Thanks to everyone for the wonderful shots in the last thread! If you would like a look back here is the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1050927/
This shot of a Peregrine Falcon was taken in September at the Brigantine National Wildlife Reserve. We were lucky to get a couple of shots as he was up on an observation tower about to eat some freshly caught lunch. He finally became too nervous with us around and another approaching car and flew off.
DAILY PICS VOL. 254
Cool!
Nice shots of the Peregrine Falcon and Belted Kingfisher, pelle. I particularly like the falcon.
I went to Bombay Hook, Ocean City area and Blackwater Wildlife Refuge last weekend. It was somewhat disappointing. Lots of Snow Geese (10,000 est.) off in the distance at Bombay Hook. I did see the American Avocets again along with a few other shorebirds. The only birds I saw at Ocean city were Gulls and one Ruddy Turnstone. We saw a few Bald Eagles at Blackwater, a flock of Northern Pintails and out of camera range, I did see a Hudsonian Godwit. The eagles look like they are pairing up already.
Here is a photo of the Snow Geese against the blue sky and brown vegetation.
Nice pics guys!
Jen, I like your Sharp-shinned Hawk!
Nice Blue Jays nanny!
Linth, Beautiful scene!
That's one very impressive start to the new thread, Pelle.
Nanny, I've been enjoying some live footage of Blue Jays taking peanuts. They are fabulous birds. I love the sound they make.
Beautiful hawk, flowerjen.
What a fabulous photo, Linth.
I'm continuing to practice flight shots whenever the opportunity arises. Yesterday at the Osprey nest I got one dodgy and one less dodgy photo of a Rainbow Bee-eater in flight. This is the less dodgy one. Caught with wings momentarily folded, making it look like a colourful missile.
Those are some cool pics, Margaret
Pelletory, was that down the shore?
Hi Jen, Yes it was at Brigantine National Wildlife Reserve (in September).
Margaret, The Bee-eater is gorgeous and you did a great job w/ the flight shots! It is so much harder to get a single smaller bird in flight.
Lily, Nice job on the Heron!
Speaking of the Canada Goose, do you know they are Not named after the country but after a man named John Canada? Also depending on who you talk to there are up to 11 species of Canada Geese.
That's interesting about the Canada Geese, Pelle. I always wondered why they weren't called Canadian Geese. Now I know.
Thanks for the comment on the Bee-eater.
Pelle those P. falcons are one of my favourates....they are just stunning.
11 species? wow!
Great start everyone.
Speaking of the Canada Goose, do you know they are Not named after the country but after a man named John Canada?
Sorry, that's a myth; Canada Goose is named after the country. Nothing unusual in its being 'Canada Goose' rather than 'Canadian Goose', that's a common form of name construction in birds, plants, etc. - Norway Spruce, Norway Maple, Turkey Oak, Kentucky Warbler, Canada Warbler, California Gull, etc., etc.
Resin
Ha, I was waiting for you Resin. Is it absolutely sure it is a myth?
Pelle, what a spectacular start of a new thread. Love the falcon and that Kingfisher is amazing!! I've only seen our falcons as they've flown by me and would love to see one sitting still.
Beautiful photos Linth!
Margaret, love those Bee-eaters.
Flowerjen, great shot!
Lily, another great shot! Those herons aren't easy to follow.
Here's a pair of Bald Eagles playing in the wind thermals.
Oh I love the Oak Titmouse shot duc; so sweet! The others are great too!
Is it absolutely sure it is a myth?
Yep, checked in the OED
resin
yep.
Thanks, iris, I thought so.
