Pony, Congrats on getting your stuff in the ground! My mission for tomorrow, if I should choose to accept it, is to do the same with the bulbs that I somehow foolishly decided that I needed to order this fall. Hopefully the rain holds off for me, too! If not, I will be one wet, muddy ball by the time I get in (unless I wimp out like I did last Sunday!)
I must have twice as much moral fiber in my diet as Pony, and half as much as Summer, as my back only debilitates me half the time......
Dirt, you are welcome to interrupt any time! Getting involved usually brings out the best in this group, only sometimes you have to hang on, because with the wit of some of the participants, it gets to be kind of a wild ride!
(I myself had to take the fifth on the battery issue as I was laughing too hard!)
Apropos of Nothing v.4
"Anyone who can correctly spell 'ornier' must stay!"
*pointing and laughing*
Hey Dirt, Augusta is in Eastern Montana on the "other side" of the rockies. They do things different there. Yes it is still a big party with the Rodeo and street party.
Kalispell has done what is being done in a lot of places. I drink and still really enjoy the fun without booze that that night has. Kids, Adults, pets, families and friends all enjoying the beauty of a warm room with music and the cold walk to the next venue with fires and fun along the way. Three generations all together in the same room.
My neighborhood in Chicago has a similar event, called 'Neighbor's Eve'. All the churches, synagogues and the mosque host music, dance, or games and provide food. Then the gym at the Neighborhood Club is the big gathering place for a balloon drop at midnight. They have a bus rigged like a holiday trolley to help people with transportation between events. It was an absolutely frigid night the time my family went to this, but we had a fabulous time anyway.
I can't believe I'm setting myself up for this crap. Hope you all spit battery acid into yer keyboards.
So how is ornier spelled? Ornerier?
Help.
From dictionary.com
or·ner·y (ôr'nə-rē)
adj. or·ner·i·er, or·ner·i·est
Mean-spirited, disagreeable, and contrary in disposition; cantankerous.
Yeah, but how many of you supercilious bluebloods pronounce it ONRY, may I ask?
I've never heard it pronounced 'onry'. OOH, wait, maybe my precious little blueblood ears just don't recognize it when it's pronounced incorrectly! I never thought of that!! That's probably it. I was having to concentrate too hard on where I was going, with my nose so high in the air, to pay much attention. (Sniffs loudly, glides from room quoting latin plant names, holding crown to head, one arm extended gracefully to the side.) And besides, I would Never recognize such a word.
Onry little thing.
I like "onryer" better as far as expressive pronunciation goes.
Yep, yer even onryer.
I'd like to hold my head up, as tradition dictates, but there is a lyrical quality about onry . . . and that gets me every time. If it sounds good, do it. Geez, I have no standards . . .
Hooray for snooty cans of worms! :D
I pronounce it "ornree"
*polishes tiara*
I have heard that cultures that experience a lot of something have many words for that thing in its different forms . . . . what does that say about us and "onry"? :-D
Are you implying that we're... *gasp* cantankerous?
Isn't that what onry becomes when you hit 50?
Uh-oh... I'm early.
Oppositional? Antagonist? Instigating?
EGO can animadverto ut res erudio est duco nocens vultus. Ignosco mihi dum EGO planto meus superbus exitus.
OOOH, I AM sorry! I accidentally slipped into my fluent latin...my mistake, I'm sure! Pay no attention to little old me! I'm sure it must be a low estrogen night.
*appropriately awed*
I bow to the Mistress of Snoot.
:D
Thank you, Your Majesty... you are too kind. *simper*
Hmm. We may get a "We are not amused" out of her for playing without her.
Holy cow. Um .... Arundinaria! Lumos!
I speak Latin!
Ouyay inkthay ou'reyay osay uperiorsay! Mmphhay! :p
Ow. Now my brain hurts.
Ok, all you erudite types:
My favorite sign, seen along Hwy 14 in the gorge:
Domus
Dulcis
Domus
Head sweet head?
I never studied Latin, but double-checking, "Domus" is home

uuuhhhh.....home sweet home...............
Never met one of you in person but somehow I think I have known your souls forever!
WMPL (WET MY PANTS LAUGHING) You know that happens after 50. I can't think of anything to say. That happens after 50, too.
Been laid up with back problems the last two week only to find my green house knocked over by the winds last night. It is loaded with plants who now are all tipped over. What a mess. Guess I will endure the pain and get it cleaned up after I finish my coffee.I will have a date with the heating pad later today. Dang it! I was just starting to feel better. :(
Willow.....I think this is your day.... ♬Happy Birthday♫
You guys are too much - does pig latin count?
Oh no, Bea... I'm so sorry. That sucks in a majorly huge way. :(
Well got the mess cleaned up & the green house upright. A few broken branches on my Brugs and a lot of spilled dirt, could have been worse I suppose. Have now tied it down with bungie cords..so hopefully it will stay put. My lawn guy came this morning and I asked him to skip the back yard. I have not been able to clean up after the dogs for two weeks. I don't think he wants that mess in the blades. Yuck! I have cabin fever alreay this season. I hate not being able to go work in the yard. I am so far behind with everything. Time for some heat therapy.
I hope it stays put for you. And I hope your back stops hurting so bad. Back pain sucks.
Happy Birthday, Willow! I hope you're doing something fun today!
Oh Beahive do take care. Back problems are painful and I hope you feel better soon.
Happy birthday Willow!
I am eccentric not orn ree, That's how it is at 71.
I'm going to lunch with my DH's daughter today and then going to get my driver's license renewed.
Thank you for your bday wishes.
Hippo birdie to ewe!!!!
Bea, be good to yourself and try to enjoy the downtime. Sometimes (your back is saying) "resting" just has to be done. And this is it. Besides, the storms have been back-to-back, and unless you have a gardening cover (as PixyQueen does), it's not fit weather out for man or beast.
I heard last night that the line up of Pineapple Express-generated storms is supposed to subside by the beginning of next week. Enjoy your heat pad and shoot for outside work then.
I won't even attempt to share the in Latinese. But I do love the translation "head sweet head". That makes me laugh.
