Apropos of Nothing v.4

(Judi)Portland, OR

I love New Seasons for their local organic fresh produce and 100% grass-fed beef. And the free-range bug-eating chicken. And their cheese section. And their wine selections. And and and ..........

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Thanks Pony for the reciepe. I thought there was more sweetener when I ate it. I too shall cook it when I get home after thanksgiving.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

My sweetie has landed at the airport & is about an hour away! So excited to have company. "Wow, good sleeping weather," he said when he called.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Have a good visit. sk.

(Judi)Portland, OR

guess we won't be hearing from sk for a while. :)

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Steve, there are probably a billion different versions of Adobo... but this one is danged tasty.

Daaaaaaaaang! Granny's got it goin' ON! She's way more limber than I ever was! Woooo!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

She is obviously quite active, and has probably been dancing a very long time. She has strong back & neck muscles, which would be one of the first areas to weaken with inactivity.
What impressed me was her balance & precision while twirling - it's not easy to do when you're young & agile!
thanks for sharing that Kathy - it made me clap & cheer for her!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Me too. And her ability to stretch and extend. And her stomach muscles, to pull herself up from those holds where she was stretched out. It's crazy. The email to me that originally had this said she was in her 90's and that this was her great grand son. What a nice kid!

"Quite active"? That is a serious understatement! That's just incredible!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

quite active, as in a continual state.
Sedentary, she is not!

Happy belated birthday Willow!

Bea, I so feel for you with the greenhouse incident. I do small greenhouses to harden off seedlings in the spring, and have had the wind tip one over...what a sad chore it is cleaning up all of your little babies, and I wasn't even hurting like you were. Hopefully they are on their way to recovery now.

Is it right to be craving pork roast and turkey gravy at 7:30 in the morning? Yummy!

Katye, glad you are feeling a bit better.

Lynn, hopefully you get feeling better soon! Just keep the end result in mind when you are still feeling like poo, and try to ride it out happily. I have a "care" package for you with some plants from Pony and Pixy, so I will try to bring them by either this weekend or over the Thanksgiving weekend to cheer you up! Near miss with that tree! At least it's down now. I found one 80 or so foot maple down, but we were just as lucky....its tippy tippy top brushed the carport on the shop, and took down a few small cedars I had been nurturing :( , but the rest of it was in the gully....whew!

Pony and Summer, I agree with Judy...friends who listen well are invaluable!

Have fun this weekend SK!

Kathy, that video was amazing! It is really inspiring to see proof that you don't have to grow "old" as you age!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

That video was impressive.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Love that video. She must take Vit D.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I also loved the video. Got my happy face on now!

Thanks to you all for the birthday wishes. I appreciate all of them. ^_^

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Tracy has invented a new drinking game.

Every time Pony says "I can make a flowerbed out of that!" everybody takes a drink.

*snork*

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Boy oh boy, you stay off line for a day or so and do you ever get behind!!!!
Kathy, you took the words right out of my mouth about Dirt's omission in his personal description. I sure saw that name on a lot of winning photos in the contest.
Dirt, do stick around. The guys need support in numbers and we want more of your great wit.
SK, good weather for sleeping or just lazing around in bed?
Pony, I know Julie and I will definitely tag-team on your pork recipe.
Kate, hope by now you are all better.
Lynn, how lucky the tree chose the way to fall. Scary!
Kathy, loved the video. I think I saw another featuring her a few years back and was amazed. Will see if I still have it somewhere in the archives.
Judi, hope you are also all better.
Etc. Etc. Etc. to all.

I just got a letter from my health insurance company informing me that my monthly payment is going up 20%. One more 20% hike, which will probably happen next year, and I will no longer be able to afford coverage. And I have a 1500 dollar deductible. I have been a responsible and productive person all my life and contributed to society. Now, like many other in this country, I feel like I'm getting kicked in the teeth. I'm getting angry!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

All the insurance companies are probably going to gouge their customers as much as they can before the health bill becomes a reality.

Just like the stock people and bankers took all the money off the top of the pot. Where is the disaster when the stock market is still over 10,000?

And the rigged oil crisis to take billions in profits.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I have a headache.

Freecycle people drive me crazier. Why is it so hard to show up when you say you're going to? If somebody is giving me something for free, I certainly don't flake out on picking it up. Sheesh.

OOh, Portland, that is very bad news. In the end, I think we will all have catastrophic care insurance to keep us from going bankrupt if something bad happens. The rest is likely to be up to us. I'm not sure that's always a bad thing, but we're certainly not used to it. And more people will go to the doctor less and less.

It's sure a discouraging thing when people who have been contributing to the welfare of all suffer for it. Sort of like the family who has struggled to make ends meet so the can pay the mortgage and keep it current, forgoing anything extra at all because that's the 'right' thing to do. They aren't getting mortgage help because they are not behind on their mortgage. But the person who bought way more house than they should or could afford, then used the house as an ATM machine, then said 'oh well' and let the house go into default - they are going to get help from the bank to keep from foreclosing. Doesn't make too much sense.

Pony, I gave up on freecycle long ago. Bunch of flakes it you ask me. I've had that happen any number of times. I don't even list anymore.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Melissa I don't have or qualify for catastrophic anything. I loose my house investments and everything I have worked for for almost 40 years. I only takes about 5 days of current charges to eliminate my life work. I qualify for NO medical protection. "Hence the need to go for a walk in the snow." My living will is to allow for medical proceedures to not take all of this from my family. Hopefully the circumstances allow for my wishes to be carrie out.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Steve, I sincerely hope nothing catastrophic happens to you, or any of us for that matter.

I have had mixed results with freecycle. Some people come right away to get the item offered, and some cause you a big runaround with lots of annoying e-mailing back and forth before they finally arrive. It has been helpful to rid my yard and house of a few things I was glad to see used by someone. For example, after we put siding on our outbuilding (it was seconds given to us by another person) I put the leftover pile on freecycle and a young man came and got a stack of it to side his chicken coop. I have scored several piles of horse manure and a nice file cabinet which I am happy to have.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I do get some people who show up on schedule and communicate well, but I think they're the minority. I still list things there because I have gotten a lot of good things from people who could have just dropped them off at Goodwill or thrown them away, but they took the time to list them for free. I guess I'm trying to keep my Freecycle Karma balanced...

Steve, that's just morally wrong that you are in that position. I hope you will benefit from any kind of new legislation that is passed, if it ever is.
I list free things on Craigslist. I've been burned less for some reason. I figured it was just the Lakewood freecycle that was a bust. Looks like my freecycle karma is in the pits. :)

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh, I do Craigslist too. I often post items both places and then pick the person who sent the most polite response to give it to. It never fails to irk me when I get an email saying "I want it. Give me your address." Umm... I don't think so. Or better yet- "Can you bring it to me" Umm... NO. Sheesh.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

I have some good news to report, and hopefully it will result in Great news.

Mom and I met with the detective yesterday who is working on Mom's burglary. They have identified the one who broke her window by the fingerprints we had insisted be taken. The detective has spoken with the culprit a couple of times but has not met with him in person. The prosecutor insisted that we see a picture of him to assure them that it wasn't a friend or hired help rather than the burglar who left the prints.

He brought a collection of six pictures--new technology for a line up I guess-- and believe it or not, Mom picked the right one out of the six!!!!! The detective and I were both thrilled as we had figured that it had been too dark and quick for her to have seen him very well at all.

He now feels cerain that the prosecutor will be comfortable issuing a warrant for the arrest. Now, if only the guy doesn't skip before they get him! Once they arrest him, the final proof will be the healing cut on the arm from when he broke the window. Hope it is still visible! Keep your fingers crossed!

That's great news!! I love it when these guys get caught.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Excellent! I hope it works out and they can nail that jerk!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hopefully that will be the ticket to finalizing this ordeal. Too bad you had to insist they take fingerprints. I would think that would have been part of the normal protocol. Best wishes!

Happy Thanksgiving.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Time is short today, so not checking the whole forum, and not commenting on anything other than to say Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope your holiday is everything that you want it to be!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! :)

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

We just got home from dinner at my daughter's house. It was the best food I have ever eaten. No kidding, just yummy. Our grandson Sande came with us (DH's daughter's son) as his mom is in Thailand on a scuba diving trip.

Happy Turkey Day!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Well, everybody ate lots of the food I made, and nobody died. I reckon it was a succesful meal. :)

It was just our family this year, very low key but with our traditional meal. I just want the food to last the rest of the weekend so I don't have to cook for a few days.
I celebrated by potting up all the rooted coleus cuttings.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Happy Thanksgiving to all in PNW. Remember not to feed you dog the gravy and turkey or your Vet will be overwhelmed with patients today.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I've been listening to the news this morning about the horrific murder of the 4 police officers in Parkland. Melissa, Pony and all you who are close to that area, please stay inside this morning and be careful.

They haven't caught the guy yet and who knows where he's wandering around with a gun and unafraid to shoot.

Truly a stunning tragedy.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Four Lakewood police officers were killed this morning just a couple of miles from our home. A man walked into the coffee shop where they were sitting together, pulled out a gun and executed them in cold blood. He got away.

I'm in shock. I feel sick.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Katie, you posted right when I was typing mine...

I'm just mindblown over this.
