Margaret, this 40D is great. I love it. All the pics I took at Cooper's Creek Park were taken with it while I was sitting in my car.
The ones of the GB Heron were snapped from about 25 ft away, maybe more (the bunch of Canada Geese in the flooded area was my most distant shot (I wish I had thought to take my range finder.). I was using a Canon IS USM 70-300mm lens with a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter between it and the 40D.
I just wish it had been sunny. It was overcast and threatening rain.

That is a wild shot tigerlily
Nice shots Nanny, Hack and Tiger!
tiger - took me a while to understand what I as looking at with that downy. how wild.
nanny - great action shots. love seeing how they come in to land
Oh, I'm just loving all of these beautiful bird pictures! Isn't nature amazing!
I was out in the yard this morning and got a not so great shot of a Northern Cardinal in the Senna tree.
Cardinals and Blue Jays are very common backyard birds here but they seem to be very camera shy and fly into the trees as soon as they see me, LOL. I have not gotten a decent picture of one of them yet, but I think you can just see this beautiful red bird peeking out of the tree.
Nanny, great photos!! That little wp sure is as brave as the jay!
Plantlady, your photo is just beautiful too! That cardinal really stands out well!
Nice shots everyone!!
I'm watching a number of Robins eating the berries off my holly bush.
Love all the pics on the new thread and thanks for starting it Pelle, love the Falcon and Kingfisher.
It is a beautiful day in the Ozarks with lots of sunshine. I ventured to my favorite brush pile today and was able to get several shots unfortunately my notebook mouse only half works and the wireless won't work at all even though I just tried a brand new one. I hope my computer doesn't blow a gasket before I can share some of my pictures.
In the meantime I can enjoy all the beautiful ones here!
Happy Halloween (lol...I just typed Halloweed)...everyone!!
Nanny, that series is wonderful.
Lin, what a wonderful combination of colours.
duc, I really like the way you composed the snap of the Oak Titmouse. real nice.
nanny, sure looks like you corned the market on Blue Jays.
p-ladylin, nice shot of the cardinal. It is one of the kinds of birds I still see a lot of here in Columbus, GA
Burd, I've only seen my White-breasted Nuthatch, once. Yours sure looks nice.
My mesh Black Oil Sunflower seed feeder was a draw today. here's a mama Cardinal and a Carolina Chickadee feeding, with a male House Finch coming in for a landing.

Nice ones Burd and Hack!
Burd, love the Juncos and the Nuthatch. My one Junco just won't sit still for a picture. I'll be glad when more of them arrive.
Hack, great variety of birds at your feeder! Love the Tufted!
I finally was able to catch up to one of my Northern Flickers. Too bad it was so far away by the time the camera clicked!

Great variety of birds Nanny. The Starlings here aren't causing any problems. They're currently enjoying all the ripe fruit on the neighbors trees.
I enjoyed the variety duc and Nanny.

Duc, Love the Titmouse surrounded by berries!
Nice Eastern Phoebe and Junco nanny!
Nice one PL!
Thanks, LOL ... I am the world's worst photographer but every once in awhile I get a decent picture.
The Sandhill Cranes let me get so close ... I stopped when I got within a foot or two because they are so large and I didn't want to encroach too much into their space and take a chance on getting snapped at but they sure didn't seem frightened by my presence at all. The location was at a friends home on the river. We see them all the time when we visit our friends at their townhouse complex. There's a sand/shell pathway that meanders around through the complex and along a lake and the river. These two would walk a little ways, stop and preen a bit, then walk a little farther and stop and preen some more. One walked up to someone's window and stood there for the longest time looking at it's reflection in the window!
This one I thought was really funny looking ... it had it's neck stretched around preening it's back, and looks to be posing for the camera.
Funny pic!
