bite!!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Too funny!

Maria, I'd be happy with just one dishwasher!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too, Harp. About 22 years old.
