Morning Glories 2009 #21
gardenpom - The "Art swirl" photo is awesome!!! Look at the blooms you are hosting! Must be like paradise in your yard! :-)
They are all so beautiful that I got the hiccups just looking at them all! LOL! Now I need to get rid of these hiccups! Ugh ...
Helena, Lovely Heavenly Blue
Thanks....lots' more open this morning....just about to head out, kind of overcast here today.
gardenpom - Those are simply stunning! Thanks for giving me my MG fix for the day! :-)
me too.. I like those flying sacuers, and that mauvey lav pink to the left is really nice.
Jackie - How nice to see you still have some blooming even with the cooler weather! Your Lavender Chiffon looks pink! Is that the afternoon color or the morning color? And does it have a large sized bloom? Nice bright color on that Plum Delight! :-)
Thanks Becky, that's a late afternoon pic of Lav Chiffon, about 530 pm.
The blooms have been this color all summer, darker than a true
Lavender. I really like it. It opens and retains this color. The bloom was
about 3 inches across
Both this one and the small Plum Delight are in the g house
so I can gather seeds and enjoy any remaining blooms.
Pretty little purpurea Helena.
Lovely looking I. purpureas and tricolors, Ladies!
gardenpom - I love the Blue Star/Flying Saucer cross you got! Very, very nice!
I have lots of blooms on my I. purpureas growing in the big pot. Apparently, a bunch of seeds fell from the vine into the soil in the pot and I now have a lot of sprouts and vines. And they are blooming! They seem to be mostly the Pink Flaked I. purpurea vines. Not much else is blooming in my yard other than the Cassia bushes, the Red Shrimp Plants, the Cape Honeysuckle tree, and the Firespike. Luckily, most of these blooms are food sources for the hummingbird, so that is why it seems to stay year round here. :-) I've got some Milkweed blooming around the yard too. With 2 chrysalis and one caterpillar (all Monarchs), the Milkweed will come in handy! And there actually is more plants blooming such as my Bonsai and roses, too. But I am always looking at the nectar plants first to make sure there is food for the hummer. If not, I'd be making sugar water. :-)
gardenpom - I finally got some rain down here today. It's been dry as a bone. No rain for months. We had the highest drought index in the state of Florida last week. Something about this location - Indian River County. The hurricanes gravitate here, too. :-( Our weather is often strange compared the rest of the state. We are in a vortex or something ... black hole maybe! LOL!
That's a beauty, Becky...and the strongest grower by far. Not much rain here, just drizzling basically all day. I yanked up two more MG's that were coming up in the grass from the vines from spring and stuck them in the ground by the fencing. I've done that a few times before and they have always made it.
Park Seed (.com) has a new MG for 2010 called "Split Personality." It has split petals, and is red (or deep rose) with a large white eye.
This purpurea only grows 4-6'; the blooms aren't as shredded, just slightly so, and appear to be asymetrical.
Twenty seeds for $1.95. (But they get you on S & H!)
Sorry, I don't know how to create a link to their page.
(Becky, happy belated birthday wishes! I'm not on DG that much when it's not the growing season...)
gardenpom - You know ... I should just go ahead and plant a couple of Flying Saucer seeds now and see what happens. I don't know if we are going to get a cold winter this year or not. Right now everything seems to be growing and some even blooming in my yard. I would imagine that the I. nils I had would still be showing off if the rust fungus hadn't gotten them. :-/ Been steady raining and drizzling here. Boy! Did we ever need some rain!
Boston - "Split Personality" has been around for several years. They may be new to Park Seeds though. I believe it is a strain of I. purpurea that like you said, has split petals (though not higes or feathered). That's a good price for 20 of them! Thanks for sharing that info with everyone!
Here's their link:

The photo makes them look like more of a reddish bloom, but I have grown them and they are a medium pink color.
Here is a photo of a Pink Flaked bloom.
Becky, So pretty with all that flaking
Dany, lovely Split Personality

Very Nice! I saw that offer. I thought I had seen those before somewhere. SP looks like a Rambler with splits.
I love the flaked ones.
Now that is a great idea.. that picture looks like my pink even.. ...
ohh I love that shot, Gardenpom..
Thanks Debra. The bees enjoy the blooms even half-opened.
