I have one pot of those micros with your name on it Lynn ^_^
November Gessies
i grow tons of them, as they are my favorites, love them.
mrsbonnie
they are doing great. Maybe that's what I should try as I have decided I can't grow streps. Chirta, episcias and AV's do well, but the streps go limp and die. I love the little bloom . How long did it take to get them to this size from seed? Lou
Lou, they are were planted March 7--there are several plants to a pot, I think every seed germinated and I didn't have room to divide them. They have been blooming for at least 2 months. Since I found my notebook and looked that up-- I can also say that the mini sinn is from T. scaggs seed.
Wow! Is he only on e-bay or does he have another website?
Connie
He is on eBay-- but I am also a member of GHA (Gesneriad Hybridizers Association) Hybridizers make their seed available and members get so many packs of seed free (postage only) per year-- so not sure which source the seeds came from--
tommie
i also belong to that group, it's a great group to belong to as you get your choice of seed from the new hybrids & they are free. i believe it's 8.00 per year & its called crosswords.
bonnie
Good morning, Jan! That is so sweet! I want to see a bidding war on your seed on e-bay! Wouldn't that be great?!!!
The baby ones are so cute! Do you have to hydridize to join? I sure haven't gotten that far yet but hope to learn one day :) I joined the AVSA but I don't think they offer things like that. I am really not sure what they offer except the magazine LOL!
Nope-- you don't have to hybridize to join--the newsletter is informative & enjoyable (and delivered online)
WOW! Thank you so much! Gotta go find out where to sign up. Oh, Jan...if I do that I can share seed with you :) Starting out to be a great morning everyone!!!!
Oh, yeah, almost forgot. Jan, I will be able to add a few more a.v.s to the list for next spring. Have you seen Mellow Yellow? That is one to add. I am so excited to see ears coming up and the chance to have and offer instead of looking and drooling :)
Thanks Gran ^_^.
Lynn

Here is another part of the side ...
Work tomorrow.... See you all later.

Sue
Good morning ^_^
Susan, your yard looks beautiful! When your finished what to come do mine? LOL.Only kidding. You must be tired, that's alot of work. The tree's around here don't loss there leaves, there stay green all winter.I do have a dogwood that the leaves fall but I just rake them into the flower garden as mulch. That tree's leaves turn red. That's as much fall colors as I get.LOL.Glad your seeds are growing good.In know time at all those little babies will be flowering! How do you make 3 pictures together?? Don't tell me the help center on that program please.LOL.It took me over a hour to figure out how to put a frame on the picture ^_^
Hi Connie! I'm a meber to of the GHA,it's a great way to get different seeds.I'm not sure if you need to be a member of the gesneriad society to join gha?? Anyone know? I have a gallon bag full of seeds in the frig, when you get ready to grow seeds, please let me know. I have way to many to grow myself and don't know what to do with them.LOL.I couldn't find Mellow yellow? I love seeing the baby ears too!
You don't have to be a GSA member to join GHA-- I gave a membership as a bingo prize last winter.
My biggest problem with seed is I get no germination at all or I get a hundred plants. Its really hard just getting a few seeds out of the papers. I love sinn white sprite...I had 4 plants grow from the seed package and I planted it all. Well...at least I got 4. Now achimines seeds I have a whole cupful growing, so many I can't separate them! Tampa Bay beauty sinn, nothing. I got country snowflake X self and they are just starting to bloom, I can't wait for them to open! tish
Tish--fold an index card in half. Place your seed into the crease( if it all comes out you can then put some back). Hold this over the pot and tap gently to drop the seed. You will still get clumps of seed-- but this method really helps.
Hi All,
Well Jan, I could not put the pictures together yesterday as I forgot how to....LOLOL I use another program to do that... Hello Ladies.... How we all doing? I have not forgotten Connie that I said I would send you some babies... or maybe it was Gran? who knows LOLOL When my son leaves for his new home with his family and things calm down I will have enough to send to you all at least a couple.... Ok so Lilypad is Tish? I am awful with names but I hope to remember ...LOLOL
Sorry did not get pictures of flowers but back hurts and I am typing from bed.... Went to chiropractor tonight so still sore from that...
Ok ladies I chewed your ears enough... Have a good night and I will stop in after work tomorrow....
Hugs,
Sue
Morning,
Patience is key to seed growing Tish.I think the older the seed is the longer it takes to germinate(just my opinion) The gessie society says don't give up on seeds for 6 months.I have had seeds sprout after 4 months. It's a waiting game ^_^ Thanks for the info on the gha Gran.I had forgotten to get seeds from the last newletter so I picked them out yesterday and mailed the envelope in.
First flowering for X-Smithicodonia Heartlands Joy,love the color.
Very pretty Jan!!
OH! My Heartlands Joy is blooming too! so pretty. Looks much like Jans. Its my first "smithy" to ever bloom. I only had a couple but they always went dormant first. I bought 3 from Violet Barn and they were just rooted cuttings, no rhizomes, so I'm trying to keep them going until they root...the travel and change from their greenhouse conditions did not make them happy. I repotted is when I found they were just barely rooted and immediately put some leaves down to root and put them in deli container greenhouses. I think they will make it.
Thanks so much for the index card tip. I never thought of putting them in something else first....what a great idea. I will surely try that the next time.
I also read in another post about soaking the plant pot in deep water to separate babies to repot. I will keep that in mind when these achimenes get a little bigger.
Susan, there are not too many people as bad at names as me. A lifetime of being shy, I panic and block out names as quickly as I meet people...its a real problem. We have a new member named tish also!
tish
I think we have three ??
Ok just don't upset with tme if I call one of you the wrong name ok??? You can ask Jan and Lynn my brain goes out to lunch with out me...LOL
Hugs,
Sue
Very pretty flower Jan,, great growing...
Ok, remember last year when I was excited because I found a great deal on shelves at Costco? Since we moved into an apartment back in March, I had to be creative with my shelves. DH said I could put them in our bedroom. We just didn't have the space to keep all the shelves intact . . . so, here in the first pic, is the top 2 shelves. We have the tv on the top shelf, and 2 growing areas underneath.
The bottom area is mainly my baby streps on the far side, then 2 trays with rooting streps and AV's. The top area is my bigger streps, some Tiny Wood Trails that I wish lI had been able to list before it got too cold, and misc. domed plants. Since I don't have space here to have separate quarantine areas, I bought domes to keep plants separate from others. These domes are some of the plants I bought at the Lone Star convention, others were gotten from other places.
This other part of the shelves are . . . the top shelf with the small light is where I put plants that have sold or traded and are awaiting shipping. The trailer that's there now will eventually make it back down to a 'normal' shelf. The bottom shelf is where I have another tray of rooting AV leaves and/or crown cuttings . . . the trailers I have growing are on the middle tray, and the green tray has baby plantlets growing in spagnum moss (I'm doing an experiment). The middle area are the plants that I will be concentrating on growing for the club show/sale in April/May.
looks good to me, looks like a good plan, good growing.
mrsbonnie
Looks great to me.My plant room is always a mess LOL.
wow Nicole, your shelves look great.Mine always a mess too ^_^
I've been catching up on all the posts since the beginning of the month. The pics are beautiful. I'm especially ingrigued by the mini sinns. I joined the Gesneriad Soc and received free seeds. I sowed them on Oct 6th and so far, nothing. I was hoping to see something by now.
If anyone has extra seed to spare of mini sinns, please dmail me. I would love to try them. It seems I can only grow violets and chirita. I love the streps, and gessiegail had sent me over a dozen leaves. None has survived. I kept two strep leave from RR and will try again. I don't know what my problem is. I either under-water or over-water. Maybe this time I'll get it right.
So if anyone has mini sins seeds, please let me know.
Eileen
My Ges Socitey seeds did nothing either. I left them for about a year in a deli container. Then I started sticking cuttings in there too, so if something sprouts I'll be sure to see it...better than just tossing it all out. I would send you some sinn seeds but so far the ones I have left haven't sprouted yet. I don't have any luck with streps either. Same as you, either too wet or too dry...can't find a happy medium. I have three managed to survive and I started a couple from a leaf that are still in the deli-container cause as soon as I take them out they are going to bite the dust just like all the others...I'm still surprised they actually rooted before they rotted! Love the blooms so much but they just won't grow for me. So many people have no trouble growing them at all!
tish
I just ordered seeds from the society and I hope they grow! When I joined they sent me the mixed pack and they did germinate but then they died. Hopefully I will have better luck with this next batch.
Pat M.
I have had good luck with society seeds for the most part-- my freebie mixed pack did nothing--but I started the first ones on a heat cable along with begonias-- and think I cooked them all--now I just have the heat from the flourescent fixtures on the shelf below and that seems to be perfect.
Tommie
Tommie,
Did you cover them with plastic or a dome?
Pat M.
Yes-- I use a clear dome and once they are up and growing good, wean them out gradually. I had some that didn't like the light intensity-- so grouped them together and covered that end of the dome with a piece of computer paper--seemd to work out fine. Once they were "weaned' i put those at then end of the tubes.
Tommie
Thanks Tommie!
I think maybe I put them under too much light. I appreciate the info
