It's Fall in the Northeast #4

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Ge1836, it was a perfect day on Nantucket yesterday, not today. Windy and rainy. I am so excited to see how big foetidus gets.

onewish1, thanks for posting that picture. I love it, but then I am a sucker for green flowers.

nutsfordaylily, I am still confused as the 'Sparkling Diamond' is suppose to be a double and this one so far looks more like a single, but I would need to lay on the ground to find out or cut the flower. Not doing that. The next buds are on top, so I will be able to tell for sure. I may have mixed up a tag or got a different one. I will keep you posted. All the others are growing fine, but no buds. Nice! Those pics and the weather today , I could almost believe it wasn't really December.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My Jersey tea is still blooming.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

just keep in mind it is a stinking hellebore .. but pretty from a far

:)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no blooms on my hellabores - only planted them the summer from a coop.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Our white one is from one of the summer coops, but none of the others from those coops are showing blooms yet. Patti

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Aaagh!! My new DSLR visited today on the FedEx truck but I wasn't here to sign for it. I wanted to take pics with it of some buds on my Xmas Rose hellebore. If it gets real cold I doubt they'll open but they are there!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe the FedEx guy did!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

That would be "tres gentil" of him. Then I would download the pic when I finally get the camera. (We are watching a French Nouvelle Vague movie, can you tell?)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I just knew you had class boogum.

Thomaston, CT

Lots of photos when you get it, Booj!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice stinky hellebore, Allison!

Patti, yes, let me know if your Sparkling Diamond turns out to be double. If it's not, then it may be the Helleborus niger.

Bummer about that, Kathy. I bet your anxious to get it. I know I would be.

nutsfordaylily, I went out today and crawled around and found out that I screwed up the tags and this one is actually another one that I got from a coop from Pine Knot Farms and it is actually Double White Lenten Rose Helleborus x hybridus 'Mrs. Betty Ranicar'. I bought 5 of them for 25.00 and I checked the others and no blooms on them. Patti

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Lenten?
My camera came but the card reader doesn't work with my computer so I can't download pictures yet. Anyone have that trouble? Works fine with my DBF's laptop. GRRRR. In any case, the lenses (18-270mm and 60mm macro) are incredible and there will be less of a learning curve than I thought with the gadgetry since it's another Canon! Thanks for your advice Victor!!! Just wish I could show you all.
1-3" of the white stuff tomorrow. Snow tire appt on Tuesday. WINTER!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

kathy which canon camera did you get? just curious.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What about directly connecting the camera to the computer with the usb, Kathy?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

That's what I do....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I do that but down load to a graphics software program to edit and crop.
Now I make collages rather than take up thread space with several views of the same flower.
Satisfaction Lily.
I tried 4 times to upload on PlantFiles.
Its too early in the AM.Didnt realize the pics had to be reviewed before they appeard on the site.

ge1835 great collage of one of my truly great growing lilies, 'Satisfaction'. But how did you get the colored grid spacing. Patti

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

What would I do without you guys!!!!
Here is one of the orchids with the macro. The camera is a Canon 50D. I decided NOT to get one of the new cameras with video since the reviews weren't so hot on the video feature and it eats up so much memory for digital videos.

That one goes well with your lily, ge!
One more.

They just make my heart stop, sooooo beautiful.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Truely lovely, the are in MHO one of the most elegant, and exotic looking beauties of the flower world. ^_^

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Bojoom, Oh, a new camera to research. I looked at the gem Victor bought. The last one I got after I actually tried out the one Boojum had bought and got the same one. I need a new one too, but only a small pocket one, as my old one died. In my DH's hands, not mine, so I am not guilty I like to have a little flat one for travel, rather than having just the big one. Great orchid shots. Drooling over the sherbert orange one.

Thanks Ge1836 for the grid coloring information. Learned a great new trick. Maybe I am not 'Old'. Total 'Satisfaction' Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no not old patti - too bad about your camera, did he drop it? before digital i had a nikon slr and i dropped it on my garage floor, thought the case was closed and it fell out when i picked it up, did a good job to it both lense and camera died that day.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Great collage Patti.Nice color choice too.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Thanks all. More pics in "our" future. So much fun. I figure all my research (over a week, practically non-stop over Txgiving) will keep the Alzheimer at bay for a few more years!!

Bill I found a piece of pink, I knew I had a few laying around. ^_^ There's another one out in the garden a bit darker than this one but not as big.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

wow!!

how big is it? looks like it would be paper weight size. i have a couple here in my office that size - one from the top of mt. washington of white quartz with moss and lichens on it and another from the knifes edge trail on mt katahdin of pink granite with lichens on it.

btw if you ever get to the top of mt. washington, one side has a field of car size white quartz boulders amongst the granite. day i was up there a photographer was getting pictures for a coffee table book. i did not bring a camera that day.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Bill, if you ever come out here, there is a house on the road on my way to my work that is basically a rock garden. His yard (I saw a man there one day) is small but crammed with rocks lining the sidewalks, etc. Very neat. Someday, if I'm not dashing to work a few minutes late, I should figure out where I can park to take some shots of it for you.

This is with the telephoto lens.

my next car will be a front end loader!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Hate when I don't have my camera. Bet you kicked yourself, but you know where they are now. And I doubt the rocks are moving much. Bill, I think it's great that you are so obsessed. Viva obsessions!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my dslr has turned into two granite japanese lanterns:)

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Know how ya feel. I work at a tech school and have been eyeing the equipment in Landscaping shop with lust for years.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Oh, can I see them?? Or, wait, you can't take a pic now....
