Beautiful Stormy

Pirl, I just planted that whole section along the fence this summer. The fence went up at the end of April. It's 250' of fence. There are 18 trellises with Climbing Roses, Clematis, Gelsemium Sempervirens Marguerita, Hydrangeas, Clematis, Loniceras, Morning Glories, Black Eyed Susans and Hyacinth Beans.

Wow! That will be glorious. Please take photos and let us see them!

Which clematises did you plant?

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Pirl, They were Franziska Maria, Multi Blue, Kiri Te Kanawa, Purpea Plena Elegans and 1 or 2 others.

The Hydrangeas are a Japanese Pink flowering Variety, Schizophragma hydrangeoides Roseum.

There are 5 or 6 different varieties and colors of Lonicera.

The roses are all different too, mostly heirloom own root ones.

The plants mostly all seemed to do well except towards the end of the season, a couple of the Clematis got wilt.

Clematis are not known for their end of season beauty. I just cut back any that look awful and they bounce back the next year.

That should be a spectacular blooming fence!

sounds beautiful

Thanks, Gals. This is a big experiment for me as I've never grown vines before. When I moved here 4 years ago, it took me 8 months to cut the 80' of wild vines out of 550' of tree line, so I have been vineaphobic. Planting, even buying them took some emotional jitters as I've been on vine patrol every day for 4 years!!! But I had to do something with that horrid white wall. When the fence went up, I was left with 2 to 3' of grass behind the existing plantings that there was no access to.

That area was all shaded and used to be very dark. Everything that was previously planted in that tree line was low growing woodland plants and some hosta, and few shrubs. Of course, most of them have WHITE blooms. So there will be a lot of plant moving going on along there next year. In order to get colorful plants to grow over there, I had to cut back 25' of the neighbor's Maple limbs that grew over my yard.

I can't wait to see it.

What color combos are you going for? Or a cottagey garden look with a mix? 250 feet of fence is fabulous!

Well, Polly, Your Iris all went along there! LOL

Blues, Magentas, and Corals with a few variations.

I just finished a big multiple Allium planting all along it. Even the daffs that are in there are all white, so I'm adding new ones and will move the whites after I mark them next spring.

For end of summer and fall, reds, blues, oranges and gold.

Well, I know what colors those are, for sure, LOL. The color combo sounds wonderful!

Alliums will be fantastic along that fence. I have trouble with them, due to our sandy soil, but I love them, darn it. Pirl grows beautiful ones.

Can't wait to see pictures in the spring, summer and fall.

Thanks, Polly. I'm sure it will take a few years to get it right. I find that my gardens have their own, very loud way of telling me what they want me to grow!!

Hi Polly
Your plants sure get around

Yes, they sure did, Jo Ann.
